I hope Ed Koch is reunited with his good friend Cardinal John O´Connor in heaven. I may not have always agreed with Hizzoner, but I always respected him.

He used to call Al Sharpton - "Al Charlatan".
He was also a true friend of Israel and remained so after his party was completely overtaken by the dark side.

When I think "colorful" I think Ed Koch. I´m going to miss his presence on the political scene. And he´s the same age as my father (we lost Mom before Christmas, of similar sounding complications as the mayor). It all makes me feel sad. Baruch dayan emet.

I liked Koch. He was a good interview and didn´t mince words. Certainly didn´t agree with everything he said or believed but I thought he was a more honest politician than most. RIP

Never been to NY, but I always imagined that Ed Koch represented all that was the best of NYC. Now Shumer and his ilk represent all that is the worst. RIP Mr. Mayor.

Ed Koch was colorful, but frankly he played better out of town. Understand that it was really all about Ed making headlines and his own self-importance. He endorsed a good man, Jim Turner, for the Weiner congressional seat basically to get noticed, held Obama up on the Israel support to get noticed just so Obama to kiss his ring--because any smart person knew Obama´s hate for Israel, etc. Being a good Village lib, any hip person knew he´d support Zero in the end no matter what. Did he campaign for Turner on the second round? No. He´d get on NY radio on Mark Simone or John Gambling and bloviate.

As to being mayor, Koch presided of the decline of NYC, particularly in his last 4 years 1986-90, and for the 4 year unmitigated disaster that was David Dinkins. (Bless you, Rudy!)

He was a Liberal but not a Leftist. Exchanged greetings with him on the Upper East Side a few years ago. RIP.

His foibles were outweighed by his sense of decency.

Was saddened recently when he said he knew Obama would backtrack on support for Israel.

Koch did support GW Bush over albore and kerry, IIRC.
