| MIDLAND CITY — The Alabama man who held a 5-year-old boy captive for nearly a week engaged in a firefight with SWAT agents storming his underground bunker before he was killed during the rescue operation, the FBI said Tuesday night. Also, bomb technicians scouring his rural property found two explosive devices, one in the bunker, one in a plastic pipe that negotiators used to communicate with the man. (Snip)Dykes “reinforced the bunker against any attempted entry by law enforcement,” FBI Special Agent Jason Pack said in an email.

Comments:
The county coroner was unable to confirm how Dykes died because as of yesterday his body was still in the bunker.
An anonymous source says law enforcement requested special equipment from the fed, which Panetta was said to have approved, but the source did not know if it had been used.

I don´t much care how he died, just glad he did. My only regret is that it was in front of the boy though he may have been shielded by police and quickly removed. Probably so. Children that age are very resilient and with proper long term counseling and a loving family he will recover.

Agreed, #1 - he´ll probably recover much better than you or I would. Kids really are resilient. That´s not to say trauma does not affect them, but he may view this all as more of a pain (kind of like going to the dr.) versus the dire situation it really was. I´m so thankful the perp is dead. Saved him and his family the anguish of a trial, and saved the state of Alabama a lot of money. Let God deal with him.

There was no intention of capturing this guy. For the boys safety they busted in and killed the perp immediately. Good work.

There was no need for a lengthy, expensive trial, where all the liberal apologists would make excuses for Dykes and drag it out. Nor was there any need to support him, at taxpayer expense, in prison for the rest of his life. Even if he had received the death penalty, it would take 20 years to carry it out.

(ORLANDO, Fla.) — A Chechen immigrant shot to death in central Florida after an altercation with an FBI agent had several ties to that of one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects who authorities were questioning him about at the time.(Snip)Three law enforcement officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Todashev had lunged at the FBI agent with a knife. However, two of those officials said later in the day it was no longer clear what had happened. The third official had not received any new information.

We can now officially call the Obama administration besieged. One of President Obama´s underlings is set to plead her Fifth Amendment Right against self-incrimination in the burgeoning IRS scandal. The Los Angeles Times broke the story: Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won´t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening - or why she didn´t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance.
