| Three shootings in the city since Friday night have left a 21-year-old man dead and three people hurt, Chicago police said. The fatal shooting happened about 8:30 p.m., Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. Officers found the man in a hallway of a three-story apartment building in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue, in the Northwest Side´s Portage Park neighborhood. He was taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:58 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner´s office.

Why don´t the Chicago papers just wait until Monday morning and then give us the weekend total? It´s too easy to lose track with all these running totals. Yeah, and a monthly total on the first of each month would help us keep score. And an annual total on New Year´s Day.

I have noticed these Tribune stories regularly say "since Friday night" or something similar.
Because the stories appear Saturday morningI I am puzzled by the wording. Does it mean all the killings in Chicago occur after midnight?
I suspect the Tribune writer just pulls up the same story from the previous Saturday morning and inserts the new names, places, and times.

I Google-mapped "3900 North Central Ave., Chicago, IL, expecting to see a block of tenements, abandoned houses, etc., like Detroit. I was surprised to see a neat, well-kept block.

I don´t understand why Sege felt the need to publish the street address.
Is that a barbed wire fence behind that building ?
If some residents heard shots, why didn´t they report it ? It seems like the police weren´t called until someone tried to open the door.

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate."
