| All vehicles have been banned from Bay State roads as of 4 p.m. today and a state of emergency has been declared as a mammoth blizzard, projected to dump up to 3 feet of snow, slams the region. Gov. Deval Patrick issued his executive order banning vehicle traffic — with the exception of public safety and emergency workers — early this afternoon and said it will remain the law until he rescinds it. Breaking the ban carries a penalty of up to one year in jail or a fine, an aide to the governor said. Patrick added the state

I am starting to think this whole thing is a test to see what the government can get away with in terms of controlling the population and their movements. Maybe they want to build a database of those who don´t obey the command so they can track you. Since there will be few cars on the road who don´t obey, it will be easy to collect the info for future monitoring. BBIWY.

Dukakis pulled the same stunt during the Blizzard of ´78, and it got him kicked out of office. This is totally unenforceable; there will be people trying to get home from work at that point. In any case, everyone except idiots knows enough not to be out on the roads.
It´s not that bad in my neck of the woods at this moment.About an inch and a half of snow has fallen, which is a nothingburger.

During the blizzard of ´96 Guiliani did much the same thing. The only vehicles allowed were snow plows, emergency vehicles and people with four-wheel drive vehicles transporting emergency and medical personnel. I worked the midnight to 8 shift, and was at work during the beginning of the storm. We walked home down Park Avenue, the middle of the street. Some walked, some skied. The second day (snow on Sunday, snow and plowing Monday.) Tuesday or Wednesday every thing was back to normal. It´s a good idea.

NPR´s Ari Shapiro posted an interesting Tweet on May 21. He discovered that a cadre of well-known lefty columnists and journalists visited the White House together, three of whom he mentioned by name. Shapiro reported that Jonathan Capehart and Ezra Klein of the Washington Post, and Josh Marshall of the left-wing website TalkingPointsMemo.com were attending a meeting together at the White House. [Tweet] Coffee, Carney, or perhaps some "guidance"? Naturally the tongues on Twitter wagged. Instapundit wondered, for instance, if the "Journ-O-List cavalry" had been called out to solve Obama´s media problem.

On May 14, the House Ways and Means Committee demanded the IRS turn over documents and answer questions related to the targeting of conservative groups. The letter was signed by the Chairman David Camp and ranking member Sander Levin of the Committee. The deadline for compliance was May 21. WASHINGTON — The Army announced Tuesday that it has suspended the top general at Fort Jackson in South Carolina over allegations of assault and adultery, the latest in a string of sex scandals to rock the military. It was not clear whom Brig. Gen. Bryan Roberts struck or with whom he was involved. Fort Jackson conducts basic training for 60% of the Army´s incoming women recruits. (Snip) According to his Army biography, Roberts is a 29-year veteran. Before assuming command in April 2012, he served in Iraq as head of a unit training Iraqi soldiers.

White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.
