| As Iran teetered on the brink of revolution, the Carter administration transferred approximately 70 F-14 fighter jets to the Iranian air force. At the time, the F-14 was perhaps the top platform in the U.S. Air Force, a plane upon which a generation of American air defense rested. It is ironic that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Air Force is today the only country that actively uses the F-14, although some U.S. National Guard units do also occasionally fly the plane. Not that it contradicts the authors larger point, but the F-14 was a Navy plane, not an Air Force plane, and there are none left operational in the U.S., even in reserve. All operational ones remaining after retirement were destroyed so none of the parts could ever make it to Iran.

1a. Because he can.
1b. Because he will do whatever he is allowed to get away with to damage US interests and weaken our position in the world wherever he can.
2a. The F-14 Tomcat was operated by the US Navy. I am not aware the USAF ever used them as a front-line interceptor. A few might have been used for exercises or "aggressor" roles. Maybe.
2b. The F-14 was big, size was mission-dictated. They were fleet [Battle Group] air defense against fast, long-range Soviet bombers carrying high-speed air-to-surface cruise missiles. The F-14 was capable of about Mach 2.4, carry any of our air-to-air missiles, and the only plane to operate the big, long-range Mach 5 Phoenix air-to-air missile [to attack the Soviet planes mentioned]. It could carry up to six of them, or a mix of missiles.

Why is he giving Abrams tanks and F-16s to Egypt? They are not our friend and will probably use them against Isreal. But then again that may be why we are providing them. The fact of the matter, if we get in a real war, we might need those tanks and planes ourselves, but than O would probably surrender first.

Previous posters are correct. F-14 Tomcat was NEVER flown by ANY services except US Navy and Iranian Air Force. Zero are flying outside of Iran.
ALL US F-14s were destroyed after they left the US Navy service, except for a few totally gutted airframes in museums and as gate guards. All spare parts have been thoroughly destroyed to prevent Iran from obtaining them.

It´s a fire sale, it´s all got to go.
The money is all gone. America´s gold reserves are gone as the Germans have found out when federal reserve (privately owned institution who emptied fort knox) informed Germany it would take seven years to return the gold that Germany actualy believed they were storing in the federal reserve repository.
The Chinese government has even sent teams to America to inventory assets that could settle the debts that can not be paid off with fiat American dollars that have little to no value. Say goodbye to those national parks that sit over valuable resources.

In the last three years she has received $103,390 in bonuses for her excellent work. She was the Commissioner of the Tax-Exempt and Government Entitles Division. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.
