An Alabama man holding a terrified young boy hostage in an underground bunker might not be giving up any time soon, authorities said. Police were negotiating through a 4-inch ventilation pipe with the man, believed to be Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65,a Vietnam veteran and retired truck driver with a wicked temper and a history of threatening neighbors. Authorities were tight lipped about the conversation with Dykes but said the hostage situation, which entered its fifth day on Saturday, might stretch on for a while. Dykes is holding a 5-year-old boy identified as Ethan

I do not think that talking to a reporter is really what the old killer wants, I think he wants to kill the child and then blame it on the media and he should be shot the minute he comes out - what a despicable creature it is and I shudder to think that there are probably more of them all over the USA.

I think there is a movement to ban bunkers, particularly assault bunkers.

They´re not in a house, #3 - they´re in a very small (approx. 6´x8´) underground bunker.
"Sleeping gas" as you call it would likely kill both the boy and the nutbag, as that sleeping gas would eventually (soon) cause suffocation.

I can say it, #6, but if I wrote it here, I´d be banned.

I just pray God keeps the little boy safe.

Do any of our "hostage experts" remember the Chechen schoolhouse situation. The Russians pumped narcotic gas into the school. It killed half of the hostages. Some people watch too many "Mission Impossible" movies.

#8: that was actually the theater in Moscow. The Chechens took over a theater and held it for ... two days, IIRC. The Russians eventually pumped in gas and over two hundred hostages were killed by it. And those were adults.

The amount of gas needed to put the man to sleep would kill the child.

Keep praying.

Earlier he wanted to talk to a reporter. Wasn´t there one of those cops that had the cajones to go in?

And they want to disarm us? Geez Louise.

President Obama on Friday signed into law a bill authored by Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz that would bar an Iranian diplomat from entering the United States, but immediately issued a statement saying he won´t enforce it. Obama decided to treat the law as mere advice. "Acts of espionage and terrorism against the United States and our allies are unquestionably problems of the utmost gravity, and I share the Congress´s concern that individuals who have engaged in such activity may use the cover of diplomacy to gain access to our Nation," Obama said in his signing statement.

IJReview writer Kira Davis made the following post on her Facebook page earlier today: (FB entry) Many progressives often try to pit science against religion, but this excerpt from Dr. Carson’s latest piece at American CurrentSee gives a little more insight into how many Christians view science with respect to religion. In many ways, Carson echoes Einstein’s famous quote: “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” Do you agree with Carson?

It’s Good Friday. Time for the leftwing president to do something bad. Barack Obama just punted on the Keystone Pipeline, again, and some Democrats say they are angry at him. The Obama administration once again has punted on a final decision for the Keystone XL pipeline, announcing ahead of the holiday weekend it is extending a key review period indefinitely — a move that could push off a determination until after the midterm elections. Republicans, as well as red-state Democrats who want the proposed Canada-to-Texas pipeline approved, slammed the administration for the delay. Democrats even threatened to find ways to

A church in Grapevine, Texas, is getting into the Easter spirit this week by creating a giant chalk-portrait of Jesus Christ in their parking lot. Fellowship Church is led by Pastor Ed Young, who started the evangelical Christian church in 1990 with about 150 people in Irving. They now have 10 church campuses worldwide. His father is Dr. Ed Young, the head of Second Baptist here in Houston. According to church spokesman Andy Boyd, the 17,000-square-foot drawing of the face of Jesus took 700 volunteers over 9,100 man-hours to create. They also used 6,700 individual pieces of chalk and 125

Obama administration delays
Keystone XL decision, potentially

Washington Examiner (DC), by Zack Colman    Original Article

The Obama administration is extending the agency review period for the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline, potentially delaying the decision until after the November elections -- sparing President Obama a tough political decision in the process. A senior State Department official said agencies have stopped crafting comments because a Nebraska Supreme Court decision could change the pipeline route and, ultimately, the environmental, socioeconomic and cultural factors that went into the environmental review. The official did not directly answer a question whether an altered pipeline route would require a new environmental review.

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote in her forthcoming book that she was “hurt” and “angry” by 2012 reporting on her fraudulent claim to Native American heritage. “What really threw me, though, were the constant attacks from the other side,” Warren wrote in her book “A Fighting Chance.” “I would almost persuade myself that I was starting to get the hang of full-throttle campaigning and then — bam! Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively
