Time to pay up, Tawana

Infamous hoaxster Tawana Brawley — whose outrageous rape lie 25 years ago inflamed racial tensions nationwide — yesterday was finally slapped with a court order to settle a hefty defamation case against her. “For at least 25 years, she has been living a major lie,” said former Dutchess County prosecutor Steven Pagones, who was falsely accused of raping Brawley in 1987 and finally tracked her down, thanks to The Post. “To me, this has always been about responsibility and accountability,’’ added the former ADA, who won the $190,000 defamation lawsuit

Maybe she can hit up Al for this. After all, it made his career.

Maybe she can hock her free cell phone, claim she lost it, get another free cell phone, hock that, get another free cell phone, and so on to pay off that $190K. She´s been sticking it to the taxpayers her entire live anyhow.

Tawana could be nothing but on welfare. Employers tend to discriminate against fraudsters, and those filing trumped up lawsuits. A case for deporting our undesirables on a boat lift to Cuba.

" Pagones, who is now principal owner of a private investigations firm."

Doesn´t say much for his abilities as a PI!

I read a transcript of a conversation between Sharpton, Mason and Maddox in which they openly admitted that they knew Brawley was lying but were using the case to further their public profile. It backfired and they all skated. As usual, there was virtually no penalty for Sharpton´s crime. He got others to pay his fine. I still don´t know why he did not jail time for this.

Reply 2 and 4 she is not on welfare but is working as a licensed nurse. Doesn´t anyone ever read the whole thing?

This incident was outrageous and I hope he makes her pay as much as he can wring from her. She has been getting off scot free for a lot of years.

#7 is right. Several news items want us to believe all should be forgiven, let her alone now that she is a working nurse. No way. I am thrilled this guy has been like a dog with a bone all these years. HE intends to make her accountable for the ruin and pain. Pay up honey!!!

Will she now lose her license since she has skipped out on paying the settlement for losing a defamation lawsuit and now using an assumed name etc?

President Obama is right. He told Major Garrett of CBS this week that “Mr. Putin’s decisions aren’t just bad for Ukraine. Over the long term, they’re going to be bad for Russia.” I believe that Putin’s adventures in Russia’s “near abroad” are a mistake. Indeed, they are part of a whole tapestry of wrongheadedness. It’s also bad for the Kremlin to crush dissent, censor the news, and hobble the economy by handing it over to oligarchs and a kleptocratic bureaucracy. Putin’s scapegoating and demonizing of gays isn’t only morally wrong, it’s not in Russia’s long-term interests either. That Putin prefers to

Matt Bevin, who is running against Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in the Kentucky GOP primary, has come out with a new ad defending his claimed affiliation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bevin tries to sidestep the MIT controversy in his latest ad by claiming that he never portrayed himself as a graduate of the prestigious school. “I’m a small-business owner, I’ve not had a resume in over 20 years. I’ve never claimed on a resume or to anyone ever that I’m a graduate of MIT. This is a lie made up by Mitch McConnell to distract you from

When Oprah Winfrey served on a Chicago jury in 2004, she couldn’t go to the bathroom attached to the jury room unless her fellow jurors sang to drown out the noise. One of the songs they sang was Kumbaya. When Alexis Sanchez used the bathroom in her college dorm, she brought her iPod with her. “I would blast it,” she says. “I would play ´D. A. N. C. E.´ by Justice, and some Maroon 5 song. That was my poop playlist. It had to be a ritual or else I would focus too much on if there were other girls

Yes, it’s a bit early to talk about the 2016 election. It’s just too much fun not to do it. You’re welcome. With about 20 months to go before the Iowa precinct caucuses, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul lead the pack for the Republican presidential nomination. Meanwhile, former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton continues to hold a huge lead among Democrats, according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday. Three possible GOP candidates capture double-digit support among self-identified Republicans: Christie receives 15 percent, which puts him just ahead of Bush and

Long time home schooling leader and former Boerne church official Doug Phillips is fighting back today against allegations raised by his former nanny that he ´groomed her to be his sex object.´ "This more seems like an attempt to kill a Christian movement than it does just as an attack against Doug Phillips," Jason Jakob, who is Phillips´ attorney, tells 1200 WOAI´s Michael Board. The plaintiff, Lourdes Torres, claims in her lawsuit that Phillips forced her into a relationship which featured frequent sexual assault, imprisonment, and participation in deviant sexual activity. As part of the lawsuit, Torres claims that Phillips told her

Washington -- Louisiana Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu is in the middle of a storm. She is beset by well-funded forces on the right who sense the Gulf Coast Democrat´s vulnerability in trying to defend a Senate seat in a red state. On the left, she is trying to avoid being pulled down by the undertow of a president whose decline in approval ratings and controversial health care reform law might not play well with her state´s conservative sensibilities. She´s been buffeted by rough re-election fights before, and in previous successful bids for the state legislature, state treasurer´s office and eventually

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
