The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) might abandon a century of commitment to the moral development of youth. More than 100 million boys have taken the oath and learned self-reliance, patriotism, service and, most importantly, values through Scouting. After fending off attacks on these values from left-wing activists for decades, the organization on Monday raised a white flag in favor of political correctness — and corporate donations. Deron Smith, a national Scout spokesman, signaled the retreat: “Currently, the BSA is discussing potentially removing the national membership restriction regarding sexual orientation.” The statement came as a shock to

Comments:
It is stunning to me that they won with the Supreme Court confirming their First Amendment right that they didn´t have to insist on a politically correct message. They were one of the very few remaining organizations who have not been ruined by leftists. How very disappointing. They said they "might" abandon...maybe if there is enough backlash they will change their minds.

I understand not possibly wanting to hire scoutmasters who are gay, but I think it is wrong to hold it against the children who joined the scouts long before they understood their orientation. The state of BEING gay does not mean that one is engaging in any particular behavior. I know of plenty of heterosexuals who engage in all sorts of behaviors I consider morally offensive. The state of being does not mean anything with regard to morality. One can be gay and never have relations. Same with straights. Or one can be hetero and do all kinds of kinky stuff. My point is that there is too much bigotry against gays for no reason. Just as there are leftist gay radicals who are wrongly pushing excessive in-your-face agendas where they do not belong. I really believe that the radicals have made it harder for gays to be accepted by more people...Maybe this is the real leftist agenda--to marginalize another group that they really feel are "undesirables" under progressive ideology. I wouldn´t be surprised.

The powers that be don´t want boys to be men...hence everything´s gay, can´t shoot a gun or even pretend to shoot a gun, ban football...and every boy throw a baseball like Onama. And if they don´t like it, put ´em on medication. Tragic and sad both for boys who will eventually grow up (at least physically) and the women who will have this crop of losers to be married to...unless the men are homosexuals of course.

The boy scouts may have gay leaders, but they will soon have no boy scouts.

Sorry, #2, I´ve considered your argument and just don´t buy it. The "state" of being "gay" implicitly includes the practice of improper sex. The very status of being "gay" is a reference to homosexual activity. Otherwise, what is the point of being "gay"...?

Reply 6 - Posted by: Skyliner, 2/1/2013 11:09:54 PM     (No. 9153431)

#4. is quite correct. Whole Councils will bail out and form a new organization untainted by political correctness.

Homosexual activity is a morally depraved behavioral choice. If you want to be a Boy Scout then simply choose a straight lifestyle.

The Boy Scouts will go down the tubes pretty quickly if the religiously based groups that run the individual scout troops pull out of scouting. It seems like the national scout leaders are passing the buck and the political heat down to the little guys at the troop level, but that´s not showing much leadership, so why should those religiously based groups hang around?

Reply 11 - Posted by: squid, 2/2/2013 12:25:59 AM     (No. 9153481)

It will be interesting. One of the main supporters of the BSA is the Mormon Church. Practically every USA LDS congregation also supports a Boy Scout Troop. That means a lot of money is going to the BSA coffers from LDS congregation budgets.

If the BSA turns around and supports the Gay Movement, then either 1- they have assurances that the Mormon Church is NOT going to pull out, or 2- they are expecting something to replace the BIG financial hit if the Mormon Church decides to pull out.

How do they cull out the pedophile leaders--or are they exempt too?

This will mean more scouts being molested by gay Scout Masters, more lawsuits against the BSA, and even further erosion in the numbers of new scout enrollment.

Gays first, followed by pedophiles, followed by beastality lovers, followed by (name your pick).

The Boy Scouts are toast and just delivered their death knell.

Sadly a lot of kids will be pulled out of this fine organization. There are gay scouts everywhere so big deal. Now it is being rubbed in their faces. What´s next, sensitivity classes for scouts´ better understanding of every ethnic group in the country, bilingual scout manuals, scout diversity week? Some people have open marriages but they don´t have to talk about it. Why does the LGBT crowd want everyone to know their preferences? Political correctness is so out of control we will end up catering to every group who screams loudly enough. Just think of all the celebratory weeks we can have. Hallmark best be on their toes. In this matter I feel for the kids. Growing up is confusing enough.

The Lutheran Church split over this issue.

Reply 17 - Posted by: Muguy, 2/2/2013 7:33:16 AM     (No. 9153711)

I find this particularly troubling because there are a ton of scout troops supported and based in churches.

Is this some sort of backhanded move to remove any religious influence from the Boy Scouts, to secularize them due to following some agenda forced upon them by threats from the legal system even though the Supreme Court supported them?

To me this seems like another case of where they cannot control the issue without the threat of legal action. Why don´t the gays create their own group free from the restrictions to be "morally straight"?

The country we all grew up in is being taken apart daily... just another brick out of the wall...

I am a leader in a crew that had the ultimate good fortune to go on a trek at Philmont this past year. It was awesome. The one thing you find out there is that most of the troops, crews, etc. are sponsored by religious organizations who proudly announce that affiliation on their equipment trailers, neckerchiefs, t-shirts, patches, etc. If these organizations decide to drop scouting on account of this decision, the BSA soon won´t need to worry about corporate sponsorship because they won´t have sufficient dues and scout member contributions to continue.
Just a thought.

Aside from Scouting, it is sad to read so many ignorant people and hate mongers. I thought that only belonged to the low class liberals. I´m shocked to see alleged Conservatives being as bad or worse than some liberals.

I have a question. Some folks say that God does NOT allow children born with an anomaly that makes one gay. Good, then I challenge you to convince me, beyond any medical evidence that God also does not allow children be born with brain deficiencies, with arms or legs missing, or be born as a mongoloid, or two children joined together. Go to any Special Olympics Event and then convince me that God could also possibly allow a child to be born with a brain anomaly that may just possibly make them gay. No I don´t know either but no one has yet to prove their hatred of gays is medically valid.

In 2007, then Senator Barack Obama appeared on CNN´s Larry King Live and called on U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign. Obama said Gonzales was acting more like the president´s attorney than the people´s attorney and viewed himself as an "enabler of the administration." "Well, I voted against Alberto Gonzales confirmation for precisely the reason we are seeing now. I said this on the floor of the senate, that although he seemed to be a capable attorney, he seemed to conceive his role as being the president´s attorney instead of being the people´s attorney," Obama said.

House Speaker John A. Boehner on Thursday flatly ruled out chances of the House passing the Senate’s immigration bill, saying his chamber will debate its own bill instead. The Ohio Republican and his top lieutenants in the party issued a joint statement that seemed designed to tamp down some of the momentum behind the Senate bill, which emerged from a committee on a bipartisan 13-5 vote this week, and to stake out a House GOP position. “While we applaud the progress made by our Senate colleagues, there are numerous ways in which

During friendly questioning from Rep. Hank “I fear that Guam will capsize!” Johnson in Congress last week, Attorney General Eric Holder offered the following statement. In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material. This is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy. He made that statement before the facts about the sweep on Fox News’ James Rosen were known. Since then, it’s come to light that Holder himself approved the subpoena that, among other things, named Rosen as a criminal co-conspirator.

As the saying goes, scratch a liberal and you’ll find a tyrant underneath. NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is but the latest example. He shoved a very restrictive and ill-considered gun law through the state legislature in the dead of night. Among its flaws, the law criminalized police officers who tote firearms with magazines that hold more than seven rounds. Sheriffs around the state have objected to the law. Cuomo summoned them to the state capitol under what appears to be a false pretext, and used the meeting to threaten them into silence. Cuomo invited

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”
