NEW ORLEANS - The cause of a 34-minute blackout at the Super Bowl remains under investigation, but public records released Monday show that Superdome officials were worried about a power outage several months before the big game. An Oct. 15 memo released by the Louisiana Stadium & Exposition District, which oversees the Superdome, says tests on the dome´s electrical feeders showed they had "some decay and a chance of failure." Entergy New Orleans, the company that supplies the stadium with power, and the structure´s engineering staff "had concerns regarding the reliability of the Dome service from Entergy´s

Sounds like they had a well-known problem, and the extra load was bound to trigger it.

I wish I could remember where I caught it - probably linked on Lucianne earlier today - but there was a spectacularly amusing piece put out by somebody in New Orleans media (and/or power company management), lauding the dawn of a new ´green power´ age at last night´s game - how infinitely wonderful and bright the future was looking under the auspices of those skyrocketing power bills Obama promised...

Saturday Night Live could put a roomful of writers on that task and not come close to the level of amusement generated by that bit of ´environmental sanctimony´.

The only thing that could have made it any funnier was if they´d symbolically tossed a few thousand cats thru windmills.

We now return to our regular power generation facilities, courtesy of dead dinosaurs...

Well, how many points do they get for worrying about it? It might have been better to fix it. Or advise the nfl they had concerns so the event could have been held in a more modern city. One that wasn´t subject to occasional salt water inundations. Sheeesh.

Tonight on CBS they were blaming Craig Ferguson, apparently his horse, named Secretariat, peed on the main electric cable.

Thought I heard where someone was bragging about NO being the most eco friendly big city in the country. We´ll probably never get to the bottom of this because it involves a green energy scam they dont want to get out.

It´s just like Boeing´s dreamliner being sabotaged by lithium batteries somehow.

You can´t see your hand in front of your face in China because of the smog but the green wackos act like they don´t even exist. They don´t even accept nuclear or gas as non polluting energy sources. All they do is dream about a world powered by wind, solar and batteries, with no other acceptable options.

The New Orleans Superdome was touted as the greenest dome in the U.S. It shouldn´t be a surprise that lights go out. This is what the rest of us have to look forward to with this green BS - Brownouts.

How many billions of our dollars went to New Orleans to repair Katrina damage?

The Superdome was redone top to bottom and this is what we get.

Wonder where the money went! Ha ha ha.

The main thesis of "Atlas Shrugged" is playing out in front of our eyes with the exception of the magic motor. Decay of infrastructure, increase in regulations and an obtrusive government. With the continuing decline of society the only solution being more government and more regulation.

Ha! Entergy. A horrible utility company. Imbedded in NOLA. I wondered how long it would take for their name to appear in the news re the Super Bowl.

WASHINGTON — Stepping into a heated debate within the nation’s intelligence agencies, President Obama has decided that when the National Security Agency discovers major flaws in Internet security, it should — in most circumstances — reveal them to assure that they will be fixed, rather than keep mum so that the flaws can be used in espionage or cyberattacks, senior administration officials said Saturday. But Mr. Obama carved a broad exception for “a clear national security or law enforcement need,” the officials said, a loophole that is likely to allow the N.S.A. to continue to exploit security flaws both to crack

LAS VEGAS -- The Bureau of Land Management has announced it will stop the roundup of cattle owned by rancher Cliven Bundy. The BLM says the animals have been illegally grazing on public lands for 20 years. The BLM made the announcement Saturday morning, a week after rangers started gathering the animals from land near Gold Butte. The agency says it is concerned about the safety of its employees and the public. Earlier this week, BLM officers and supporters of the Bundy family were involved in a scuffle. Cliven Bundy´s son, Ammon Bundy, was tased twice by federal agents. Another woman said

In a profile of Press Secretary Jay Carney appearing in the magazine Washingtonian Mom, this photo of the loving family appears:(Snip for photo)Cute, isn’t it? But, as savvy Twitter users noticed almost immediately, the picture is photoshopped, and not very well at that. The right side of the book case is a mirror image of the left, which poses a slight problem. A problem I like to call “disembodied finger of a child floating in air”! It’s a common photoshop mistake:

The teens responsible for the mob violence in downtown Louisville last month were members of a gang of middle-school students, according to an FBI memo distributed to law enforcement agencies. The memo, which the FBI says was based on "unverified intelligence," says that the gang — "Young ´N Off That," or YNO, was organized last summer at Frost Middle School but spread to other schools, and that its members are "armed in a major way." The FBI memo also says there have been "rumblings" about the gang showing up in large numbers May 1 at the Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus Parade. Louisville

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively

In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come
