| Time Inc. joined the many news organizations trying to tighten their belts in a tough advertising climate by announcing layoffs and offering employees buyout packages on Wednesday. In a memo to the staff, Laura Lang, chief executive of Time Inc., said that she planned to reduce the company’s worldwide staff of 8,000 employees by 6 percent, or about 480 employees. Trenton — As Congress debates an overhaul to the federal immigration system, New Jersey lawmakers again took up controversial legislation today that would allow students living in the country illegally to pay in-state tuition at the state’s public colleges. The bill, dubbed the “Tuition Equality Act,” was approved by the state Assembly Budget Committee after a lengthy hearing in Trenton. The crowd in the chamber, which included immigrant students who have been pushing for the change for years, cheered as the committee moved the bill. The legislation will now go to the full Assembly for a vote.

Passengers on NJ Transit’s No. 113 Express bus were taken on a ride from hell during Thursday’s morning rush when a lost driver took a really scenic route to New York, leaving commuters nearly two hours late for work. The express from Dunellen to the Port Authority Bus Terminal became a local—and then some. Chris Christie today to talk about New Jersey´s recovery from Hurricane Sandy—touching on the state´s emotional connection to the Shore, the need for another source of flood insurance, and the governor´s famous "get the hell off the beach" comment. Sandy devastated New Jersey—especially its shoreline—last fall, leaving million without power and seriously damaging hundreds of thousands of homes. An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. The May 17 deposition where she made the alleged admissions is part of a $1.2 million lawsuit brought by Lisa Jackson, the former manager of a Savannah, Georgia, restaurant run by Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers.
