The Nebraska voters figured out that Hagel was a pretend Republican years ago and dumped him. They say that when he visited Nebraska he talked like a Republican, but while in Washington, DC, he was a Democrat.

Hagel represents everything wrong about D.C. He should have run as a Democrat when he was in the Senate because that is what he is. But he didn´t have the courage to do that so he pretended to Nebraska that he was GOP. Obama´s approach to selecting members of his administration is often seen in the business world: the boss who is so insecure he only hires unimpressive underlings so that no one can outshine him. I served with Hagel on a non-profit advisory board in Omaha during the mid 90s. I remember being amazed at his enormous ego and abject stupidity. He is without question the walking definition of an empty suit. And thus a perfect fit in the Obama cabinet.

Here´s my personal theory on RINOs. By nature, politicians have huge egos. Republicans elected to congress quickly discover that the best (only) way to get face time on the evening news and talking head shows is to buck their own party.
