| My middle-child brother David is a great guy and a thinker. He has worked full-time in a factory for years, but he also coached little league football for several years, growing to become commissioner of the County Youth Football League. David has noticed America´s cultural decline reflected in the attitudes of kids in his football programs -- no fear or respect for authority. David is non-political -- does not listen to talk radio or watch Fox News. Thus, he does not connect the cultural decline to politics.

This article gets right to the core of the challenge to Conservatives, how to reach the masses that have intentions for good but are clueless. The choices between philosophies of government are not straightforward or obvious. It is easy for progressives to demonize free enterprise as selfish. In most successful examples of it, a small group gets rich. But they are the people that have the ideas, take the risks, and do the work. The reality is, few in the general population are able and willing to do that. Further, huge numbers of people are hired for a variety of jobs at good wages. The head guy, who made it all happen, may make a million but the collective employees are paid billions.
It is almost impossible to be personally successful in business without making a lot of others better off as well, whether that is your intention or not. The system works automatically to the benefit of society.
AND the personal impact of being responsible for yourself are enormously beneficial to society. Responsible people seek out and fix problems, not wait for someone to rescue them. They are willing and capable of assisting those truly in need. They also foster the crucial structures and attitudes that support society because you cannot carry out business in chaos. Business is based on respectful and trusted transactions between willing individuals. Good business manners leads to a good society, a better culture.
But the article has no solution. That´s what we need.

A report released on Tuesday by the National Council on Teacher Quality finds that U.S. teacher training is “an industry of mediocrity” that produces teachers without a clue. “The results were dismal,” said Kate Walsh, president of the bipartisan research group. Walsh told Reuters that new teachers "don´t know how to teach reading, don´t know how to master a classroom, don´t know how to use data." (Snip) Several colleges attempted to thwart the study. Some even tried to block the Council from obtaining data about their teacher training programs.

Thanks to a John Podhoretz tweet (by the way, if you don’t follow him, you should. His Twitter feed is constantly engaging and insightful), I came across a horrifying, sad article by blogger and career advice columnist Penelope Trunk. It chronicles her two abortions — her first when she was in the midst of a professional volleyball career (it was relatively late-term) and the second when her post-volleyball career was “soaring.” Before the first abortion, she learned she was pregnant relatively late — 14 weeks in.

He didn´t think he would give a speech. For quite some time, Roy Costner IV was second among his classmates, and didn´t realize an extra class raised his grade point average enough for him to be the valedictorian of Liberty High School´s Class of 2013. But when the honor was bestowed on him, and he was asked to give the traditional valedictory speech, Costner didn´t want to waste this opportunity to acknowledge the most important influence in his life: his Christian faith.

During his radio show on Friday, Rush Limbaugh told his listeners, “I think abortion is at the root of so much that has and is going wrong in this country.” The conservative host went on to discuss that the reason why amnesty is essential to the liberal agenda is because abortion has, since Roe v. Wade in 1973, wiped out millions of potential taxpayers.
