Dear David: Conservatism
for the Masses

American Thinker, by Lloyd Marcus

Original Article

My middle-child brother David is a great guy and a thinker. He has worked full-time in a factory for years, but he also coached little league football for several years, growing to become commissioner of the County Youth Football League. David has noticed America´s cultural decline reflected in the attitudes of kids in his football programs -- no fear or respect for authority. David is non-political -- does not listen to talk radio or watch Fox News. Thus, he does not connect the cultural decline to politics.

Comments:
There´s a great ending to this story.

This article gets right to the core of the challenge to Conservatives, how to reach the masses that have intentions for good but are clueless. The choices between philosophies of government are not straightforward or obvious. It is easy for progressives to demonize free enterprise as selfish. In most successful examples of it, a small group gets rich. But they are the people that have the ideas, take the risks, and do the work. The reality is, few in the general population are able and willing to do that. Further, huge numbers of people are hired for a variety of jobs at good wages. The head guy, who made it all happen, may make a million but the collective employees are paid billions.

It is almost impossible to be personally successful in business without making a lot of others better off as well, whether that is your intention or not. The system works automatically to the benefit of society.

AND the personal impact of being responsible for yourself are enormously beneficial to society. Responsible people seek out and fix problems, not wait for someone to rescue them. They are willing and capable of assisting those truly in need. They also foster the crucial structures and attitudes that support society because you cannot carry out business in chaos. Business is based on respectful and trusted transactions between willing individuals. Good business manners leads to a good society, a better culture.

But the article has no solution. That´s what we need.

Awesome Lloyd! Good work and thanks for the example. I´ve seen it happen in my family too.
Perseverance, patience and kindness are the answer.

Mark Krikorian is tapping the earpiece of his glasses — into the center of his right eye. (Snip) In Krikorian’s world view, there is good immigration — the kind that happened long ago. And there is bad immigration — the kind that happens now. There are immigrants who melt into a place and let it melt into them, and there are immigrants who inhabit a place without allowing it to inhabit them. “America has outgrown mass immigration,” he says. Krikorian doesn’t control any votes in the immigration fight that is consuming Congress,

Study: U.S. Teacher Training ´Dismal´

A report released on Tuesday by the National Council on Teacher Quality finds that U.S. teacher training is “an industry of mediocrity” that produces teachers without a clue. “The results were dismal,” said Kate Walsh, president of the bipartisan research group. Walsh told Reuters that new teachers "don´t know how to teach reading, don´t know how to master a classroom, don´t know how to use data." (Snip) Several colleges attempted to thwart the study. Some even tried to block the Council from obtaining data about their teacher training programs.

Thanks to a John Podhoretz tweet (by the way, if you don’t follow him, you should. His Twitter feed is constantly engaging and insightful), I came across a horrifying, sad article by blogger and career advice columnist Penelope Trunk. It chronicles her two abortions — her first when she was in the midst of a professional volleyball career (it was relatively late-term) and the second when her post-volleyball career was “soaring.” Before the first abortion, she learned she was pregnant relatively late — 14 weeks in.

He didn´t think he would give a speech. For quite some time, Roy Costner IV was second among his classmates, and didn´t realize an extra class raised his grade point average enough for him to be the valedictorian of Liberty High School´s Class of 2013. But when the honor was bestowed on him, and he was asked to give the traditional valedictory speech, Costner didn´t want to waste this opportunity to acknowledge the most important influence in his life: his Christian faith.

Rush Limbaugh: Abortion at The

Breitbart Big Government, by Dr. Susan Berry    Original Article

During his radio show on Friday, Rush Limbaugh told his listeners, “I think abortion is at the root of so much that has and is going wrong in this country.” The conservative host went on to discuss that the reason why amnesty is essential to the liberal agenda is because abortion has, since Roe v. Wade in 1973, wiped out millions of potential taxpayers. The Democrat Party, Limbaugh said, has turned to amnesty as a means to ensure a “permanent underclass” in order to continue its image as the party of big government entitlements.

Colorado´s Black Forest fire is barely contained at latest reports and has killed at least two people while consuming hundreds of homes and other structures and forcing the evacuation of more than 38,000 people, but a dozen other significant fires are also burning across the country, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla, D-Calif., believes that if her Assembly Bill 926 passes, researchers will be able to pay egg donors as they develop medical advances that can help all women. To her, the bill is an issue of simple fairness -- gender equity, really. Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Politico’s Playbook has an excerpt from a new Ryan Lizza piece from the New Yorker that is not yet online. It contains a passage on the back-and-forth between labor and the Chamber that has a quote from a Rubio staffer that is going to raise eyebrows, to say the least: “There are American workers who, for lack of a better term, can’t cut it. There shouldn’t be a presumption that every American worker is a star performer. There are people who just can’t get it, can’t do it, don’t want to do it. And so you can’t obviously discuss that publicly.” Here is the entire context:

Iran is preparing to send 4,000 troops in to Syria to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the wake of America´s announcement it will be providing ´military aid´ to the country´s Muslim rebels. President Barack Obama made the pledge earlier this week after the U.S. claimed it found ´conclusive evidence´ Assad´s regime has used chemical weapons against the rebel forces--which includes the most extreme Sunni Islamists--and has called for Britain and France to back the move. While Britain hasn´t made a guarantee either way as yet, more than 350 Royal Marines are being sent to Jordan

Is Marco Rubio, R-Fla., getting played by Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.? During his interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl this morning, Rubio didn’t even seem to understand what that meant. “Are you being played by the Democrats?” asked Karl. “Is Chuck Schumer playing you?” “I don’t — I quite frankly, I don’t even know what that means,” Rubio replied. “Is he using you?” Karl continued. “Is he using you to try to accomplish something that the Democrats want and is not — not a conservative bill?” Rubio responded that immigration reform was a bi-partisan issue that “all Americans
