Cranks, Haters, Bigots No
Longer Welcome in the GOP

Atlantic Wire, by Elspeth Reeve

Fox News and the Republican Party, while still technically distinct entities, are moving to purge figures who are so controversial they´re damaging the conservative brand, Politico´s Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen report. An anonymous GOP strategist told Politico there is a deliberate effort to "marginalize the cranks, haters and bigots — there’s a lot of underbrush that has to be cleaned out." The strategist requested anonymity because the crank marginalization is not yet complete and he or she doesn´t want to inflame the cranks. New York´s Jonathan

Comments:
What an outrageous headline. That would make you assume that "cranks, haters and bigots" were previously welcomed in the GOP. These were all promoted and manipulated to look that way by the corrupt media. I look forward to the day when they write an article about all the haters we hear from every single day in the Democrat party. s/o

If the cranks, haters, and bigots were expelled from the ´Rat Party, it would collapse.

There is a recognizable handful on this board who would agree with that headline, all the while bragging about their big tent approach and commitment to limited government.

The top down, one size fits all, as sized by entrenched career republican and democrat third tier political hacks is what Rove and his supporters are promoting. Pretty steep learning curve with his followers.

Rockfeller wingers are the new paleorepublicans.

What a ridiculous article. "...marginalize the cranks, haters and bigots..." Is this language a Conservative would use? Of course not. It´s liberal-speak.

So we´ve got the Atlantic quoting Politico who is quoting an anonymous source. Give me a break. This is a liberal slime attack on Brent Bozell and the unnamed Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin.

Reply 4 - Posted by: SouthSanAntonio, 2/7/2013 10:32:01 AM     (No. 9163488)

The last I checked, every crank, hater and bigot I am familiar with are in the Demon-RAT Party.

Michael Moore, Helen Thomas, Robert KKK Byrd, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc, etc, etc. The list could go on all day.

Reply 5 - Posted by: MissMolly, 2/7/2013 10:33:47 AM     (No. 9163491)

Of course "cranks, haters and bigots" were never welcome in the GOP, as opposed to the Dems where they are abundant and revered. It´s risky to let The Atlantic tell us who we are.

Reply 6 - Posted by: MinnesotaWild(man), 2/7/2013 10:37:16 AM     (No. 9163496)

What bothers me most about this headline is the opposition has appointed themselves to decide what is cranky, hateful, and bigoted. As if one has never heard of a self righteous liberal bigot.

Reply 7 - Posted by: Guillermo Sepulveda, 2/7/2013 10:39:31 AM     (No. 9163499)

To call Brent Bozell a ´hater´ just shows how silly the use of this word has become. I can´t think of a conservative that I respect more than him. I guess to disagree is to ´hate´ when it comes to liberal logic.

Liberals seem to regard all disagreement with their politics as "hate speech." The more one disagrees with them, the more one is a "hater" or a crank or a bigot. No decent, rational, moral person could possibly disagree in substance with liberal ideology.

Of course, to come right out and say and admit this, even to themselves, is not possible. It sounds too. . . well, intolerant, dogmatic, even bigoted. But deep or not so deep down, I think this is really what most serious liberals actually believe: there is no justifiable reason for anyone not to agree with them about politics.

I have no idea who these alleged "haters" and cranks and bigots who are to be "marginalized" may be. Something tells me it may be those who express the most disagreement with the liberal brand of politics. Liberals would like to have a Republican party that is much more. . . liberal. Of course they would. But perhaps they have lost sight of the big picture, i.e. the two party system. Or maybe, like Obama, they are just chafing at what they regard as the unnecessary and immoral delay such a system causes them in implementing their programs which, as everyone but the "haters" knows very well, are only aimed at creating a better, fairer, safer world.

If this just little Elspeth indulging in creative fiction, it looks like the GOP Establishment has a pretty good team of "haters" themselves. It also looks like their goal is a 20% to 80% loss to the Democrats in the next presidential election instead of their usual 47% to 52%.

