| Following a deadly start to the year that included the murder of 15-year-old band majorette Hadiya Pendleton, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and police Superintendent Garry McCarthy announced today that 200 police officers will be reassigned to patrol work. The officers, who had been performing administrative duties will be replaced by civilians, according to an announcement from the mayor’s office. The first officers will be reassigned this weekend and the changes are expected to be completed by the end of March, city officials said. Emanuel said the officers will help saturate areas where trouble is brewing, hopefully quashing violence.

I wonder if they really think the animals will have any respect for the police? How many brave officers will have to die before they decide it simply isn´t worth it? And the worst thing is, if the officers arrest someone he´ll be back on the street before suppertime.

Police officers assigned to staff duties usually fall into several categories 1. Those that are studying for promotion 2. Older guys that have done their time in the field. 3. Pogues who have no interest in doing police work. 4. Female officers who have no interest in doing police work (sorry ladies, it´s a fact)
None of the above will be happy about being put back on graveyard shift and working weekends and not many will be motivated to do any actual police work.

200 more on patrol won´t cut it. You´ll need 500-700 more on patrol and you have to give citations for every little thing. Clean up Chicago the way that Guiliani cleaned up NY. Anything less will fail.

About time. That´s what they were trained to do. Anybody can do desk work. And why do they need 200 desk jockeys?

Mayor Rahm should have done this as soon as it was evident that shootings were spiralling out of control. And stop and frisk should be implemented immediately. Our illustrious ´leaders´ are so paralyzed by political correctness and worrying about their own hides, it takes the wanton murder of a 15-year old majorette to get some action. and as others on this thread have noted, putting 200 desk jockeys on the street is not likey to make much of a dent in the problem, although it is a start.

You could put an entire army out there and it wouldn´t help. I have seen the "beef up the patrol" schtick so many times. Nothing gets better. It may slow down for a little while but as soon as the cops are pulled off the extra time, it will go crazy again. One of the biggest problems that keeps gangs going is that they are not only allowed but encouraged to keep up the whole gang lifestyle in prison. They need to break up the gang mentality in prisons too. Instead, they let them flourish because the cops and COs are all corrupt too.

More cops can´t stop it. Fewer guns can´t stop it. Throwing money at it can´t stop it. Only marriage certificates and responsible biological dads can stop it. Good luck.

All they need to do is make gun crimes federal felonies with mandatory sentences! Right now, Chicago releases 93% of gun criminals on probation!
If I were a criminal... I´d be focusing on Michigan Ave. for robberies, no that all the cops are assigned to the hood.

Every Memorial Day, when I run into the grocery store to pick up those last minute items for the three day weekend’s picnic, I’m met with members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) selling their poppies. We cherish, too, the poppy red/ that grows on fields where valor led; It seems to signal to the skies/that blood of heroes never dies-- “We Shall Keep the Faith” by Moina Michael -I remember as a kid that it was very common to see paper poppies being sold around Memorial Day. Michelle Obama certainly knows how to work a room! In this case, it was a kindergarten classroom at Savoy Elementary School in Washington D.C., where the patrons were, well, pint-size. The first lady paid a visit to the youngsters, brightening their day with some silly dance moves performed in unison and imparting an important message about hard work and perseverance.Awww. According to the Huffington Post, Obama encouraged the kiddos to "try new things and not be afraid to fail, because we have all failed," and referenced Kerry Washington (also in the audience),

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will appeal a federal judge´s ruling that his agency systematically singled out Latinos in its trademark immigration patrols, marking the first finding by a court that the agency racially profiles people. Tim Casey, the lead attorney representing America´s self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in the case, said an appeal of the finding that the agency racially profiles people was planned in the next 30 days. The decision by U.S. District Judge Murray Snow in Phoenix backs up years of allegations from Arpaio´s critics who say his officers violate the constitutional rights of Latinos

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

On Wednesday, Drummer Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, a man who had served Queen and country honorably in the hell of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, emerged from his barracks on Wellington Street, named after the Duke thereof, in southeast London. Minutes later, he was hacked to death in broad daylight and in full view of onlookers by two men with machetes who crowed "Allahu Akbar!" as they dumped his carcass in the middle of the street like so much roadkill. As grotesque as this act of savagery was, the aftermath was even more unsettling
