| Former President George H.W. Bush is aged and ailing. So it is precisely now that we need to voice our appreciation for him -- one of America´s greatest one-term presidents, along with James K. Polk. Polk practically doubled the size of the continental United States between 1845 and 1849, becoming the individual embodiment of Manifest Destiny.

Yeah, that war against Iraq was such a great idea. And that decision to go along with higher taxes. What an idiot.

The disconnect between informative articles posted today on this website is very disconcerting. After reading some of that must read article by CFP, then I see this one about the guy some people could call the granddaddy of the one worlders crowd, I feel a bit like I am in the twilight zone today.

George Herbert Walker Bush: September 11, 1990: “Out of these troubled times, our objective—a new world order—can emerge. Today, that new world is struggling to be born, a world quite different from the one we have known.”
How´s this New World Order looking now George?
Coincidence this speech to the UN was on 9/11,

#3 -- Actually, if you look at the world from the point of that speech until now...there is a new world order and at a micro-level it´s not all bad. There´s a very large number of people who have been lifted out of poverty since the early 1990s.

Despite his flawed policies, GHWB is above all a gentleman. When the Berlin Wall fell, he didn´t spike the football, unlike our present White House occupant.

He´s largely responsible for the advancement of the global warming scam which remains the greatest fraud against humanity in history. He signed into law a Global Change Act in 1990 that mandated US taxpayers fix the climate all over the world, give money to everyone, and he even cited importance of CO2 reduction. About an inch of type that triggered trillions in profits for some. The EPA relies on his Clean Air Act amendments to justify depravity. Which might not be so bad except we have a one party system today.

Thank you for posting. I have a lot of admiration for George H.W. Bush, but BDS has blinded too many to his character, his impressive resume´ and his selfless dedication to service to his country.

Daddy Bush is a bozo! His hissy fit directed at the NRA´s Wayne Lapierre after he correctly labeled the ATF a bunch of "jack booted thugs" in response to Janet Reno and Hillary Clinton´s publicity stunt at Waco was sickening.

Wonder if you look at things now Bush 41 and feel like you´ve accomplished what you set out to do?

As a former Army Ranger and combat infantry veteran of Viet Nam, I have to admire George H.W. Bush for his service in WWII.
BUT - that does not erase his failures as President, which are numerous and have been devastating to our Union.
So much promise, so utter the failure.

Predictable puff piece from Kaplan, an earnest water carrier for the Bushes. As for China, Bush was a bystander to whom they never paid any attention. Two factors led to the reunification of Germany and freedom in Eastern Europe. #1)The economic collapse of Russia, for which Ronald Reagan was the mover and shaker and #2)The resolve of the Germans to seize the moment and their destiny. Bush had nothing to do w/either. Kaplan embarrasses himself w/this malarkey.

The most appropriate image of the present-day Middle East is the medieval map, which, in the words of the late historian Albert Hourani, depicts an age when "frontiers were not clearly and precisely delimited" and the influence of a regime was not uniform "within a fixed and generally recognized area," but, rather, grew weaker with distance as it radiated outward from an urban core. Legal borders, where the power of one state suddenly ended and that of another suddenly began, were rare. And thus, Hourani was not the only scholar to point this out.

Today, in an age that often seems of pragmatism and managerial-ism in politics, if there is a way not just to honor the late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher´s memory but to continue her legacy it should be to encourage and praise those rare individuals who are willing to buck such trends. In Canada recently, I have had an opportunity to reflect on the perhaps surprising fact (also surprising to many Canadians) that in recent years Canada has shown itself to be a home to convictions which ennoble the present and can stand proud before history. The Harper government's moral clarity on a number of issues

THE Korean Peninsula is closer to military conflict than at any time since 1994. Beyond his wild rhetoric threatening nuclear war, the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un, has taken two of the most extreme actions open to him. He has decided to re-start his five megawatt nuclear reactor at Yongbyon. And he has banned South Koreans from entering the joint industrial zone in Kaesong which is responsible for much of the hard currency Pyongyang gets.Meanwhile, he is provoking tough reactions in Washington and Seoul. US Secretary of State John Kerry declared the US will not accept a nuclear-armed North Korea.

More than 1,000 Muslims from across Europe are currently active as Islamic jihadists, or holy warriors, in Syria, which has replaced Afghanistan, Pakistan and Somalia as the main destination for militant Islamists seeking to obtain immediate combat experience with little or no official scrutiny. As the number of European jihadists in Syria grows, European officials are beginning to express concerns about the threat these "enemies within" will pose when they return to Europe. In Britain, for example, Foreign Secretary William Hague recently said, "Syria is now the number one destination

The famed Prussian strategist Carl von Clausewitz observed that war is the continuation of politics by other means. He could just as easily have referred to arms sales. The global arms trade is brisk. For the sellers, it´s a means to curry favor with strategic partners and to fatten the bottom lines of domestic arms merchants. For the buyers, it provides access to top-shelf technology that´s unobtainable through domestic production. These are the countries leading the pack.

As a connoisseur of revolutionary processes, Leon Trotsky asserted that a revolution seems impossible until it becomes inevitable. As a matter of fact, this is what happened in Venezuela in 1998, when Hugo Chávez assumed power after winning a presidential election.Until then, Venezuela was living in what could be called a "soft democracy." People used to go periodically to the ballots, choosing largely between the two leading, traditional parties.

While President Obama came to office promising to restore the world´s image of America, the polling firm Gallup has found a steady decline in the world´s view of American leadership. Today, America´s median approval stands at 41 percent, down from 49 percent during President Obama´s first year in office. Nonetheless, global views on U.S. leadership have rebounded since 2008, and several countries in particular have expressed strong approval for U.S. leadership, according to Gallup. These are the five most pro-American countries.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: You are the mantle of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington and Ralph Bunche and Langston Hughes and George Washington Carver and Ralph Abernathy and Thurgood Marshall and, yes, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These men were many things to many people and they knew full well the role that racism played in their life. But when it came to their own accomplishments and sense of purpose, they had no time for excuses. Every one of you has a grandma or an uncle or a parent whose told you at some point in life

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

"Can you see in your mind´s eye a way that this might not have been political, that this was a misguided stupid way to sort, but that they didn´t intend it to be some kind of political attempt to harass the Tea Party?" So actually asked CNN´s Candy Crowley of her guest Sen. There will be lots more hearings coming up this week

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:
