| Crime: Education officials in Newtown, Conn., site of the December school massacre that stunned the nation, have requested more armed police officers in schools — exactly the common-sense remedy IBD called for. Last month, in an editorial warning that the Obama administration´s gun-control measures won´t reduce gun violence, we noted that "sensible proposals for armed security and increased police presence at our schools are off President Obama´s agenda." The policymakers closest to the tragedy, however — whose constituents expect them to do something effective — say increased police presence is at the top of their agenda.

There´s the real world(Newtown)approach to solving a problem and the fictional (Washington) way. I think the answer is obvious.

Would much prefer a number of teachers in a school to volunteer for training with a reasonable stipend. Handgun or shotgun hidden in a locked cabinet with no one knowing who they are. A handgun on the person would eventually be seen by students and cause a problem.
A police officer on premises would be some deterrent but for some one planning an attack he could simply walk up to the officer pretending to ask for directions and kill him/her first. Then your back to square one while costing 30-40k a year. Bad idea.

I agree with #3. Concealed-carry (or on premises) teachers and administrators would provide the best security. We could call it the Second Amendment Solution.

RUSH: Folks, we are being told that Lois Lerner´s seemingly out-of-the-blue admission about the IRS tax-exempt waivers was carefully planned. The question that evoked her admission was planted as part of prepared strategy for the IRS to release this information to the public, and that´s according to the outgoing IRS commissioner, Steven Miller. He said it in testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee this morning.

RUSH: I am getting the sense that there is an effervescing rage in the country over what is happening. If you´re watching these hearings today, if you are listening to the media, I hate to say, "I told you so," but the media is circling the wagons around the regime. It was just yesterday and the day before that people eagerly called here and were sending me e-mails, thinking this was it. "The media is finally going to turn on Obama!" I said, "It´s never going to happen, not for real,"

Speaking at Ohio State University this month, Barack Obama urged students to pay no attention to those paranoid types who "incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity." Oddly enough, in recent days the most compelling testimony for this view of government has come from the president himself, who insists, with a straight face, that he had no idea that the Internal Revenue Service had spent two years targeting his political enemies until he "learned about it from the same news reports that I think most people learned about this."

Well Obama may have kept his makeup from running, but the public relations hole he´s digging for himself just got deeper. Of course, someone else is sure to get the blame for the incomparable insolence demonstrated by this clueless commander-in-chief when he imperiously summoned two young, Marine NCO´s to stand in the rain and hold umbrellas over his royal highness and Turkish Premier Erdogan. This pic and this one say it all. The military community, that is all those except the politically-correct, perfumed princes in the Pentagon, are genuinely ticked over this public

The commander in chief of the American armed forces today forced a violation of Marine Corps regulations, so he wouldn’t get wet. According to Marine Corps regulation MCO P1020.34F of the Marine Corps Uniform Regulations chapter 3, a male Marine is not allowed to carry an umbrella while in uniform. There is no provision in the Marine Corps uniform regulation guidelines that allows a male Marine to carry an umbrella. Nevertheless, during a press conference under a light drizzle with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan this morning, President Obama allowed the

Watching President Obama trying to dodge raindrops and responsibility yesterday reminded me of the moment when Dorothy pulls back the curtain and discovers that the Wizard of Oz is “just a man.” Stripped of his spell of mystery and power, the wizard is worse than mortal. He’s a fake. So it was with Obama in the Rose Garden. His performance was tired and trite, ordinary to the point of dull. His veneer of passion was so transparent that you could see him trying to summon his old-time magic by pushing the buttons

STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. Mr. Obama has done nothing of the kind.

The State Department, under Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, created an arrangement for her longtime aide and confidante Huma Abedin to work for private clients as a consultant while serving as a top adviser in the department. Ms. Abedin did not disclose the arrangement — or how much income she earned — on her financial report. It requires officials to make public any significant sources of income. An adviser to Mrs. Clinton, Philippe Reines, said that Ms. Abedin was not obligated to do so. The disclosure of the agreement that Ms. Abedin made with the State Department comes as her husband,

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

On Thursday´s NBC Today, in a desperate attempt to deflect from the scandals engulfing the Obama administration, co-host Savannah Guthrie wondered: "I read a headline yesterday that said Republicans see blood in the water. That they see a president who´s very vulnerable politically. Is there a danger that they will overreach?" Chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd agreed with the slanted premise: "There is. I mean, that´s what happened to Republicans in 1998 with Bill Clinton.

President Obama’s press conference in the rain was not a success, if by success, his supporters would mean an event which convinces anyone who doesn’t work for him that he’s getting ahead of the scandal deluge. The sight of a Marine holding an umbrella over his head only added to the weirdness of the event. So what did we learn? 1. He has full confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder, the man who purportedly recused himself (whenever) without putting it in writing (whatever). When asked about the untrammeled snooping on Associated Press reporters and editors,

“I look forward to taking some questions at tomorrow’s press conference,” President Obama said last night, after announcing the resignation of the acting IRS commissioner Steven Miller. The president scheduled a noon press conference today with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in honor of his visit. Reporters, however, found themselves waiting outside in the rain for Obama, who was 47 minutes late. Only New York Times reporter Mark Landler had an umbrella.
