| Senator Robert Menendez was never a distinguished choice for chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the position he ascended to this month by virtue of seniority. Concerns about that quality gap have sharply escalated amid new disclosures about Mr. Menendez’s use of his position to advance the financial interests of a friend and big donor. Instead of trying to protect Mr. Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, needs to remove his gavel, at least pending credible resolution by the Senate Ethics Committee of the swirling accusations of misconduct.

Nice white wash by the times. I read on and on looking for the punch line,about charges that menendez is a pediphile. Nothing to see here but some ethics charges that can be obfuscated and diffused with a prolonged investigation.

And that first paragraph tells us what the NYT really thinks of Menendez:

For those who are shocked about the NYT throwing a fellow democrat under the bus, consider this:
1. Editorial published on a Saturday
2. Attacking Menendez is a win-win for the Times. They don´t lose any points with the left because everyone is criticizing Menendez already and they have new leverage against the right accusing them of only going after republicans.

The NYTs disgustingly pretends that they reported, or credits the WaPo as reporting, when in fact, they reported nothing, but copied the work of others without accreditation, when the truth became apparent. Plagiarism is job one at the NYTs.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) appeared on CNN’s The Situation Room on Tuesday evening where he was asked to respond to former Vice President Dick Cheney who told Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace that the junior Kentucky senator was wrong when he criticized the NSA’s surveillance programs. Paul tore into the Bush administration’s role in the establishment of the post-9/11 security regime, noting that he thinks it is possible to catch terrorists using methods consistent with the Constitution. Cheney told the Fox News Sunday host that Paul was incorrect in his criticisms of the NSA’s communications monitoring programs.

It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
