I happen to have been in Belle Glade once. I was appalled by the place. It looks poor, desperate and potentially dangerou, the kind of place you want to drive out of and never go back. Whici is what we did.

The most interesting storyline, to me, in today´s super bowl, has to do with two black players, each adopted by a white family, each an outstanding person and player.
The SF QB, black, born to a black teenaged single mother, was adopted at birth by a white couple from Wisconsin. (They moved to California when he was four years old.) He excelled, academically, and in sports.
The offensive tackle for the ravens, subject of the movie Blind Side, was adopted by white parents in mississippi when he was in 8th grade, and was taken out of the ghetto and away from a drug addicted single mother.
Why is race important to this story?
Because in 1973, the National Association of Black Social Workers issued a policy statement that black children should never be adopted by whites. (The federal law about adoptions, pushed through as part of the Contract With America, in the 1990s, forbade that, but many adoption agencies continued the policy.)
If that policy had been applied to the two players, above, each might have been dead by now, trapped in a ghetto, a crime ridden, drug soaked ghetto.

Lakerman, I have witnessed this as well. My dear friend and her husband have adopted 3 beautiful children. Their 4th attempt at adoption was a disaster. They received their 4th child only weeks after she was born to a drug addicted single woman. They nursed this little angel back to health and strength for 7 months. When the birth mother discovered that they were white she fought tooth and nail to have her removed from my friends home. The crack addict won. The baby that they raised as if she were their own flesh and blood was moved to a "more appropriate african american home." They were forbidden to even see the child. Needless to say they are still heartbroken.

Attorney General Eric Holder personally signed off on the warrant naming Fox News journalist James Rosen a “possible co-conspirator” in violation of the Espionage Act, Michael Isikoff reported yesterday. Which is sort of awkward, because Barack Obama also yesterday told the country (the whole country) that he didn’t want to criminalize reporting, and that he was going to ask his Justice Department to make sure not to do that anymore. Rosen wasn’t charged. In truth, the government never really intended on charging him. (Snip)That’s the scandal: That the government could charge a journalist with, effectively, spying, simply for reporting.

Amid catcalls from a Leftist heckler too blitheringly stupid to understand her dream was coming true, President Obama yesterday declared his intention to end the War on Terror — not quite 12 years since the 9/11 attacks. In what may have been the most important speech of his presidency, Obama said he would ask Congress to join him in efforts to “refine, and ultimately repeal,” the Authorization to Use Military Force passed three days after 9/11. In other words, he intends to write the War on Terror out of US law. “This war, like all wars, must end,” he said.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
