State Capitol troopers begin carrying assault rifles

| Regulars around the state Capitol will soon be seeing something different: Troopers carrying military-style assault rifles. The upgrade in firepower isn’t precisely incident specific – but you can hear echoes of Sandy Hook Elementary School in the explanation from Col. Mark McDonough, commissioner of the state Department of Public Safety. We were outside the Senate chamber, and McDonough pointed to the rotunda below us: “See all those children down there?” he asked. The Capitol is routinely filled with students on field trips this time of year. Officers once armed only with handguns

Comments: This article is so silly on so many levels...first he refers to semi-automatic weapons as assault rifles and that they´re military grade. Then he ends the article with: Purely as a matter of coincidence, Second Amendment enthusiasts plan to hold an “armed rally” on the steps of the state Capitol this Friday. “I’m sure they’ll have their long guns,” McDonough said. “And we’ll have ours.” Ridiculous Jim.

When they outlaw guns, only outlaws and the government will have them! Disconcerting on both levels!!

Assault rifle.
"Assault rifle" has become a term much like "decimate."
Everybody loves to throw it around, but most people have no idea what it means.
I´m growing weary of the unremitting ignorance that has flooded this great country. I´m not confident we can recover this time.

The ONLY people at the (GA) Capitol that day with "assault rifles" (assuming that the M-6 is ´select fire´ ie. capable of burst or auto, and generally limited to three round burst by the US military) will be the Troopers. Some of the citizens may have semi-automatic rifles (or shotguns) which bear a cosmetic resemblance to the aforementioned firearms. By definition a semi-automatic firearm is no more capable of "spraying rounds" than a revolver.
The ignorance out there, that is accepted , unchallenged,as factis staggering.

So who are they planning to assault?
If these rifles are "not needed for self defense purposes" as is widely claimed by the leftist hoplophobes, then why would the police want them? /sarcasm off/

Let´s see if I have this righ- instead of working on mental health among a select group or shooters in the hood, the rest of the country will now resemble downtown Baghdad.

Philadelphia-A judge has thrown out some of the murder charges against a Philadelphia abortion provider involving babies allegedly born alive. Common pleas court Judge Jeffrey Minehart dismissed three first-degree murder charges Tuesday against Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Minehart has not explained the reasoning behind his ruling. Prosecutors have argued that the babies were viable and Gosnell and his staff cut them in the back of the neck to kill them.

Our universe didn´t need any divine help to burst into being, famed cosmologist Stephen Hawking told a packed house here at the California Institute of Technology Tuesday night. By 6:00 p.m. local time, the line was about a quarter-mile long. SNIP He noted that many people still seek a divine solution to counter the theories of curious physicists...

DENVER — Because of a paperwork error, the suspect in last month´s killing of Colorado´s corrections chief was freed from prison in January — four years earlier than authorities intended. Judicial officials acknowledged Monday that Evan Spencer Ebel´s previous felony conviction had been inaccurately recorded and his release was a mistake. In 2008, Ebel pleaded guilty in rural Fremont County to assaulting a prison officer. In the plea deal, Ebel was to be sentenced to up to four additional years in prison, to be served after he completed the eight-year sentence that put him behind bars in 2005, according to a statement from Colorado's 11th Judicial District.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

PRESIDENT OBAMA: You are the mantle of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington and Ralph Bunche and Langston Hughes and George Washington Carver and Ralph Abernathy and Thurgood Marshall and, yes, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These men were many things to many people and they knew full well the role that racism played in their life. But when it came to their own accomplishments and sense of purpose, they had no time for excuses. Every one of you has a grandma or an uncle or a parent whose told you at some point in life

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
