Four years ago, Barack Obama’s widely praised retention of Republican Bob Gates was done to reassure Washington of a bipartisan and competent continuity at Defense in difficult times. In contrast, the deliberately provocative nomination of Republican Chuck Hagel is meant to remind Washington that no longer will there be either bipartisanship or continuity, but rather a radically new direction at Defense. Senator Hagel in his testimony at times seemed genuinely befuddled and sorely confused about his own past contradictory statements, his current incoherent beliefs, and the very policy of the administration he is to serve. In political terms,
FTA: The result is that with Kerry, Brennan, and Hagel we have a much different national-security trinity from Clinton, Petraeus, and Panetta — though one far closer to the now unbound second-term visions of Barack Obama.
There you go. The complete explanation for why we´re seeing these absurd nominations of mind-numbing incompetents. It´s because they echo or reinforce the now unbound second-term visions of Barack Obama. Revenge.
Maybe the GOP should just merge with Lukid and be done with it. VDH usually has intelligent things to say, but this time he´s joined the hound dogs in the treeing of a raccoon. Bunch of idiotic barking ensues. Rock bottom for the GOP still not in sight.
Hagel will only be a figurehead if he is confirmed. He´ll assume Hillary´s role of wasting massive amounts of Air Force jet fuel by flying to an endless number of countries for reasons never quite clear. If an actual crisis occurs, Obama will dispatch a more trusted "regional specialist" to the area.
Hagel´s real role will be as the Republican who stripped our military of men, weapons, especially our ever smaller nuclear deterrent, and bases. Won´t be Obama´s fault, but the Republicans.
#6 It´s long past fault finding now. The victors write the history books and in a few years all us geezers who remember when the U.S. stood for liberty and justice will be dead. The past will be altered to show how vile America was and why we had to be reduced to third world status and our progeny won´t even know what hit them.
Bread and circuses then / cell phones and video games now. Same difference, same result -- going from a Republic to a Dictatorship.
For me the most troubling part of Hagel´s pathetic show before the Senate Committee was his statement about not being named Secretary; and establishing Pentagon policy. Apparently, and admission that he was to simply forward on WH Policies and not originate the same.
It is scary that a numb-nutz would be steering our Military establishment in precarious times, while working with reduced budgets. Already, the Pentagon has cut our Service Personnel in the field back to TWO hot meals a day while in Combat Zones. Two of the most important things a Soldier wants is a Hot Meal and Mail. (Next is a RTD to get back home.) Not important objectives to Zippy who gets all he wants and is catered to his every whim; to the admitted cost of $1.4 BILLION BUCKS a year!
On top of everything else, I hear or read the other day that the Republican Senators probably won´t attempt to fillibuster Hagel´s nomination. For fear of something, I can´t remember what. Gutless as always. We know darn well if the tables were turned, the dims would fillibuster in a heartbeat.
Hagel will be Obama´s yes man at the Pentagon, as Obama sets out on a progressive plan to transform the DOD to the point where the USA will no longer have the strategic military expeditionary capabilities to get involved in future foreign wars. That is not good at a time that potential adversaries are modernizing their military capabilities.
The British Empire almost destroyed itself and much of the rest of the world when its prime minister Neville Chamberlain adopted a policy of appeasement toward Hitler in the 1930s.
Now the leader of the American Empire has adopted a similar weak and self-destructive policy, as the appointment of Chuck Hagel officially demonstrates.
However, this time other countries, particularly Israel and France, have decided not to stand by and let themselves be destroyed also, and have begun to take action against al-Qaeda and Syria.
This means America is becoming so irrelevant it hardly makes any difference anymore who our Secretaries of Defense and State are.
So let the photo ops of Barack Obama, John Kerry and Chuck Hagel meeting with Mr. Ahmadinajad and the Iranian mullahs go forward. And let them announce ´´Peace in Our Time.´´ But no matter what they might say, if Israel decides it doesn´t want Iran to have nuclear bombs, it won´t have them.
