| On a Reddit AMA (Ask me anything) yesterday, former CBS broadcaster Dan Rather (Now with AXS-TV) was understandably asked a question about ‘Rathergate’ – the story on George W. Bush’s service in the Air National Guard that used forged documents in the report. Rather responded brusquely: Number 1 – the facts of case are not in dispute. Number 2 – no one had ever established that the documents were forged (those who attack them argued that we didn’t do enough to demonstrate that they were not forged) The whole documents argument

Rather can´t let go of this. The way he looks at it the forged docs have no meaning because he knows Bush skipped out on NG duty.
When Kerry got back from Vietnam he was still an active duty reservist who never showed up for camp but I´m sure that doesn´t bother Rather one bit.
Bush was probably foolish when he was younger, like most people are but he put all that behind him when he quit drinking and became a practicing Christian.. Of course there´s no such thing as redemption for a conservative but there is for an animal abuser like Micheal Vick.

Baloney. Within 48 hrs. the guy at Little Green Onions produced the "Throbbing Memo", which showed that the Bush Texas Air National document purporting to be from c. 1972 was actually typed using a Microsoft Word program. The bogus document had the same letter justification, pixel for pixel. When overlayed and "throbbed" the TANG document and the newly typed Microsoft Word copy were identical.

Within hardly more than a day or two after the CBS documents were posted on the blog Little Green Footballs, responding experts, including topographers, font experts and a retired AF officer who, for almost 30 years, had been in charge of how AF documents were to be written, had decimated Rather´s "evidence." And, soon after, when CBS was forced to acknowledge from whom it had gotten these documents, it turned out to be -- surprise, surprise -- a Texan with a long history of scurrilous attacks on the Bush family. In his recent denial, Rather has once again proven the old adage: Being a lefty means never having to say you´re sorry.

BTW, #4. Not sure Kerry had any obligation to report to a Reserve meeting. Technically, every enlistment is for 6 years and one is considered active reserve until that time period ends. Let´s just stick with him being an exploitive, lying sack of s..t.

Times New Roman. It is extremely unlikely that any Air National Guard office in 1972 had a typewriter with that typeface. But because he so wanted it to be true, Rather was taken in by it. Which just shows what a hateful old coot he is.

It does not matter what Bush did or did not do. This was a case of the MSM trying to change the dynamics of the presidential election. For golly sakes, Clinton led protests against the USA, Gore was a complete phony, Kerry was a Coward that shopped around for purple hearts and only served about 11 weeks in Nam. Obama is a smoker, toker and dealer. He also hates the military and never served. None of this mattered to the MSM.

Good article. The expert testimony is a well deserved ´Thwap´ and can´t be delivered often enough.
Especially delicious is the fact (not in the article) that the only reason the forgery was exposed was Bush´s transparency. He issued standing orders in the WH that any military docs would be immediately posted on his WH web site. When the ´TANG Docs´ were submitted to the WH, they were immediately available to all... including experts like this. Funny how well that worked.

a brief review of the "docuMENTS" that led to Rather´s firing from CBS news.
Mary Mapes (Dan Rather´s producer at CBS news) obtained these "documents" from Bill Burkett (more about him next). Ms Mapes then offered these "documents" to the John Kerry Presidential Campaign, along with writing Rather´s report on them.
Bill Burkett has admitted to lying about the origin of the memos eventually claiming that he received the Killian documents from a woman calling herself "Lucy Ramirez." Burket is a nut job with a on-line rant published about how evil Bush was.
Lucy Ramirez has never been seen or heard from (if she ever existed). Burket purported received a phone call from her (why she called him, who knows) where she offered him the Killian documents. The documents were either delivered by a unnamed middle ma, or delivered by Ramirez in a supermarket parking lot. In order to protect Ramirez from being traced as the source of the memos through DNA on the documents, Burkett then burned the original documents after making copies of them, according to Burkett.
You cannot make this stuff up...
Rather is senile. Does anyone under the age of 50 even know who he is anymore?

A liberal keeps repeating the lie, even in the face of facts. They know people will forget the facts, IF they keep repeating the lie. Someone needs to simply call him a liar to his face, but unfortunately ´liar´ doesn´t have the sting it used to.

OVER the last decade, the United States has become a less violent country in every way save one. As Americans commit fewer and fewer crimes against other people’s lives and property, they have become more likely to inflict fatal violence on themselves. In the 1990s, the suicide rate dipped with the crime rate. But since 2000, it has risen, and jumped particularly sharply among the middle-aged. The suicide rate for Americans 35 to 54 increased nearly 30 percent between 1999 and 2010; for men in their 50s, it rose nearly 50 percent. More Americans now die of suicide

In the days after the Benhazi attack, the State Department scurried to cover up its failure to heed warnings of such attacks while the White House scurried to cover up the fact that that attacks were the work of al Qaeda-linked terrorists of the sort President Obama supposedly had largely vanquished. The final Benghazi “talking points” and Susan Rice’s talk show appearances represent the product of this scurrying. To help advance the narrative that the Benghazi attacks were spontaneous, and thus (a) not to have been anticipated and (b) not linked to al Qaeda,

TORONTO - Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, a target of criticism for his often unconventional conduct, on Friday denied media allegations that he had been caught on video smoking crack cocaine. "Absolutely not true," Ford told reporters gathered outside his west Toronto house, before driving off in his SUV. Reporters for the Toronto Star and Gawker Media said late on Thursday they had watched a cellphone video that appears to show Ford smoking crack, although both news outlets said they had declined to pay the $100,000 price asked by the tipsters,

SAN DIEGO — In the ocean off Coronado, a Navy team has discovered a relic worthy of display in a military museum: a torpedo of the kind deployed in the late 19th century, considered a technological marvel in its day. But don´t look for the primary discoverers to get a promotion or an invitation to meet the admirals at the Pentagon - although they might get an extra fish for dinner or maybe a pat on the snout. The so-called Howell torpedo was discovered by bottlenose dolphins being trained by the Navy to find undersea objects, including mines,

It must be George W. Bush’s fault. Everything else is. The moonbats’ verdict is in. Barack Obama couldn’t possibly have done all those terrible things the vast right-wing conspiracy is accusing him of. And they’re not scandals, either. Obama’s troubles are merely “controversies” or, to use Dear Leader’s own phrase, a sideshow. Scandals only happen to Republicans, just like Deval Patrick didn’t go on a junket to Ireland. It was a “trade mission.” Democrats never make mistakes either — “mistakes were made,” in the passive voice.

Jay Carney insists Benghazi, Libya, is not a scandal, but then he doesn’t admit to having misled the media about the origin of the attacks. The administration now tells CBS News, “We’re portrayed by Republicans as either being lying or idiots. It’s actually closer to us being idiots.” It would be nice if the source specified what part(s) of the administration were idiotic and why it’s “closer” but not all attributable to incompetence. The problem with claiming incompetence is two-fold. First, it raises the question as to where the president was on Sept. 11, 2012,

The standard police warning about con men applies to politicians, as well: When they tell you something that sounds too good to be true, it usually is. So it goes with the White House claim that it knew nothing — nothing! — about the targeting of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service. Of course the White House knew. And we already have the first piece of evidence. The Friday hearing on what amounted to political profiling of anti-Obama groups took a huge step toward demolishing White House efforts to distance itself from the scandal. The agency’s inspector general testified

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part

The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.

A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
