| Paris - On January 31, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, France´s minister of women´s rights, made it officially impossible to arrest a woman for wearing trousers in the French capital. The law required women to ask police for special permission to "dress as men" in Paris, or risk being taken into custody. In 1892 and 1909 the rule was amended to allow women to wear trousers, "if the woman is holding a bicycle handlebar or the reins of a horse." Interesting how women are allowed to cross-dress without being stared at etc. Put a man in a dress and suddenly people are making derogatory comments, including the very same women who cross-dress.
There´s definitely a double standard. Women created the double standard.

Thank goodness because now we do not have to see their unshaven hairy legs.
During college, studied some time in Paris and none of my French dorm mates even remotely shaved - worse they hardly bathed. And, I was considered weird.

I spent a considerable time in Paris, including an entire summer & never once was bothered by French police about wearing pants.
The French love the past, though. This is kind of funny & apparently goes back to the French Revolution.
Makes Georges Sand, who effected the Amazon Look, even more of a rebel.

New York - Police say a gunman used anti-gay slurs before fatally shooting a 32-year-old man in New York City´s Greenwich (GREN´-ich) Village. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Saturday that the shooting, which occurred just after midnight, appears to have been a hate crime. "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men.
