| The United States is weighing its next steps to try to end the conflict in Syria, new Secretary of State John Kerry says, adding there has been "too much killing" in the 22-month war. His comments on Friday came amid hints of deep divisions in President Barack Obama´s cabinet over US policy in Syria, where some 60,000 people have died as opposition rebels battle to oust President Bashar al-Assad. It was revealed this week that the White House had rejected secret plans drawn up last summer by Kerry´s predecessor, Hillary Clinton, and former CIA chief, General David Petraeus, to arm

Comments: Later in the article, it clearly says that we have given the largest amount of "aid" [$US365 million] to the opposition and refugees without explaining how and who specially it was doled out to. This sounds like we are siding with the Free Syrian Army, which claims only to want to oust Assad. So, who do they think will fill the political vacuum if they succeed if not Al Qaeda, who´s also in the fight?
PIAPS has left a "world of hurt" for her predecessor, in this case Kerry. Herself is a one-woman wrecking ball in politics and diplomacy.

Her successor is a cowardly incompetent weasel! It isn´t going to get any better since the world knows what a weak kneed sissy he is. He has already been challenged by Iran and that is just the beginning!

kerry´s answer to the public who is asking what he intends to do! The Syrian Citizens are solving their own problem -- with assistance from "whoever" -- assad will fall soon, and the Syrian people will be free to plan their own future! Which will not include helping Iran even one bit! Hands off, State Dept! Let the Citizens do it! They have all the right motivations!

There is no next step and it would be nice if the idiots that be would stop pretending there is. All sides are to blame for the creation of this quagmire.
If we want to do something we should try to find a way to help the Christians safely leave the country.

I don´t believe any of this crap. For one thing,Hillary doesn´t have sense enough to contrive a game plan on anything but 2016.
The truth is these people started to abominable arab spring, then lost control over it when it spread to Syria. Assad saw what happened in Egypt and Libya and decided to stand up against it.
How do we know Obama put a stop to the plan,if there was one to begin with. Obama is not a decision maker in his own administration and some special interest made it for him.My guess is Iran told him to stay out and that´s what he did.
Anybody that thinks Kerry has a magical plan there is an idiot also.Liberals aren´t solution oriented people, they´re cover up artists.

Heeere comes Lurch, the second wrecking ball. His solution will be to give Syria billions of taxpayer dollars to play nice, which would be a total waste of dollars.

Washington - Across-the-board budget cuts have created Furlough Friday in Washington and elsewhere, as the one-day closing of four federal agencies forced an unpaid day off for 115,000 workers. Employees at the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Internal Revenue Service and the Office of Management and Budget stayed home on Friday. The furlough affects about 5 percent of the federal workforce, according to Cory Bythrow, communications director at the National Federation of Federal Employees, a union representing government workers.

The rugged landscape created by volcanic eruptions and tectonic plate shifts in east and south Africa millions of years ago may be what prompted our human ancestors to start walking on two legs, a study said Friday. The research published in the journal Antiquity challenges the commonly-held theory that early hominins (members of the broad human family) were forced onto two feet on the ground because climate change reduced the number of trees they lived in. (Snip) "Our research shows that bipedalism may have developed as a response to the terrain, rather than a response to climatically-driven

Annapolis, Md. - President Obama used a commencement speech before Naval Academy graduates on Friday to urge them to follow an “inner compass” and to warn that rising numbers of sexual assaults in the military threatened to erode America’s faith in the armed forces. The president praised the military as the nation’s “most trusted institution,” but took note of the recent cases in which service members have been charged with sexual assault. He said those people “threaten the trust and discipline which makes our military strong.” “We need your honor, that inner compass that guides

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued its 2013 Atlantic hurricane outlook on Thursday, with a warning that the United States could be hit by up to six major hurricanes this year. The seasonal average is three. Oceanic and atmospheric conditions in the Atlantic basin are expected to create stronger and more hurricanes, setting the stage for an “above normal and extremely active” season, said Gerry Bell, lead seasonal hurricane forecaster for NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, who explained the underlying reasons in a NOAA video.

Washington - President Obama said Thursday he was troubled by the possibility that leak investigations may "chill" investigative journalism and said he had asked Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. to review Justice Department guidelines for going after reporters or their records. "Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs. Our focus must be on those who break the law," Obama said, referring to those who leak secret information. The statement seemed to mark a departure for the president, who has been particularly determined to investigate those in his administration who leak national

Niamey, Niger - Suicide bombers in Niger detonated two car bombs simultaneously, one inside a military camp in the city of Agadez and another in the remote town of Arlit at a French-operated uranium mine, killing 26 people and injuring 30, according to officials in Niger and France. (Snip) The timing of the attacks, which occurred at the same moment more than 160 kilometers (100 miles) apart, and the fact that the bombers were able to penetrate both a well-guarded military installation and a sensitive, foreign-operated uranium mine, highlight the growing reach and sophistication of the Islamic

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
