| President Obama yielded Wednesday to congressional demands that he provide access to a secret legal memo on the targeted killing of American terrorism suspects overseas, avoiding a confrontation that threatened the confirmation of John O. Brennan as his new CIA director. Obama directed the Justice Department to hand over the document to the two intelligence committees “as part of the president’s ongoing commitment to consult with Congress on national security matters,” an administration official said.

Can´t help wondering whose names are on the list. (I trust that wasn´t distributed as a memo...)

I want them to investigate where the names on the kill list originate. I have a suspicion that The Muslim Brotherhood either provides the targets or is given approval options on the targets.

Recall that years ago, and I spent the last 15 minutes looking for online verification but failed, that part of the Weather Underground manifesto was to eliminate unnecessary people in the U.S. There was a bar set, a number, of ´´acceptable´´ human lives to be sacrificed in order to attain the perfect world communism.
They´ve already redefined ´terrorist´ to encompass returning veterans, and patriots, TEA party conservatives, and constitutionalists (specifically 2nd Amendment supporters). How long before the word ´overseas´ disappears from this order?
The select Congressmen ALLOWED to see this memo will not be offered a copy, nor will they be ALLOWED to snapshot it. What they see today could very well be rewritten as desired and whoever later claims that this or that was not there, will be accused of merely faulty memory.
And there we´ll be....

Collateral damage? Any sentient being would be wary of living with or even near a big time Jihadi. If you are a passenger in in a stolen car and the driver has a gun and starts firing at the police chasing them, you are likely to be ´collateral damage." Let´s get a process to review the list of targets -- a review that includes the judiciary and has approval of the Congress. A ´constitutional law´ instructor ought to know this.

Sorry Jebediah, "Its good to be king" was Mel Brooks, not Monty Python. The sentiment is very apropos however.
I don´t necessarily disagree with using drones to take out those who have declared that they are at war with the United States, including traitorous Americans who give aid and comfort to our enemies. I am however totally astounded at the sheer hypocracy of the current regime. If this were George Bush the left would be screaming for his head on a pike. Instead King Zippy gets a pass from the propaganda wing of the Zippy regime, also known as the media.

Are we still in a war or not??? I thought the war was over. This isn´t a post partial birth abortion we´re talking about here! Upon whose authority are these actions being taken? Who has oversight as a check or balance? Who is answerable to "We the People"? That´s why the Founders created the separate branches. I now expect the news media not to tell the story, but that doesn´t mean the story doesn´t need to be told. Congress you have an additional job to play in that role now that the media has abdicated their spot. Congress, is this what you intended? The President is the executive. He is not the sovereign. If anything is closer to the sovereign, the People´s House is! And being constitutionally "learned", he knows it. Congress, House of Representatives, you´re the ones closest to the people. The ones who have to stand for election most frequently. Please get to work! Or tell us why you´re allowing this to occur. I hope we see a real leader step up...

One thing that´s always amused me about this sort of Top Secret thing: if it has to be kept secret, why even bother drafting a memo?
We all know that Obama is doing the drone strikes because he can get away with it, not because there´s a legal or constitutional authority to back it up.

#33 I hate to hear anyone say that zippy is right about anything unless he decides on self euthanasia. But Dr. K is right, however the circumstances were quite different, there was an actual war going on right here on our turf, and those times would be the same as today if armed people were marching in the streets of NY and shooting people who live there because they weren´t wearing gray outfits, the police or any representatives of the people. But Zips war is the equivalent of saying about any citizen "I think he is one of them so kill him just in case."

I think that the people who voted for Obama don´t even know this is going on, They don´t read or hear the news as they are "very low information voters" and really don´t care what happens in this country as long as they get their food stamps and welfare check every month. They probably don´t even listen to the news on those phones Obama gave them and if they do, they only hear the liberal bias news media so they still don´t know anything. Our goose is cooked - there is nothing we can do about it - ever.

Thousands of activists rallied outside the Capitol on Wednesday to protest the IRS targeting of conservative and tea party groups, with many of the event’s speakers laying the blame for the fiasco squarely at the White House. The “Audit the IRS” rally, organized by the Tea Party Patriots organization in response to the agency’s improper scrutiny of conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status, drew members and leaders of tea party groups across the country, radio personality Glenn Beck and the Senate’s tea party trio: Republicans Rand Paul of Kentucky, Mike Lee of Utah and Ted Cruz of Texas

The government’s chief auditor on Wednesday said President Obama’s health care overhaul is in danger of missing key October deadlines, raising concerns it could be the nightmare that Republicans and even some Democratic lawmakers have feared of late. In one study released Wednesday, the Government Accountability Office offered a mixed review of the Obama administration efforts to make sure the “exchanges” — insurance markets where individuals and businesses can shop for health plans — will be open for enrollment

DENVER — College campuses are known for proudly proclaiming their refusal to tolerate discrimination against any minority group, but try telling that to a conservative. Few would disagree that conservative professors are an endangered species on campus, which is why the University of Colorado Board of Regents is scheduled to consider Thursday a resolution that would prohibit discrimination based on “political affiliation or political philosophy.” Regent James Geddes said the proposed policy change is aimed at bringing more diversity of intellectual thought

Journalist Michael Hastings was killed early Tuesday morning in a bizarre car incident in Los Angeles. Hastings, 33, was best known for writing the Rolling Stone story that ended in Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s resignation as head of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Hastings’ final story, “Why Democrats Love to Spy on Americans,” was a searing take on the NSA snooping scandal, which Hastings described as “North Korea-esque.” Hastings pulled no punches as he linked the NSA scandal to the Department of Justice’s spying on reporters and the IRS abuse scandal. Hastings built a case that the same Democrats who turned Bush-era

An IRS supervisor working in Washington told congressional investigators that she personally reviewed applications from groups for tax-exempt status, in testimony that appears to show the agency’s scrutiny of conservative groups extended beyond the confines of the office in Cincinnati. Holly Paz, who was a supervisor in the Internal Revenue Service’s tax-exempt status division, indicated during an interview with congressional investigators that she did review such applications, but indicated that she believed “tea party” meant political advocacy in general — not necessarily conservative groups.

The Supreme Court ruled today in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council that federal law does not allow states the option of requiring voters to prove they are American citizens when they register to vote. The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA, or “Motor Voter”) creates a standardized national system for registering to vote in federal elections. It allows for registration three ways: (1) in person, (2) when you get your driver’s license, or (3) by mail. The Election Assistance Commission (EAC, created by a later federal law in 2002)

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
