Blizzards are nothing new. Spare me the "historic" business.

Man o man, everyone in that area get ready, food, water, medicine, good books. That monster looks to big to outrun at this point. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

#1, Blizzards are nothing new, thats true but that does not make them harmless. As someone sitting smack dead in the middle of the worst of it I am bracing for 30" of snow and 40 to 50 MPH sustained winds.

While many like to recall 5 and 6 foot snowfalls where they had to still go to school and no one missed work, I respectfully opine, you are full of it. This blizzard is as big if not bigger than the one in 1978 that left thousands stranded, miles of abandoned cars on the interstates and knocked out power for weeks to some.

Yes, blizzards happen, about once every decade. We who live here understand the whole just stay home for a couple days thing. We have bread and water and a good book and lots of candles and flashlights. Its one thing to live with this weather but the minute you stop respecting the power of such events you put yourself and lots of others in mortal peril.

While end of the world reporting is getting a little monotonous losing sight of just how dangerous this kind of event is dangerous.

Now, how can we blame this on Global Warming, Bush, Limbaugh, and Bitter Clingers.........

Spent seven winters in Rochester NY. This was routine. People just went about their business.

#3. I grew up in New England. My point was about language in the media. As in:

better to say "blizzard conditions on Friday night and Saturday...be sure to have food and batteries, and stay home."

instead of "OMG, Historic, Superstorm, Possible End of the World as we Know IT!"

I was going to make a comment about blue states, but I won´t.

If this happened in flyover country we´d hear only a footnote about if. Gotta love the hysterical media when it affects them.

I hope the Yankees find themselves better prepared for this weather event than they were for Hurricane Sandy. I expect the South will once again have to come to their aid and rescue in man hours and tax dollars.

Don´t worry about your tax dollars being ill-spent in Massachusetts, #9. This state is one of the top ten sources of revenue for the federal government, and gets back 79 cents for every dollar it sends to Washington. As for the power crews and other emergency services, we send them where they´re needed, including to Texas during the terrible drought and wildfires. Our crews plowed out Virginia and DC during their blizzard a few years ago.

No one hear is panicking. No one here is asking for help. No one here is responsible for the media hysteria. But thanks so much for your good wishes.

The media hype this (and other stories) simply for viewers and readers. Now the Weather Channel is naming storms to ramp up the interest. Not to say this thing isn´t dangerous so use common sense.

The lofo´s of course won´t use common sense and I am sure we will see some stories about the poor and homeless dying in the streets.

I´m in NYC. It´s 31 degrees, wind 3 mph. It´s not snowing now ... looks like a light rain. I´m up on the 10th Floor - ground looks like it may be slushy.

So far, so good.

#12, right now I am in Florida, and it´s warm and sunny. I ain´t going back up north until that snow all melts!

For the next 6 months the LSM will lead their news with this storm and how it is the fault of the Republicians that every thing in the area isn´t back to normal.

The newest media fetish is naming snowstorms. How stupid is that? Gives them something to fret about.
