| Last year, with the authorization of Attorney General Eric Holder and the U.S. Department of Justice, after thousands of "Fast and Furious" assault rifles wreaked mayhem on both the U.S. border and inside Mexico, the Obama administration commissioned Janet ´Big Sis´ Napolitano to do whatever was necessary to help save American lives. Soon thereafter, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, overseen by Secretary Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security, seized 13,000 "unsafe hair dryers" from blowing their way across the border.

We read about DHS advising you to protect yourself with scissors and now this?? It would be very funny if their incompetence wasn´t so dangerous. It´s so unsettling.

Will we have to register our scissors (if they let us keep our scissors)? Won´t I need to pass a background check? Will the ones with decorative loops or zigzags be deemed "assault scissors" and be outlawed?

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

Bloodletting, in the form of firings, dismissals, resignation, and expulsions, is a tribal rite in political Washington. It is most often used by the powerful on anyone less powerful as a symbolic sacrifice. Steven Miller, the now former acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, is the latest victim of ritual sacrifice. This week the Obama White House demanded his resignation to demonstrate the president’s “anger” at news that the IRS targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status for added review and slow approval. Next, we’ll watch as Congress takes up the bloodletting knife.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate."
