Monticello — State police and White County law enforcement arrested a man Saturday after finding his mother and 7-year-old sister stabbed at a Monticello home. At about 1:23 a.m. Saturday, Indiana State Police, Monticello Police and the White County Sheriff´s Department responded to a 911 call about possible stabbings at 5642 E. Richey Park, Monticello. Police allege that David Scott Rodenbarger, 20, stabbed his mother, Michelle Haskins, 41, and his half-sister, Jillian Haskins, 7, all whom resided at the above address, for unknown reasons. Michelle was able to make the 911 call before
Comments: Evil lurks everywhere, even in this small town 2 hours South of Chicago and 1 1/2 from Indianapolis, where the mayor touts life away from big city pressures...
Perhaps that is the case #1, but it also shows that evil is being perpetrated everyday, all day, around the country with a variety of weapons being used. We can fill this site with a daily crime report from around the country. I get the point that the murder rate in Chicago is a national disgrace, but would appreciate more articles about that inexcusable TREND instead of a daily diet of dozens of local crime stories...
#2 raises a valid point - one that is basically left untouched by ´media´ in reporting on violence in the ´modern´ era...
Growing up in America in the latter half of the last century - the country was flat out *awash* in both guns - and ´gun´ programming. No self respecting kid was w/o a set of ´six shooters´ by the birthday of the same number - the *three* networks all carried more cowboy shoot ´em ups than commercials, and there was no shortage of WWII, Korean and early Vietnam ´weaponry´ in the hands of the public - quite a few of ´em vets...
Yet until Charles Whitman decided to go for quantity over quality - American psychos were strangely absent. One simply did *not* hear stories of ´mass killings´...
The only ´equipment change´ we´ve seen over that last half century - is an *institutionalized* devaluation of life, and an obsession with not just violence - but ´how many graphic pieces of body can we put in one movie explosion´ violence. Oddly, everyone Roy Rodgers ever shot - just died of shock. Not a drop of blood was ever shown. Now, if the eyeballs don´t fly out, it´s not a good shoot...
It ain´t the hardware - it´s the software - as in - between the ears. We - as a society - are producing some sick puppies out there...
While this is a tragic occurrence, will the Democrats now bang their desk for "knive control" and "registration of all knives"- another article today noted 7 individuals stabbed, elsewhere - an epidemic of stabbings that should make officials very aware that it is not only guns that kill- I´ll bet there were more traffic fatalities in the U>S> last week than death by weapons- (excluding Chicago, of course, where mayhem is the rule, not the exception ) -
We need crazy people control. We had it for almost 200 years, then the Republicans (to save money) and the Democrats (to advance social equality) closed down the control system. No thoughtful country would do that, ergo, Americans ain´t too swift.
Another senseless assault knife killing. We must ban all assault knives with 4 or more serrations.
With a population of over 300 million, even a 0.5% potentially violent insanity level means 1.5 million possibly dangerous individuals. Individuals who could exhibit violent tendencies for 30 to 40 years of their lives. We lack the resources and the legal system to identify and hopefully treat so many individuals, especially before they harm others. Presents an enormous challenge for our country.
The 0bama & the dem pols´ statist policies result in the theft of America´s promise to, ´´...insure domestic tranquillity!´´ None of the current statist pols are addressing the immediate concerns facing American citizens, but instead that monopolistic party displays tunnel-visioned focus on their own lefty/lib blueprint for changing the USA into something-or-other unrecognizable!
Please stop the talk about banning knives. You may give our government ideas. Britain already has stupid knife laws. A female chef got arrested and charged because she was carrying her chef´s knife to work. The Brits have let the politically correct nutjobs take over their country.
Monticello, Indiana is a lovely little town, and the home of Indiana Beach on Lake Shaefer. My parents lived just outside of town for years during their retirement. Not the kind of place where murder is taken lightly.
The victim in an early morning shooting in Walker County has been identified as Ronald Westbrook, a 72-year-old Alzheimer´s patient. Westbrook was shot outside the home of Joe Hendricks on Cottage Crest Court about 4 am. Westbrook lived about two-and-a-half miles from where he was shot and had apparently wandered away from home. Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said Hendricks has not been charged. However he said the investigation continues and did not rule out the possibility of charges in the future. The sheriff said Hendricks heard a suspicious sound outside the house and called 911.
The sister of a U.S. marine stabbed to death by a British man in Thailand said she hopes ´someone kills him slowly and painfully in prison´ as the killer was today jailed for 25 years. Lee Aldhouse, 30, from Birmingham, known as ´Pitbull´ in Muay Thai kickboxing circles, pleaded guilty to the murder of 23-year-old Dashawn Longfellow in an attempt to avoid execution or life in jail. (Snip) Aldhouse admitted murdering Mr Longfellow, a decorated veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, after a fight in a bar in the seaside resort of Rawai, on southern tip of the island
George Zimmerman was arrested Monday after he cocked and pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend, shattered a glass-top table then pushed her out of the house and barricaded himself inside after she ordered him to move out, according to the Seminole County Sheriff´s Office. He surrendered peacefully a few minutes later and was hauled off to jail, where he was being held without bail on domestic violence and aggravated assault charges. It was the second time in three months that the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer, who was acquitted of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, was handcuffed after being accused of domestic
A Georgia restaurant owner has been ordered to remove the patriotic flags flying above his eatery, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Darren Miller, owner of CJ’s Hot Dogs in McDonough, was cited on Friday by a code enforcement officer for flying flags above his restaurant that honor the military. The restaurant, Fox 5 reports, is dedicated to police officers, firefighters and those serving in the military and Miller says it’s his right to pay tribute to each group -- both inside and outside his restaurant. Three months ago, Miller put up the American flag, the Georgia state flag and banners for every
During an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl for “This Week,” Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker — while offering praise for his GOP colleagues — dismissed Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Rand Paul, Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Paul Ryan as the ideal 2016 Republican presidential nominee. “I think it’s got to be an outsider. I think both the presidential and the vice presidential nominee should either be a former or current governor, people who have done successful things in their states, who have taken on big reforms, who are ready to move America forward,” Walker responded when asked by Karl to
Moscow - A Boeing 737 airliner crashed on landing in the Russian city of Kazan on Sunday, killing all 50 people on board, the Emergencies Ministry said. The flight from Moscow´s Domodedovo airport was making a second attempt to land and exploded when it hit the runway, killing all 44 passengers and six crew on board. US Secretary of State John Kerry is to visit Israel on Friday to discuss the Iranian nuclear talks and peace with the Palestinians, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. Speaking to his ministers, Netanyahu said he would also discuss the Iran talks with French President Francois Hollande, who arrives in Israel later on Sunday, as well as with Russian President Vladimir Putin when he travels to meet him in Moscow on Wednesday. "We will also do that with the American Secretary of State of State John Kerry, who arrives here on Friday," the Israeli premier said, quoted by his office after
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
