I just spent 1 and 1/2 hours listening to local talk radio discuss this issue.
With the exception of ONE hispanic, ALL had chips on their shoulders. The attitude is "we´re here now, so what are you going to do about it"?
The callers really rubbed me the wrong way.
Instead of being sympathetic, I now think they should go back and take La Raza with them.
None had anything positive to say about being here. Talk about mind-numbed robots!

I´m all for it if they want to assimilate and become Americans.

But,that´s not what they want.They want to be Mexicans with American benefits.

I don´t give a damn what Rubio says. Virtually every new border crosser will be a democrat voter and a burden on our resources.
Heck no. No ILLEGALS getting citizenship with all the attached benefits. No, ALL are not bad but too many illegals are drug smugglers, human traffickers, gang members, and petty criminals. Even the ones that are just good people are very low skilled and we do not need them or the privilege of paying for their education, food stamps, health care, etc. Unemployment is 7.9. We need to add to that???? FOR WHAT?
Keep Importing mexicans and make them legal voters and the country will be nothing but another bananna republic in no time.

It is not all about illegals. Think of the Hispanic citizens who live here and have lived here for generations. It is offensive and insulting to them for us to consider all Hispanics an offensive lump of intruders. They are proud members of the Armed Forces, legislators, Scout leaders, teachers, neighbors.

Don´t hold your breath. Mr. Roy is right in the statement that you must understand where they ´live´ in their minds and their consciousness. That does not bode well for anyone preaching secure borders first (your cousin cannot get through), limited government (lack of services you ´deserve´), low taxes (you don´t pay any), individual liberty (just a free license for whitey to discriminate and get rich at your expense).

Lumping anyone hispanic in with illegal immigrants is the problem many conservatives have, and the contempt that accompanies that pre-judging comes across as We Don´t Like You. Why would a legal citizen of any stripe vote for a group a candidate who represents a mentality like that?

Even more simple: Enforce the laws already on the books. In fact, I would like to read just what the laws say and ask the question; if we already have immigration laws and they are being ignored, what is the point of new laws? I think the only objective of certain people pushing this issue, an issue that does not benefit the average American, is to open this country to an onslaught of economic migrants, for their own nefarious purposes. And giving them the grand prize of legal status doesn´t make them model citizens or make them like conservatives. This is a fake issue. Some of the politicians who created this problem are no longer living, for example Ted Kennedy. This entire issue is between politicians and US citizens. That is, politicians must admit they intentionally ruined our country and our lives sometimes causing death by refusing to secure the border. People who cross Mexico´s border are do not expect respect. They´re lucky to get out without being beaten up or killed.

Never. Immigration "reform" is an immoral redistribution plan in disguise, cooked up by politicians. It asks nothing of Mexico´s wealthy. It allows Mexico to wash its hands of millions of its own poor, and transfers the responsibility for their care and feeding to struggling Americans. It´s designed to lower our own standard of living in preparation for more global control at the expense of American sovereignty. And our politicians are in on it. God save us from the Bush family.

I personally have no respect for people who break our immigration laws, and, by extension, I have no respect for any American who does not respect our immigration laws. I don´t care if you´re hispanic, greek, or an Icelander.

It´s pathetic that we have republicans (Rubio, for one), turning their backs on our laws, refusing to instead call unwaveringly for enforcement of our laws.

If anyone thought republicans were the last bastion of fairness and upholding the law, well, obviously, you can forget about that!

If America had a problem with millions of illegal aliens from Russia or France, would we feel sorry for them? Would we ask them to stay?

Don´t forget it is virtually impossible to enter this country if you came from overseas - but it is so much easier when you have a lovely long land border and your goons control 90 miles of the USA north of the border. Come here legally, or not at all.

Hispanics will never vote for Republicans in large numbers-never. Even Reagan, who gave them amnesty, still didn´t receive a majority of their votes in his re-election. They are no different from the Black community whining about "victim hood" and demanding entitlements. Illegal Mexicans are used to being subjects not citizens and the government doing everything for them, this a cultural attitude that we can´t change. illegal Cubans are a different story altogether, they are less likely to be on welfare and more likely to vote GOP.

Hannity is stupid on this issue. If the wimpy Republicans ever give the liberal Democrats the political cover they need to put just about all the 11-20 million illegal aliens here now on a special path to citizenship, as Hannity appears to be happy to go along with, something that has never been done before in the history of US immigration law, before the wimpy Republicans figure out what is happening, the liberal Democrats through their political allies, the many very liberal ethnic and immigrant rights groups who operate in immigrant communities across the country will have already signed up 10 million or so new Democrat voters.

Once the liberal Democrats have that many new voters on line, they will be able to change the political balance of the country and send the wimpy Republicans on a long-term slide to political suicide. After that happens, you have to wonder what Hannity will propose next?

We supposedly took care of this problem in the 1980´s with Simpson-Mazzoli, but as usual, the government didn´t do its due dilligence to follow the law it passed.

So now rather than solve a problem, we want to open another can of worms that will further be disregarded as some quick and easy solution that has to be resolved so fast that a bad idea will become law.

Ever since Hannity began putting his stamp on this, I have stopped listening to him and all his ´pals´ like Juan Williams.

Guest workers, anchor babies, lawlessness are much more serious issues than in trying to pander to "instant voters" for either party. Certainly nobody can be against someone trying to better themselves, but right now, its money and jobs taken out of US citizens´ pockets.....

If you´re Mexican and want respect from us, why don´t you try respecting the United States--liking being here--instead of looking at it as one big ´gimmee´. Actually, I frequently hear they are natural social conservatives due to their Catholicism.

I do. I have several conservative Hispanic friends. Only 1 is Cuban-American & all the rest are Mexican-American. One interesting insight I learned from one of them was that many Hispanics respect Hillary for staying with her unfaithful husband in contrast to many Anglos who see it as a sign of weakness & lack of self-respect.
