| Phil Mickelson held off a last-day charge by fellow American and playing partner Brandt Snedeker to end a week of scintillating golf with a four-shot triumph at the Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona on Sunday. Left-hander Mickelson birdied three of the last six holes to close with a four-under-par 67 at the TPC Scottsdale, completing a wire-to-wire victory with a record-tying 28-under total of 256 to clinch his 41st PGA Tour title. The 42-year-old Californian, who never relinquished his grip after taking control of the tournament with a stunning first-round 60, joined Arnold Palmer, Gene Littler and Mark Calcavecchia

The putt Phil made in hole 7 today was fantastic, on the green, off into the fringe, down the hill, right in the middle.
Johnny Miller shot off his big mouth when he said Mickelson´s comment about taxes was a "double bogey." It appears Miller is a dim which is the final insult from that gas bag.

#5: Probably the first "bank shot" I´ve ever seen in golf. How can you have any hope to catch Phil when a putt like that goes in... "somehow"?
Also, I saw three putts do 180-degree lip-outs like Phil´s next-to-last putt in the first round. I wonder if their hole-cutter makes a legal profile? [Just kidding!]

The formal name of the tournament is the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
That´s too bad.
But Phil had an impressive win.
And the player who was supposed to challenge him, Harrington, folded like a cheap irish suitcase.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.