Watching "The Mortal Storm" right now. The early scenes of intense intolerance for anything but the Nazi way of thinking feel just like being at any moonbat leftist social gathering today.

At the rate we´re going, I will feel no surprise when the later scenes of violence and suppression begin.

Do I hear a new party rising? CBH [cranks, bigots and haters] I think given the context of this article, there are many who would find this a good fit Constitution,Boldness and Heritage.

Resuming the discussion class, let´s talk for a few minutes about the true "haters" of this world...For starters, the card carrying Dark Siders who regard the wholesale slaughter of 55,000,000 innocent little souls as a "constitutional right."

This article is nothing but a smear piece, whether the anonymous person is real or a fabrication of the writers of this article. I have been a Republican since Goldwater and have been to three tea party group meetings in my lifetime. I have never met a crank, hater or bigot in any of the above venues. In fact, I´ve known Democrats who have made racist remarks, since most of my acquaintances are liberal Democrats.

Reply 16 - Posted by: joew9, 2/7/2013 11:43:51 AM     (No. 9163659)

I find that the people who are generally labeled cranks, haters, and bigots are not those things. While the ones accusing them generally are.

Is there a worse hater than Al Sharpton? Or Jesse Jackson? Antisemites both. And Joe Biden certainly falls into the bigot/crank category over and over again with his highly insensitive yuk-ing it up with reporters comments that just keep coming even after the criticism of the Indian mini market escapade. And Obama with his disparaging "cling to guns and religion" comment certainly qualifies him as a bigot.

There are no such people in the GOP. They have already gathered together in the democrat party, and the Atlantic Wire is well aware of these facts.

The revelation that the government’s talking points in the wake of the Benghazi attacks were edited to reflect the concerns of a variety of federal agencies has sparked a firestorm of controversy in recent weeks. Some early reports on that email exchange created the erroneous impression that the White House was more deferential to the concerns of State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland, who sought to remove from those talking points a variety of references suggesting the Benghazi attack was the result of a coordinated act of terror. The actual interagency email exchange, released by the Obama administration on Wednesday,

DENVER — Colorado sheriffs upset with gun restrictions adopted in the aftermath of last year’s mass shootings filed a federal lawsuit Friday, challenging the regulations as unconstitutional. The lawsuit involves sheriffs from 54 of Colorado’s 64 counties, most representing rural, gun-friendly areas of the state. The sheriffs say the new state laws violate Second Amendment protections that guarantee the right to keep and bear arms. Opponents are criticizing the lawsuit as political maneuvering. The filing targets Colorado laws that limit the size of ammunition magazines and expand background checks. The regulations

WASHINGTON – Jay Devereaux hadn’t paid much attention to the daily drumbeat of partisan politics in D.C. He wasn’t a Washington nerd, and didn’t know who said what during congressional hearings -- nor did he care. But when news broke that the government was using taxpayer money to bail out Wall Street banks, he started paying attention and didn’t like what he was hearing. So the Florida father and information technology specialist decided to form a group, Unite in Action, to educate people in his area about the issues, he said.

The first lady is recruiting these institutions to join the “Let’s Move! During a House Ways and Means Committee hearing today, Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Ill., grilled outgoing IRS commissioner Steven Miller about the IRS targeting a pro-life group in Iowa. "Their question, specifically asked from the IRS to the Coalition for Life of Iowa: ‘Please detail the content of the members of your organization’s prayers,’" Schock declared. “Would that be an inappropriate question to a 501 c3 applicant?” asked Schock. “The content of one’s prayers?” “It pains me to say I can’t speak to that one either,” Miller replied. After Schock pressed him further, Miller explained that although

WASHINGTON — Congressional Republicans, not resting with the Internal Revenue Service scandal, are moving to broaden the matter to an array of tax malfeasances and “intimidation tactics” they hope will ensnare the White House. Republican charges range from the clearly questionable to the seemingly specious, and they grow by the day. On Friday, lawmakers sought to tie the I.R.S. matter to the implementation of President Obama’s health care law, which will rely heavily on the agency. Whether they succeed holds significant ramifications for Mr. Obama,

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,
