| Monticello — State police and White County law enforcement arrested a man Saturday after finding his mother and 7-year-old sister stabbed at a Monticello home. At about 1:23 a.m. Saturday, Indiana State Police, Monticello Police and the White County Sheriff´s Department responded to a 911 call about possible stabbings at 5642 E. Richey Park, Monticello. This shows that people snapping is the problem and not the weapon of choice. The low optimism in this country is going to lead to a lot more cases like this.

Perhaps that is the case #1, but it also shows that evil is being perpetrated everyday, all day, around the country with a variety of weapons being used. We can fill this site with a daily crime report from around the country. I get the point that the murder rate in Chicago is a national disgrace, but would appreciate more articles about that inexcusable TREND instead of a daily diet of dozens of local crime stories...

#2 raises a valid point - one that is basically left untouched by ´media´ in reporting on violence in the ´modern´ era...
Growing up in America in the latter half of the last century - the country was flat out *awash* in both guns - and ´gun´ programming. No self respecting kid was w/o a set of ´six shooters´ by the birthday of the same number - the *three* networks all carried more cowboy shoot ´em ups than commercials, and there was no shortage of WWII, Korean and early Vietnam ´weaponry´ in the hands of the public - quite a few of ´em vets...
Yet until Charles Whitman decided to go for quantity over quality - American psychos were strangely absent. One simply did *not* hear stories of ´mass killings´...
The only ´equipment change´ we´ve seen over that last half century - is an *institutionalized* devaluation of life, and an obsession with not just violence - but ´how many graphic pieces of body can we put in one movie explosion´ violence. Oddly, everyone Roy Rodgers ever shot - just died of shock. Not a drop of blood was ever shown. Now, if the eyeballs don´t fly out, it´s not a good shoot...
It ain´t the hardware - it´s the software - as in - between the ears. We - as a society - are producing some sick puppies out there...
And the sooner we acknowledge *that* fact...

While this is a tragic occurrence, will the Democrats now bang their desk for "knive control" and "registration of all knives"- another article today noted 7 individuals stabbed, elsewhere - an epidemic of stabbings that should make officials very aware that it is not only guns that kill- I´ll bet there were more traffic fatalities in the U>S> last week than death by weapons- (excluding Chicago, of course, where mayhem is the rule, not the exception ) -

Neither knives or guns kill. It is the person wielding them that kills. So, let´s ban people!

We need crazy people control. We had it for almost 200 years, then the Republicans (to save money) and the Democrats (to advance social equality) closed down the control system. No thoughtful country would do that, ergo, Americans ain´t too swift.

Another senseless assault knife killing. We must ban all assault knives with 4 or more serrations.
With a population of over 300 million, even a 0.5% potentially violent insanity level means 1.5 million possibly dangerous individuals. Individuals who could exhibit violent tendencies for 30 to 40 years of their lives. We lack the resources and the legal system to identify and hopefully treat so many individuals, especially before they harm others. Presents an enormous challenge for our country.

Please stop the talk about banning knives. You may give our government ideas. Britain already has stupid knife laws. A female chef got arrested and charged because she was carrying her chef´s knife to work. The Brits have let the politically correct nutjobs take over their country.

Monticello, Indiana is a lovely little town, and the home of Indiana Beach on Lake Shaefer. My parents lived just outside of town for years during their retirement. Not the kind of place where murder is taken lightly.

Whatever else happens as a result of the multiple controversies that have engulfed the administration, one thing is clear: President Obama has failed to meet one of the most important goals he set out when he was first elected, which was to demonstrate that activist government could also be smart government. (Snip) As he put it then: “I think what you saw in this election was people saying, ‘Yes, we don’t want some big, bureaucratic, ever-expanding state. On the other hand, we don’t want a state that’s dysfunctional, that doesn’t believe in its mission, that can’t carry out

Richmond, Va.—Virginia´s activist conservative attorney general has won the Republican Party´s gubernatorial nomination by acclamation. At the GOP´s statewide convention, thousands of conservatives and tea party followers who dominated the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday roared their unanimous support for Ken Cuccinelli. He was unopposed for the nomination and is generally beloved by the tea party for his aggressive challenges to federal mandates. Cuccinelli is an abortion foe who was the first state attorney general to challenge President Barack Obama´s health care reforms in 2010. He faces former Democratic National Committee chairman and Clinton family protege Terry McAuliffe

The House voted to repeal ObamaCare on Thursday for the third time since Republicans took over the chamber in 2011. Only two Democrats sided with Republicans in the party-line 229-195 vote — Jim Matheson (Utah) and Mike McIntyre (N.C.). All Republicans voted in favor of repeal. This is the 37th time the House GOP has voted to repeal or defund at least part of the bill, but this latest bill will also not become law given Democrats´ control of the Senate. Still, many House Republicans had clamored for the bill from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) to be considered,

Back in March, The Wall Street Journal’s Damian Paletta profiled Daniel Werfel — then the controller for the White House budget office, and today the newly named acting commissioner of the IRS — focusing on his role in instructing the government how to deal with the sequester’s $85 billion in budget cuts. Here are some highlights from the profile: Known in the White House as “Danny,” Mr. Werfel graduated from Cornell University, earned a master’s degree in public policy from Duke University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina. His first 12 years in the federal

One of President Barack Obama´s re-election campaign co-chairmen used a leaked document from the IRS to attack GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney during the 2012 election, according to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM).(Snip)NOM discovered that when HRC published its confidential financial documents, it failed to conceal the source of the documents. “After software removed the layers obscuring the document, it is shown that the document came from the Internal Revenue Service,” NOM asserted in its April 2012 release. “The top of each page says, ‘THIS IS A COPY OF A LIVE RETURN FROM SMIPS. Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part

The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.