Alicia Keyes covered it at Obama´s Coronation..er, His Inaugural ...as she sang this song she wrote for the occasion...about our Monarch King Obama...and his plans to "burn it down" destroy America on behalf of the real racists like Keyes, Beyonce and her hate spewing husband...who will stop this evil? Who will stand up to him and call him out...His Attorney General drank of the same poison...
Below are a portion of the lyrics to the song which Alicia Keyes sang for Obama and guests at his Inaugural:
He’s got both feet on the ground / and he’s burning it down/ got his head in the clouds and he’s not backing down/
Obama’s on fire / Obama’s on fire / He’s walking on fire / Obama’s on fire / Everybody stares as he goes by / Because they can see the flames in his eyes / Watch him as he lights up the night / Everybody knows that Michelle is his girl / Together they run the world / And we gon’ let it burn, baby, burn, baby…
Last month in San Francisco, President Obama called on Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform. His speech was novel in many respects: The president used the backdrop of a community center in Chinatown to remind voters that immigrants are racially diverse. Also, for the first time in prepared remarks, the president signaled that he would consider a piecemeal approach to immigration reform long favored by Republican leaders in the House of Representatives. What got the most attention, however, was an unscripted exchange between Obama and Ju Hong, an undocumented UC Berkeley graduate who interrupted the president, calling on him to use
No matter how you spell it, ice is a four letter word Friday. Just ask folks living anywhere from Texas to Tennessee. Those areas are in the bulls eye of a treacherous ice storm, threatening to coat everything in its path with up to an inch of frozen water. Ice is slippery, but also heavy. It tends to bring down tree limbs and power lines when accumulations get thick. In Tennessee, Memphis Light, Gas and Water has 426,000 customers and is ready for the worst. "MLGW employees have been monitoring this winter storm situation and we have all of our
U.S. authorities have charged 49 Russian diplomats and their spouses with conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, alleging that they stole $1.5 million from the American government via a years-long Medicaid scam. According to a criminal complaint made public today, the former and current diplomats lied about their income and citizenship status in order to qualify for the health benefits, which they used towards pregnancy care, births, and post-natal medical needs. They were also charged with conspiracy to steal government funds and make false statements relating to health care matters, reports the Associated Press. The complaint notes that medical costs associated with
Seduced and then disappointed by a hipster who turned out just to be another solipsistic boomer, now chastened yet still hopeful for change (if no longer swept away by the promise of Hope and Change), young Americans are ready to ditch Barack Obama. Things had been getting rocky for a while, but seeing the dawning of the Age of Obamacare in its full glory seems to have been the final indignity. The young will of course never acknowledge that maybe their old-fogey parents were right all along, but they do understand that what they thought was going to be a
John Dramani Mahama, who was in the African National Congress with Nelson Mandela, remembers what it was like when Prisoner No. 46664 came out of jail: Freedom on the African continent was a reality for which we were willing to fight. Nevertheless, I think we’d resigned ourselves to the likelihood that Mandela would remain a prisoner until his death, and South Africans would not experience equality until well after our lifetimes. Then on Feb. 11, 1990, the miraculous happened; Mandela was released. The world was spellbound. We wondered what we would do if we were in his shoes. We all waited for
President Obama’s message for the coming year is going to be a renewed focus on “income inequality.” Or as Bloomberg News puts it: Obama Decries Income Gap That Has Widened on His Watch One of the president’s agenda items on this is raising the minimum wage. President Obama backs a proposal from Democratic members of Congress to raise it to $10.10 per hour. On that front, fast-food workers around the country are walking out on the job and holding protests today, with one Detroit fast-food employee arguing his $7.40 per hour constituted “slave wages.” Rallies and protests are scheduled in
It’s not the voters who hate Obamacare the most who are going to matter in next year’s elections. It’s the independents who frequently side with Democrats but could, if propelled by a distaste for the health care law, take a serious look at the GOP in 2014. And on this front, Democrats have a big problem with one of their most crucial constituencies—white women. Polling provided to National Journal by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that white women have soured considerably on the law, especially in the month since its botched rollout. The skepticism runs especially deep among blue-collar women,
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
