| Opening the first immigration hearing of the new Congress, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee warned his colleagues not to use the term "illegal immigrant" as the debate goes on. "I hope no one uses the term illegal immigrants here today. Our citizens are not — the people in this country are not illegal. They are are out of status. They are new Americans that are immigrants," said Rep. John Conyers Jr., Michigan Democrat. As Congress begins the immigration debate, both sides are preparing for an emotionally charged fight, and language will be one of the battlegrounds.

Comments: This is even worse than the other article I posted. The people in this country are not illegal?? This is why dealing with Democrats is fruitless. They are so delusional they have no credibility whatsoever and have no desire to uphold the rule of law.

This kind of semantic pussy-footing is depressing and demoralizing, particularly so coming from an elected official and member of the government. I´m not going to take the low road and do what a liberal would do and question his intelligence, but...

It´s amazing how many of the people we elect to govern this country can be so obtuse!

You are here legally, or not.
Do Democrats care if people are entering the country legally?
And he wants to simply say "they´re out of status"?
Isn´t that saying "they don´t have legal status to be in this country"?

They are illegal aliens!!! I had a green card--I was a legal alien. Call them "out of status"? How about calling me "out of patience"? Will I be referred to as "in status" now I´m a citizen? What a stupid meaningless, bureacratic term! I´m going to call myself what I am--formerly a legal alien, now a US Citizen who followed all the rules, jumped through all the hoops and paid a significant amount of money to become a citizen. As for "out of statusers," how about "OOSers" for short? Yeah, I like that!
Oh, this makes me so angry I have steam coming out my ears, just like the alleged smoke from alleged Obama´s alleged rifle. A pox on all of ´em!

Conyers, whose wife marcia may still be incarcerated at a federal prison, by the way, is using Orwellian language modification. If we no longer call an illegal immigrant illegal, but a ´citizen´ as he seem to do, then there is no reason for border protection or citizenship procedures.

English is a complicated language. Many words can confuse and actually have opposite meanings. Progressive is also often confused with progress. Progress and Congress should never be used in the same sentence. Democrat and Democracy also confuse those who think Democrats want Democracy. I guess now if you are standing inside the borders of America you are considered an American by royal decree.

“He who controls the language controls the masses”. – Saul Alinsky in Rules for Radicals. Conyers is saying this to control the language or the terminology. He knows that they are here illegally. We on the right should learn how to control the language or at least continue to use the non-pc language.

The words "alien" and "immigrant" are defined words in the immigration laws. Generally the word "alien" is defined as any person who is not a citizen or national of the USA, and the word "immigrant" is generally defined as any alien, other then an alien here on a temporary visa, who is allowed to live and work here in accordance with the immigration laws.
It is clear that any alien who is here outside the immigration laws is here illegally, and cannot meet the lawful definition of being an immigrant. That´s why they have commonly been referred to as illegal aliens.
By using other and "nicer" terms to refer to illegal aliens, the Democrats are usually trying to fool most people who know little or nothing about the immigration laws, especially by lumping the legal immigrant population together with illegal aliens by referring to the all as being immigrants.
In the case of especially Mexicans who are living and working in the USA illegally, most are not immigrants, but are actually migrants who come here for economic purposes. Those Mexicans are happy and proud to be Mexicans, and wish to be able to live and work here with dignity, and be able to come and go from the USA as they choose. They could care less about the US immigration laws, the borderline, and US sovereignty issues related to them being here.
If those Mexicans were allowed to simply stay here, work, and travel back and forth to Mexico most would be very happy. The only entities who want to make all those millions of Mexicans US citizens are the Democrats, and their political allies, the many very liberal ethnic and immigrant rights groups who look at every illegal alien as being a potential new Democrat voter.

Now, I am an ABC - American By Choice, a citizen and proud to be so. the word Immigrant must be prefaced by the correct descriptor, which is either legal or illegal for any imntelligent discussion to take place.

I never say illegal immigrant. Immigration to the US is a legal process with rules and responsibilities. I just say illegal alien. Or illegals.
Illegal entry involves ongoing and deliberate deception, lying, cheating, false identities, identity theft, and job stealing, none of which are benign and all of which are harmful to our national interest.

Criminal alien invaders.
There is already a simple, straight-forward "path to citizenship" and has been for decades.
It begins in the country of their birth with an application for a visa.
Anything else is a crime--even if one considers it a "code violation," like a parking ticket--and should not be rewarded with amnesty ahead of those following the rules.
How many legs does a dog have, if you call the tail a leg...he still has four, and aliens who do not follow the rules are still illegals, criminal alien invaders!

In a new editorial, the folks at National Review came out strongly against the immigration plan being sponsored by the "Gang of Eight," a group of Senators that includes Marco Rubio (R-FL), calling the bill "Rubio´s Folly." National Review urges Senator Rubio to vote against the bill he has helped craft. It slams the proposed legislation as, "an amnesty-first, enforcement-maybe program drawn up mainly to reflect the priorities of 11 million citizens of other countries rather than the concerns of more than 300 million citizens of the United States." A pair of centrist senators introduced a bill Wednesday to soften the employer mandate in President Obama´s healthcare law. The healthcare law requires employers to offer coverage to employees who work more than 30 hours per week. Some employers have said they will reduce workers´ hours to avoid the mandate. Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) proposed a bill to move the threshold to 40 hours per week, saying the employer mandate should match the traditional definition of a full-time worker. Marco Rubio made another one of his seemingly endless appearances on Sean Hannity’s program to advocate amnesty legislation. Rubio told Hannity that he has opposed amendments by Republican Senators to improve the legislation’s enforcement provisions because a new enforcement provision will be proposed tomorrow that is tougher and more effective than what has been proposed so far. Rand Paul’s amendment, which Rubio voted against, would have given Congress, not the Department of Homeland Security, the ultimate authority to determine if the border is effectively secure. It would also have included enhanced security measures, such as requiring a

To a remarkable degree, liberalism has been institutionalized as an official ideology, funded by your tax dollars. This editorial in Investors Business Daily explains, in shocking detail, how Obamacare is being used to fund Democratic Party operatives and drive Democratic Party enrollment: The Obama administration granted a whopping $910 million to California to set up its insurance exchange. That money is not for bandages, surgery, nurses and doctors to care for the sick. …Shockingly, the $910 million is slated for bureaucracy, including rich compensation packages for exchange employees ($360,000 a year for the executive director) and contracts for

The popularity of Obamacare has crashed to its lowest level in nearly two years, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll. Kaiser´s monthly tracking poll found that just 35 percent have a favorable view of the health reform being put into place Jan. 1 while 43 percent view it unfavorably. The favorability rating of Obamacare has been worse only once, in October 2011, when it fell to 34 percent. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is feeling the heat as potential GOP allies are now turning against his immigration reform bill. Republican colleagues who were previously viewed as possible “yes” votes are keeping their distance from the 1,075-page measure. On Wednesday, conservative activists ripped Rubio and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) — both sponsors of the bipartisan immigration measure — at a Capitol Hill rally. The crowd, which was protesting the bill’s effort to put millions of illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship, booed at the mention of Rubio’s name during the six-hour event.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
