Lord help me. For once I agree with the president. Football is entirely to rough and violent. In HS football, children still suffer broken necks, paralysis, and even death. Not to mention permanent damage to young joints. The physical injury continues into college ball and then into the NFL. Why?? Because the game means big $$$ comeing into schools and the owners of professional clubs.

Oh good grief. The number of boys injured seriously in football games in high school is many fewer than the number that would be injured if they were out driving around (which they would be) all those hours they spend in practice and games. And the lessons it teaches a boy far outweigh the risks. Been there, done that, know what I´m talking about.

i am not comfortable being a spectator for a gladiator sport.
no one cares about the thousands of football players with lifelong injuries from playing football.
my son used to play football (QB and linebacker) when he was young but i dont encourage him to play now that the boys are getting as big as mde. no upside to the sport and he plays baseball and basketball

Liberals are always out there trying to save people from themselves.
Obama made history this week by coming out in favor of allowing young women to fill direct combat positions in the military, while at about the same time opining that college and professional football are too dangerous for young men to play.

Football is a sissy game compared to the games played on the south side of Chicago.
The death count is much lower in football.
Does this mean Obama wouldn´t let his son play in Chicago? Isn´t that racist?

If you want to know how men became feminized read some of the comments here! Let the liberals be for sissifying males and let conservatives stand for personal responsibility. I have 6 sons from 19 down to 19 months (2 girls in between). 4 of the 6 play football from high school down to peewee, the 5th son (and oldest) opted for ice hockey.
Yes, we´ve seen some minor injuries but the discipline and the positive values they learn outweigh the risks. I wonder how many of our military men were football players or participated in a contact sport, I´d venture to say pretty high.

The current abusive conduct by the IRS is breathtaking in its audacity. When you look at last Friday´s testimony Acting Commisioner Steven Miller there is a clear disconnect -- the doesn´t think anyone did anything illegal, unconstitutional, or even wrong. Apart from a stark posture of arrogance and negative body language, he represents a very large group of people we need to worry about. This guy is beyond zealotry -- he has gone straight to certainty that he is right, his actions are justified and he can´t be touched. He´s like Obama´s buddy Bill Ayers

After running an errand at the Courthouse, I decided to pop into the Barrister Bar and Bistro for a quick bite. The place was packed and Charlie, the maitre d´, shrugged his shoulders apologetically. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

By all accounts, today´s college campuses grow more intolerant by the day. We move closer to the old Soviet Empire, where political dissidents risked the gulag for even joking about Marxism. In the U.S., however, the hate crimes concern anything that touches on race, ethnicity, gender differences, diversity, and sexuality (see here and here). Even an old-fashioned ethnic joke almost guarantees mandatory counseling. Skeptics need only look at the pervasiveness of campus speech codes, coerced sensitivity training, the mandatory injection of multicultural propaganda into courses, and other top-down censorship.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
