| It´s the job of government, not families, to take care of grandma, says Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. McDermott, appearing on C-SPAN Tuesday, said he opposes cuts to Medicare, the government program that paid his own parents´ medical bills: "Now we have a Medicare program, where my father -- and my father lived to 93, my mother to 97 -- and my brothers and sisters and I did nothing for them, except pay their taxes." McDermott said there is no reason to cut Medicare benefits for senior citizens, even though spending will

My husband and I took his mother out of a nursing home and cared for her in our home until she passed away from Alzheimers. Yes, her Medicare paid for doctor visits and medicine but we saved our government a fortune and gave her love to the end.

McDermott should be in jail for his involvement in the illegally obtained phone-tap recording of Newt Gingrich´s phone.

Hasn´t McDermott read the CBO report of the transfer of $716 billion from paying for Medicare services into Obamacare? McDermott pushed granny off the cliff.

Gee, to raise a moron like McDermott was punishment enough. That they had to depend on government in their declining years, without the help of their children, was disgraceful.

We converted the garage and back porch into a MIL Suite for my MIL. She moved in with us-her and her 75 lb. dog- and lived with us until the day I came home and held her as she had a stroke and died. I can still see her in my mind, and I would do it again, in a heartbeat. That his man can look in a mirror and shave without cutting his own throat puts to rest once and for all the canard that the Left is more compassionate than the RIght.

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz announced an amendment to the Senate immigration bill to block a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants on Wednesday. Cruz previously attempted to insert the amendment to prevent a pathway in the Judiciary Committee mark-up of the legislation. The Texas Republican has been a vocal opponent of allowing illegal immigrants a path to citizenship, explaining that is is unfair to those who waited in line to come to the country legally.“A path to citizenship is the most divisive aspect of this bill,” Cruz told “The Fine Point” earlier this month.

Attorney General Eric Holder hosted a “pride” event for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders at the Justice Department on Tuesday, telling attendees that the homosexual agenda will be a “priority” during the remainder of his time as the nation’s top cop. “The fact remains that across the country far too many LBGT Americans suffer discrimination each and every day,” Holder said. “That’s why the department will keep working to create opportunity and access for every individual. That’s why this will continue to be a priority for this department as long as I have the privilege of

The federal government spends six times more on disaster recovery than helping communities become resilient to extreme weather that’s predicted to become more intense and frequent in a warming world, a new study shows. The analysis by the Center for American Progress (CAP), a prominent liberal think tank, labels the approach “pound foolish” and calls for a dedicated fund for “community resilience” fed by higher levies on fossil fuel production. “We must help communities enhance their ability to withstand the high winds, flood waters, scorching heat, searing wild fires, and parched earth from extreme weather,”

President Obama´s top climate adviser on Wednesday vowed that “meaningful” action on global warming was coming soon. Heather Zichal, the deputy assistant to the president on energy and climate change, said she didn’t want to get “in front of the big man” and unveil specific plans during an event in Washington, D.C. hosted by The New Republic. She spoke broadly, however, of bolstering energy efficiency, expanding clean energy on public lands and using various “tools” -- including the Clean Air Act -- to address climate. Zichal’s comments come as speculation grows that the administration is preparing sweeping

The FBI uses drones to watch specific targets within the United States, the bureau’s chief said Wednesday. FBI Director Robert Mueller told senators the agency uses drones infrequently for surveillance in the U.S. and only in regards to specific investigations. “Our footprint is very small,” Mueller said in testimony. “We have very few and have limited use.” Mueller made the revelation before the Senate Judiciary Committee after being questioned by the panel’s ranking member, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). Mueller said he wasn’t certain whether the FBI had any official agreements with other agencies — such as the

The Obama administration has reportedly contacted the National Basketball Association (NBA) about a role in promoting healthcare reform around the country. Efforts to sell ObamaCare are ramping up ahead of October, when people can begin signing up for the new insurance exchanges, and January, when the exchange coverage kicks in. Many have speculated that the enrollment campaigns would benefit from a celebrity endorsement or partnership with a major sports league. The news of a possible collaboration between the White House and the NBA was reported by Politico, which cited health officials in

As he gets ready to leave the mayor´s post in Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa is making clear that he´s got his sights on becoming governor of California — at least someday. Villaraigosa, a fixture on TV last summer as he presided over the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, was not coy when discussing his political future Tuesday with KPCC radio. "You mentioned governor. Look I believe in public service. I want to run for governor. In fact, I fully expect that I will, " Villaraigosa told KPCC´s Larry Mantle. "I´m going to tell you something. I will never

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
