| The Oregon attorney general’s office is investigating a Portland-area bakery after a lesbian couple filed a complaint alleging that the owner discriminated against them when he declined to make a wedding cake for their same-sex “marriage.” Aaron Klein, who owns and operates Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakery along with his wife in Gresham, Ore., said he received notice of the complaint last week from the Oregon Department of Justice. The complaint stems from an incident which occurred Jan. 17, when a woman came in with her mother to test wedding cakes.

Comments: Here´s just another example that we no longer live in a free country. This is what happens when leftists and anti-discrimination laws go out of control.

Wow, we should all move to Oregon.
Cleary, they have so few unsolved crimes in Oregon that the Attorney General´s office can waste valuable resources on investigating a businessman that chose not to do business with a potential client.
It must be paradise there. All pretty rainbows and sweet-smelling unicorn farts. That should become the new state motto for Oregon...

Manning said that while Oregon does not sanction same-sex marriage, it is against Oregon law for “a public accommodation” to refuse to do business with a customer on the basis of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
Has this law ever been tested before the courts? I would think it would violate the freedom of association provision of the Bill of Rights.

This reminds me of the 1960s, when private owners of restaurants refused to serve colored patrons. The private owner´s rules for his business were declared unconstitutional, and he had to serve all. I imagine this bakery business will be treated similarly.

I would sell a wedding cake the same as selling donuts, why make a stand where you don´t need to make one? Don´t run a bakery if you have to worry about what kind of customer you´re selling to. Read I Corinthians 8 - 11. To refuse a customer based on his/her belief system is legalism.

Get a life - are there not more important things for the AG to be doing? If someone does not want to sell you a cake - go somewhere where they will.

I fully support this gentleman.God bless him for sticking to his beliefs. I´m with #4, why didn´t those scissor sisters just go to another bakery? Im sure Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland would be thrilled to bake a lesbian cake... And they would put bacon on it,too! Why are lesbians always so angry?

#7 has the correct answer. The mother came back and tried to calm the situation down and the baker only made it worse. Really bad decision on the baker´s part.

It´s not just baking a wedding cake - the baker has to participate in the reception. He has to take the cake there to set up the table pattern and put the tiers on.
Not the same as just selling a donut.

So just make them an ugly, tasteless, cake and wish them the best of luck. If an artists, and cake decorators are artists, heart isn´t in the project it will not turn out well. Besides you know that someone who would go to court over this wasn´t going to pay for the cake anyway. They would have found something to be dissatisfied with, and the baker would have had to eat the cost.

When the baker learned that the cake was for a same-sex wedding, all he had to do was triple the price quote.
They would have either walked out, or bought the cake, and the baker could donate the excess to a charity of his choice.

Perhaps a compromise is in order.
In the future, the baker will prepare cakes for hot supermodel-type lesbians, but not for flannel-shirt truckdriver-wallet lesbians.

I can´t believe how nasty some of these posts are. People here are advocating purposely sabotaging their wedding just because they are PREJUDICED against these women who are different than themselves. Yes, prejudiced..negatively, i.e. bigoted.
I suppose then it is alright if an atheist intentionally put extra salt or somehow sabotaged a Christian wedding cake, right? Or charged them 3 times what they would charge someone else? Or maybe refuse service to conservatives...what do you think? Listen to yourselves. Yes, my first reaction was "whatever happened to right to refuse service"?...but then I thought about it and realized that this had much larger implications. I don´t want to go back to the days of segregation and overt bigotry--especially knowing how the leftist have become so intent on wiping our conservatives. We will be the ones suffering in the end.

It should be the baker´s right to determine if it offends his beliefs to the point of refusing business though I wish some folks here wouldn´t be so nasty about it!

If an atheist didn´t want to serve a Christian, the Christian would not raise a fuss or sue. The Christian would just find someone else to buy the cake from. The nasty comments are against this woman trying to force someone to cater to her even though they have a religious reason not to. She is the nasty one. She deserves the negative comments.

Pay attention to the real point here, folks. If you don´t think same-sex attraction is just fine and dandy, you´re (CAPS ON) PREJUDICED! (caps off). Morality is so, you know, bigoted. And SSA is just the same as skin color. And you black people who find that offensive, well, you´re PREJUDICED! too.

Gosnell was sentenced to more than three consecutive life sentences after performing hundreds of late-term abortions. On America Live, Jim McMahon continued to defend his client against the horrific details of his crimes. Kelly started the interview saying, “We don’t tar the attorney with the sins of the client.” McMahon said Gosnell was “disappointed and upset” over the verdict.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Several days ago some fringe “conservatives” mentioned the idea of impeaching President Obama. For reasons as obvious as they are numerous, that is a terrible idea. Saying that is like throwing chum out to the worst conservatives, the ones who act like liberals, the ones who are all angry instinct, who rather than strategize their way to victory would rather sweep the pieces off the table and throw a tantrum on the floor. Serious and effective conservatism demands putting facts and reason above emotion and hysteria. Some comments concerning potential impeachment are so

Sen. Harry Reid said Wednesday that he will push to confirm more judges to the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., after that court ruled earlier this year that President Obama’s broad use of recess appointment powers was unconstitutional. “You have a majority in that court that is wrecking havoc in the country. For the first time in 230 years, they ruled the president can’t make a recess appointment, so yes there is a crisis,” Mr. Reid, the chamber’s leader, said on the Senate floor as he begged for quick action on more of the president’s judicial nominees.

Mayor Bloomberg went on a spitting-mad rant against a city cab-fleet boss who won a court victory over Hizzoner’s planned “Taxi of Tomorrow” — vowing to “destroy your f--king industry” when he leaves office, The Post has learned. A fuming Bloomberg made the threat against Taxi Club Management CEO Gene Freidman at Madison Square Garden’s private 1879 Club during last Thursday’s Knick playoff game, a witness said yesterday. “It was like Gene had kidnapped his child. He used the f-word twice,” the witness said. Freidman confirmed the blow-up to The Post, and said Bloomberg’s tirade included the warning that,

According to Republican Rep. Jim Jordan and White House visitor logs, former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman visited the White House 118 times in 2010 and 2011. This is the same time period when Tea Party groups were inappropriately targeted and intimidated by the IRS. Testifying in front of lawmakers on Capitol Hill Wednesday, Shulman admitted that many of the meetings with the White House were to discuss how to implement ObamaCare. "The IRS has a major roll in the money flow," Shulman said. Shulman denied ever discussing 501c(4) groups with White House officials

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
