The U.S Government has issued a controversial video telling office workers what to do should a crazed gunman storms their building. Issued by Homeland Security, the video, called Active Shooter Situation: Options for Consideration, tells workers to flee if it is safe or find a hiding place if trapped should a gunman storm the building. The video even advises using scissors as a weapon to defend yourself if your are caught in the open. The four minute clip begins with chilling images of some of the most deadly public shootings in recent U.S history including the 2007 Virginia Tech Massacre

Comments:
Scissors! Of course! Let´s put them in glass cabinets, like the axes next to the fire hoses. /s

Yeah, why not also use your plastic butter knife from your take out lunch if you can´t find any scissors around???? Hey, I am all for fighting back but use a little sense and don´t be stupid. Of course, the real answer is, bring a GUN to a gunfight, idiots!!

Scissors ???

How many office workers have scissors in their desk? How about reaching for a bottle of "white-out". What year is this??

HS should advise "throw an iPod at the gunman". At least somebody would have one.

I´d prefer to tackle him with a Glock or an AR or other Personal Defense Weapon...and I´ll be man enough not to hide behind children while I´m doing it.

If this doesn´t show we have out of touch lunatics running the government,I don´t know what does. It´s hard to imagine what planet these people live on.Maybe the idea here is to wave the scissors around with the hope of deflecting the bullet.

"Sales of large desks surge as people look for place to hide in houses under a threat".

"For a limited time,buy a desk,get a free pair of scissors".

If attacked by a gun wielding madman, call 911 and then try and hit him with the phone.

I think I´ll hit the gun man with bullets from my 0.38 revolver that I open carry, this being NV (where I live).

So the bad guy can have guns and we the people can only have scissors. How about letting all the office workers carry what they feel is important to protect themselves. If the teachers at Sandy Hook were able to carry their own guns, this tragedy would have turned out much differently.

Maybe she will volunteer at the next big shooting (God forbid but we know it will happen) and make a video for us as she uses her scissors to stop the shooter.

So you can assault the shooter with scissors, and be shot. Or you can rush him en-mass and multiple people can be shot. Hey, I´ve got a novel idea, why don´t you shoot him before he shoots you!

Seriously, I read today that a shooter who wounded a 15 year old student was stopped and disarmed in an Atlanta School by an "ARMED" security guard. Whoever put out this video for Homeland Security should be ashamed of herself and should be fired for gross incompetence. Are you listening Big Sis?

Next big media push: Outlaw ´Dangerous´ ponted scissors! Only ´safety´ scissors with rounded tips (like we had in the 2nd grade) will be allowed to be sold.

People taking statins face an increased risk of developing diabetes, warn researchers. They found a 10 percent extra risk linked to taking simvastatin--the most commonly prescribed anti-cholesterol drug--which rose to 22 percent for those taking atorvastatin. Previous research into a suspected link with statins found a 9 percent rise in the chance of patients developing diabetes, but the new study looked at specific brands of drug. [Snip] Researchers identified 471,250 patients with no history of diabetes and who were newly treated with a statin, just over half were women and all were at least 66 years old. Statin therapy

The September 11 attacks on America was by no means the first act of terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. The 1993 World Trade Center bombings killed six, while the 1998 US embassy bombings of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, left 223 people dead. However, the scale, horror and repercussions of 9/11--2,996 people dead, the World Trade Center destroyed and the Pentagon attacked--set it apart as a seminal moment that changed the course of history. [Snip] Subsequently, Islamist terrorists attacked Madrid in 2004, London in 2005 and Mumbai in 2008, among many other lethal and devastating

At one bar, a mixture that included rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring was sold as scotch. In another, premium liquor bottles were refilled with water--and apparently not even clean water at that. State officials provided those new details Thursday on raids they conducted a day earlier as part of a yearlong investigation dubbed Operation Swill. Twenty-nine New Jersey bars and restaurants, including 13 TGI Fridays, were accused of substituting cheap booze - or worse--for top-shelf brands while charging premium prices. State officials would not say what establishment used the rubbing alcohol or which one used dirty water, or

Attorney General Eric Holder personally signed off on the controversial search warrant that identified Fox News chief Washington correspondent James Rosen as a ‘possible co-conspirator’ in violations of the Espionage Act and authorized seizure of his private emails, an unnamed law enforcement official has claimed. Rosen, who has not been charged in the case, was the target of a search warrant that enabled Justice Department investigators to secretly seize his private emails after an FBI agent said he had ‘asked, solicited and encouraged … (a source) to disclose sensitive United States internal documents and intelligence information.’ The reporter´s emails were

The far right English Defence League last night declared itself “at war” with extremist elements of the Islamic faith. Members have already clashed with police and attacked mosques following the Woolwich atrocity. But in a disturbing statement last night it vowed to campaign to “cut the cancer of Islamic extremism” from society. It said on its website: “The terrible events in Woolwich were a reminder of something very few are willing to accept: we are at war. We need to clamp down on extremist preachers and the mosques that continue to host them.”

In a major speech to military and political leaders, Mr Obama said the US could not wage "a boundless global war on terror" but must face a new reality where threats come from regional jihadists and home-grown extremists. "Our systematic effort to dismantle terrorist organisations must continue. But this war, like all wars, must end," Mr Obama said. "That´s what history advises. That´s what our democracy demands." As he announced the most significant shift in US counter-terrorism since the fall of the World Trade Centre, Mr Obama said he would restrict his own signature policy of ordering drone strikes

If I had slept through yesterday, woken up this morning, and gone online, I might have thought the EDL beheaded someone. There is a lot of displacement on Twitter and FB, as if it´s all too politically difficult and socially awkward to talk about the killers´ ideology, or the place of religion in that ideology. So we talk instead about the EDL, or John Reid, or drones, or "the religion of peace" or say "Christians kill too" or "what about Anders Breivik", or, well, anything but the brute fact that the murderers, like so very many before them, shouted "Allahu

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose
