Tony Bennett: ‘I’d like assault
weapons eliminated’ [VIDEO]

Singer Tony Bennett said on Capitol Hill that Congress should eliminate what he called “assault weapons.” “I still haven’t gotten over Connecticut. I’d like the assault weapons to go to war, not in our own country, and I’d like assault weapons eliminated,” said Bennett on Wednesday during a press conference at the Capitol Building. The press event was sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns and The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, both of which favor stricter gun control laws.

Comments:
Excuse me, but we don´t have "Assault Weapons". The Armed Forces have the Assault Weapons. We have constitutionally guaranteed Personal Defense Weapons. And if Tony could actually find his glasses, he would have read that the Connecticut "Assault Weapon" never left the trunk of the crazy guy´s car. What a tool.

Any object used to inflict harm on another person is an assault weapon.Jails are full of people charged with assaults and no gun involved.

It´s just like now,any football player with a behavior issue had to come from a concussion.

If Christie was president,he would likely drop dead in office, unlike any other president who is guaranteed not to die in office. Why do we even need Biden, let alone give him a raise.

We have a proliferation of new liberal lies, myths and language trigger words to manipulate public opinion.

If you shot someone in the head with a derringer,it would be just as deadly as an AR15.

I could make a long list of things I would personally like to be eliminated. Near the top of the list would be washed up elevator-music singers sporting horrible toupees.

I´d like world peace too, and we´re not going to get there without our weapons.

Isn´t he a draft dogger? He doesn´t seem to know much about guns. Just a Hollywood liberal spouting off. Democrats adore him.

A pistol shooting blanks shot at the head would also be just as deadly...just ask John Erik Hexum. Oh, that´s right, you can´t. But seriously, the left has always been a word manipulator and does everything to mislead people. They NEVER tell the truth. If they did, they´d expose how evil they are. Bennett has got to be going senile. Either that or he also left his brain in San Francisco!

I am a fan of Tony´s but he is wrong. Correct me if i am wrong but no assault weapon was used in Connecticut. The shooter used hand guns. He left the assault rifle in the trunk of his car.

I have to ask the same question I ask about all these Hollywood types who spout off about subjects they have no knowledge of.

Why should I care what Tony Bennett thinks? Like Rosie O´Donnell, he´s rich enough to pay for armed bodyguards. I´m not.

First in line should be Tony Bennett.

Poor Tony also left his brain in San Francisco.

Like most of the leftist poodles, Tony is a shallow thinker, easily manipulated.

Reply 11 - Posted by: kanphil, 2/7/2013 7:39:25 AM     (No. 9163095)

Tony Bennett is showing signs of dementia brought on by old age, IMHO. He can´t sing, either.

Reply 12 - Posted by: ROLFnader, 2/7/2013 8:08:02 AM     (No. 9163157)

While Tony Bennett´s song styling and his politics may not be pleasing to everyone´s ear, I have to question the operational integrity of that ear when its owner is telling me that the man can´t sing.

Having said that , I wish he would shut up when not singing during the last 60-70 years.

To quote the great Homer Simpson, "Hollywood Celebrities, is there anything they don´t know?" Why is the opinion of any Hollywood movie star or singer worthy of print space or band width? Their opinions are no more valid than yours of mine. Why the hell is Chris Rock going to Washington to offer his opinion to Congress regarding guns? Finally, why doesn´t our Congress listen to the vast majority of Americans who are very concerned about the loss of our 2nd Amendment rights? It seems to me they should be more concerned with their constituents than libtard movie stars and washed up cocktail lounge singers.

Tony Bennet would not know an assault weapon if one was stuck in his mouth.

The U.S. court system is built upon the Sixth Amendment, which entitles Americans to a fair and speedy trial with an impartial jury. And now, thanks to the increasing use of Urban Dictionary in our courts, Americans also enjoy the right to a trial in the slang of their choosing. How else could county court handle a dispute between two “ratchets?” (Snip) Understandably, the legal use of a website that allows its users to crowdsouce the definitions of “twerking” and “Eskimo brother” can be polarizing.

As you may have heard, Kevin Williamson made the leap from “National Review writer” to “Great American Hero” last night when he decided that enough was enough, that he could no longer idly stand by and watch the shameful state of affairs in our nation’s theaters go unchallenged, that he had to take matters into his own hands. From his account: The lady seated to my immediate right (very close quarters on bench seating) was fairly insistent about using her phone. I asked her to turn it off. She answered: “So don’t look.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) entered a letter from law enforcement officials nationwide warning of the dangers of the immigration bill S.744 into the judiciary committee record today. The letter To Congress from the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Council of the American Federation of Government Employees Affiliated with AFL-CIO warns of the discretionary power the bill gives to “political appointees” and takes away from law enforcers: “Congress can and must take decisive steps to limit the discretion of political appointees and empower ICE and CBP to perform their respective missions

The American ammo shortage has been a boon for foreign ammo makers as ammunition imports into the U.S. doubled during the first months of 2013. According to data from the Commerce Department and the International Trade Commission, imports of ammo cartridges as well as shotguns have just about doubled during the first two months of 2013. For the first two months of 2013, about 457 million cartridges were imported into the U.S. — more than double the amount of cartridges that were imported during the first two months of 2012.

The House was in no rush to take up an internet tax bill that senators approved Monday night. And even if the House takes up the issue, lawmakers said, it will be a bill very different from the Seante´s. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said to expect “thoughtful” consideration in the House, which will involve committee debate and amendments. The version passed in the Senate by a 69-27 vote “has a long way to go,” Goodlatte said Monday.

The Montgomery County Council approved a trio of pay raises for union employees, which will cost the county almost $32 million in fiscal 2014. The council approved the firefighters, police and county government employees union packages 8-1, with only Councilman Phil Andrews, D-Gaithersburg/Rockville, voting against the contracts. He repeatedly has said they´re too high and unsustainable. Though the packages span two years, the council approved only the first year of the deals, which would give employees an average of 7 to 10 percent raises.

For months now, men have been starving themselves in Guantanamo Bay to get the attention of the American people. And for weeks these men, prisoners of the War on Terror, many of whom have been cleared for release, have had the attention of the White House, which is filled with officials, including the President, who sympathize with the prisoners’ plight. “It’s not sustainable,” President Obama said Tuesday, breaking his silence about the protest against his own government. “I mean, the notion that we’re going to continue to keep over 100 individuals in a no-man’s land in perpetuity."

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
