It shouldn´t have been surprising that the Senate hearings to confirm Chuck Hagel as the next secretary of defense ended up shedding light on much more than this nominee and his qualifications. The trumpets had sounded long in advance on the main claim for Mr. Hagel—i.e., that his experience as an enlisted man, a combat veteran, had endowed him with special expertise not given to others, on matters of war, on our nuclear capacity, the size of our defense budget, a capacity to take the measure of Iran and North Korea. Mr. Hagel had come by this wisdom,
All of Obama´s appointments are figureheads who get their advice from burnt out 70´s radicals.A person with their own ideas or expertise wouldn´t be allowed anywhere near these jobs. The whole point of Obama is to turn everything traditional on it´s head.
If you ask any tough questions to these clowns, you´ll get a stinging rebuke from the WH which is a form of intimidating another branch of government.Just like obama intimidating he SC on obamacare while the decision was still in progress.
Lets be clear......those who vote to confirm Hagel have more desire to protect Obama from looking bad than they have a desire to protect the USA and maintain good leadership for our troops put in harms way.
I can´t pay any more attention to this. Kerry and Hagel are both affronts to our military, Purple Hearts or not, yet they will both be confirmed.
I am watching closely, however, Kyle´s murder. His anti-Obama feelings were well known. Hopefully the government doesn´t drag out giving us details. Some military people are waiting for the PTSD shoe to drop. They´re afraid this will be used for Obama´s anti-gun push. Remember Big Sis´s warning early on about returning vets.
#4 Good point. One could go to any VFW in this country and find someone better qualified to run the pentagon. But Obama wants Hagel. Why? Because he´s the perfect stooge and fall guy should he need one.
The very idea that a former enlisted man has such vast knowledge about world affairs and military actions and reactions etc. is laughable. I am a former enlisted man (Air Force) and I can tell you that most enlisted men, especially ground troops, are more involved in staying alive than naval gazing. In fact, how many former enlisted men would one have entrusted to plan and execute the invasion of Normandy? Officers that have reach field level rank are usually sent to War College where they are taught the history of warfare and what works and what doesn´t. No enlisted man does. Neither do Senators and/or former Senators.
Sadly, as Ms. Rabinowitz says, Hagel will most likely be confirmed and the Republican won´t do a thing to stop it. Unlike dims, they don´t seem to have to courage to fillibuster a nomination they don´t like. And this is one that the nominee is clearly unqualified for the office.
The confirmation of Chuck Hagel as Sec of Defense will prove what a shameful embarrassing bunch of partisan jackals run the government. Couldn´t agree more with #4. This is about shielding the unfortunate freak of nature we have in the WH. Just look at the heaping mess our foreign policy is in and they can´t say enough about how great Hillary was. These people are truely despicable.
Obama presupposes he´s smarter than those who disagree with him, or calls themselves conservative, yet the truth is he´s hateful, evil, and not so bright.
We know he´s a Socialist/Communist fraud. We know he´s a pathetic liar. We know he paid to hide his background AND the truth about his birth. We know he is deliberately destroying America economically, socially, and industrially. We know he is circumventing the rule of law and ignoring the Constitution. We know he is building up his Muslim Brotherhood, while hating America´s closest world ally, Israel. We know the other branches of government are playing pocket-pool while Obama burns America down and no one seems to have any power, ability, or gumption to do anything about it. We´ve seen Obama bow to foreign leaders, give the Queen of England a personalized Ipod, send the bust of Winston Churchill back to England, and pronounce corpsman as "corpseman." (Hey, Obama, the p and s are silent, you ignorant twit!)
All this and he thinks he can run our lives with his tyranny while trying to convince us it´s for our own good? He´s trying to destroy us and the media is complicit in this whole nasty charade!
Not only could you "shoot your eye out, kid," you might also go to jail for owning that BB gun in certain states. New Jersey and other jurisdictions make little or no distinction between Daisy´s classic Red Ryder BB gun immortalized in the film "A Christmas Story," and real guns. They must be registered and are subject to the same laws as any firearms. “In all honesty, kids who are charged are looking at mandatory jail time,” said New Jersey attorney William Proetta, adding that under the state’s Graves Act, a conviction could lead to prison time. “The only defense is to
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced this morning that nearly 365,000 Americans had signed up for private health insurance under Obamacare. The vast majority came from 14 states running their own insurance exchanges, while 137,000 came by way of HealthCare.gov, the much-faulted federal Web site that handles enrollment for the remaining states. But amid the rush to enroll as many people as possible by the Dec. 23 deadline, there’s a huge caveat that isn’t getting much public attention: For coverage to take effect on Jan. 1, enrollees must pay their first month’s premium on time. (The deadline varies
If you like your selfie, you can keep your selfie. Period. Unless, of course, you’re Barack Obama, in which case, you better delete it from your smartphone pronto, unless you’d like to spend the next three or four months dining on hot tongue and cold shoulder. You didn’t need a fake interpreter from an old Woody Allen movie to translate Moochelle Obama’s body language. So there they were, Barry, British Prime Minister David Cameron and the hot-wife leader of Denmark, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, hamming it up like it was the 25th anniversary reunion of the Choom Gang. Some Krazy Kids, horsing around, waiting for
The British security firm that failed to protect the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, from a terrorist attack a year ago that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens was told by the State Department to avoid the media, the latest example of stonewalling over the attack. In newly uncovered emails received by the public watchdog group Judicial Watch, State was notified that the firm, Blue Mountain Group, was being pressed for answers about the surprise attack. Instead of giving the group the green light to answer the media, State ordered the firm to go into hiding. “Thank you so much for informing us about
Regularly scheduled elections are a hallmark of the American political system. In 18th-century Britain, the monarch could call new elections on a whim, and our Founders saw in that arrangement a seed of tyranny. The Constitution they designed requires elections for Congress every two years, and the next such elections are less than a year away. This is good news for conservatives as they continue to oppose the Obama administration. This president has been tremendously helped by having a Democratic-controlled Senate for his first five years in office. Harry Reid’s masterful, if not entirely virtuous, use of Senate rules has
The gangster state of North Korea became a nuclear power in 2006–07, despite lots of foreign aid aimed at precluding just such proliferation — help usually not otherwise accorded such a loony dictatorship. Apparently the civilized world rightly suspected that, if nuclear, Pyongyang would either export nuclear material and expertise to other unstable countries, or bully its successful but non-nuclear neighbors — or both. The United States has given billions of dollars in foreign aid to Pakistan, whose Islamist gangs have spearheaded radical anti-American terrorism. Ever since a corrupt Pakistan went nuclear in 1998, it has been able to extort such
After three months and more than 50 phone calls, John Gisler gave up on buying coverage through HealthCare.gov. Gisler wanted to purchase a plan for his 45-year-old son, who has a rare degenerative condition affecting his coordination and speech. His current coverage through Utah’s high-risk insurance pool plan ends Dec. 31. By that time, the Obama administration expects enrollees to transition into health plans sold through the new health-care law. But so far, Gisler hasn’t succeeded in purchasing coverage -- but not for a lack of effort. “We’ve had three separate applications that failed to make it through,” Gisler says. “I have a
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
President Obama’s job approval among American voters has dropped to negative territory with just 38 percent voicing their approval versus the 58 who says they disapprove, according to a national poll released Tuesday by the independent Quinnipiac University. That is one percent less than the 39% who said they approved of him in last month’s poll. The majority of the 2,692 registered voters the University in early December said that the president is not honest and trustworthy. When asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?,” respondents gave Obama lackluster ratings
