Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) will speak for the first time at this year´s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a regular stop for Republican presidential hopefuls. The move is a sign that Bush is seeking a more public role within the GOP, though it´s unclear whether he´s more interested in playing an elder-statesman role or in running for president. While Bush has been invited to speak at previous CPAC events, this is the first time he´s accepted the offer. "We are pleased to announce that my friend Governor Jeb Bush will be a featured speaker at CPAC 2013,"
As Governor his daughter was arrested for illegal drug prescriptions and his wife tried to bring expensive items in without paying duty-entitled? Why did Jeb and his father meet with the Usurper in the WH before the election? Selling Romney out to keep seat open for Jeb in 2016? Barbara Bush´s nasty comments about Palin? Barbara -wealthy heiress who dropped out of college to marry. Sarah -put herself through college, married, had a Family, fought corruption in both Parties and won the Governorship. Barbara thought she could look down on her because she wasn´t rich and entitled. Sorry - no more Bushes.
I think Jeb Bush would make a great president, but I don´t expect he´ll run. His focus is on preparing the way for his son George P. to run, after Obama has made such a mess of things that the country will be begging for a Bush to run!
ROFLOL. Does this Hill reporter think he is talking to idiots? "...it´s unclear whether he´s more interested in playing an elder statesman role or in running for President". Boy, have we seen this movie before.
Good for Jeb. I´m happy to see anyone who claims an R and has done a good job as a full term governor under my conservative tent. He will have something useful to add to the CPAC effort. And,you can relax, #1. No old Bush boogeybear will be chasing you in 2016. It´s all going to be okay.
I don´t think the Republicans have learned anything from the last election. Don´t they know that a lot of Republicans will just stay home again, sick at their stomach, if they nominate someone like Jeb Bush.
Anyone who actually cares to look at his RECORD as governor, would know that he was a conservative in the vein of Rick Perry. On quite a few issues, he is to the right of his brother and definitely to the right of his Dad...at least in terms of governance.
As long as Republicans have open primaries the Democrats will vote in droves for Jeb Bush knowing the conservatives will never vote for him. If he gets the nomination he will get fewer votes than Romney. Good grief what are we becoming an aristocracy? No more Bushes and no more Clinton´s including Hillary and Chelsea.
Some posters tickle me to death. How many elections do you think you will win without the people you seem to hate and it´s a long list, all of the Bushes, Karl Rove, the devil, and everyone else who disagrees with you "true" conservatives, including the CPAC?
Let´s see: One term governor, R after his name, political family....
Well, I guess that really does tick all the boxes. He must be a conservative. We should probably nominate him right now to save time and avoid those nasty primaries with all those people trying to take the nomination away from its rightful owner.
Moving right along, sure would prefer to see Kris Kobach(Ks.), address CPAC. And Gov. Walker. And, yes, Gov. Palin. There are LOTS of other merited GOP voices out here and we are waiting expectantly for all of them to be heard!
Out with the same olds & in with the new!...Conservatives, that is!
I agree that a third Bush is to much, however I cannot believe the ignorant comments here. Most of you must be to lazy to check out his record.#24 he served two terms. He was a very conservative governor, anyone remember Terry Schiavo tax cuts balanced budgets. Most of you posting have never looked at his record. It´s unnerving to think conservatives think with their emotions like liberals.
Apologies for the second post (not that anyone´s still reading). When Samuel Johnson was asked to explain how he had so badly misdefined one entry in his Dictionary, he replied, "Ignorance, Madam. Pure ignorance." Jeb Bush did, indeed, serve two terms as Governor of Florida, as #26 correctly points out. Pure ignorance on my part. So now we agree on two things: I am ignorant and Jeb Bush should not be our nominee in 2016.
The former South African president died Thursday at age 95. Remember him through his uplifting and revolutionary words. 1. "A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination." 2. "Never, never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another. " 3. "There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living." (Snip) 12. "It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person
BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: I´ve gotta tell, another little thing about Nelson Mandela. Do you realize in a couple of ways, maybe even more than a couple, Nelson Mandela has more in common or had more in common with Clarence Thomas than he does with Barack Obama? For example, Nelson Mandela (even prior to becoming president, but certainly after he became president of South Africa) insisted on compliance with his country´s constitution. He insisted on it. Obama looks at the US Constitution as an obstacle and makes end runs around it every day, practically. In that sense... These are the kind of
RUSH: Let me give you what is, I think, one of the most amazing things I ever heard Nelson Mandela say. We had fun with Mandela when he was in New York, when he came to New York and went to Yankees Stadium. But I´ll tell you, there are very few people that could have undergone what he went through and maintained any sense of dignity or optimism.(Snip) "Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies." Is that not great? And it´s great because it´s exactly right. Resentment doesn´t do anybody any good.
The U.S. federal health insurance website HealthCare.gov, which has had technology problems since its October 1 launch, is now experiencing errors in transmitting applications about 10 percent of the time, a government spokeswoman said on Friday. The online insurance marketplace relays information about new customers in ´834´ transaction forms to the private insurance companies that provide the health plans. HealthCare.gov serves people in 36 states, while 14 states are running their own websites. "We believe nine of 10 transactions are being successfully transmitted," the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, spokeswoman Julie Bataille said at a news briefing.
Washington — Thad Cochran, a Mississippi Republican who was first elected to the Senate in 1978, set up a generational and ideological clash in the state’s Republican primary when he announced Friday that he would seek a seventh term in 2014. While Mr. Cochran, who turns 76 on Saturday, has the support of many leading Republicans in the state, he is already facing opposition from Chris McDaniel, 41, a state senator aligned with the Tea Party who announced his candidacy in October and has won the support of some conservative groups. Mr. Cochran, who has raised less than $1 million
Rep. James Sensenbrenner Jr., the original author of the Patriot Act, says Director of National Intelligence James Clapper should be prosecuted for lying to Congress. "Lying to Congress is a federal offense, and Clapper ought to be fired and prosecuted for it," the Wisconsin Republican said in an interview with The Hill. He said the Justice Department should prosecute Clapper for giving false testimony during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing in March. During that hearing, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) asked Clapper whether the National Security Agency (NSA) collects data on millions of Americans. Clapper insisted that the NSA does not
Washington - President Barack Obama on Thursday defended his nuclear diplomacy with Iran before an audience of Israeli diplomats and senior members of the US Jewish community and officials. At a White House Hanukkah reception, Obama said that it was important for the United States to test Iran´s intentions, and pledged to keep working for a comprehensive deal to deprive Tehran of a nuclear weapon. "For the first time in a decade we have halted progress of Iran´s nuclear program," Obama said. "Key parts of the program will be rolled back even though the toughest of our sanctions remain in
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
