Marco Rubio’s Charm Offensive
National Review Online, by Robert Costa

Original Article

It’s 4:20 p.m. on a dreary Monday and Marco Rubio is pacing beside his desk, a black handset pressed to his ear. He’s on the phone with conservative talk-radio host Michael Medved. A few minutes earlier, he was on an online radio program. After he finishes with Medved, he’ll call Newsmax, a conservative news website. On Tuesday, he’ll dial Rush Limbaugh. Between calls, Rubio monitors Twitter on his laptop and phone and keeps an eye on C-SPAN, which is broadcasting Senate floor speeches. He occasionally sips from a bottle of mineral water. “Who’s next?” Rubio asks, turning toward his press

Comments:
Rubio is a serious young man. He has vision, intelligence and courage. His role in this go-round of immigration reform negotiations will indicate whether he has first-rate political skills and is savvy enough to finally secure our borders and productively integrate eleven million Hispanic people into our schools and workforce without disadvantaging existing citizens or people already in our immigration pipeline.

At least Senator Rubio stands for something. He is willing to say what he believes.

I have heard too many conservatives and Republicans lately say they are giving up.

I can never do that. I have a family.. a wife and kids.. and I love my country.

And I want it back.

I, for one, find his charm offensive when employed in the service of Schumer, O, McCain and Bob Menendez. Rush praised him the other day, even while not agreeing that immigration reform/amnesty is being done right. No matter how many times it is said, the borders won´t be secured "first" and all this effort will result in is the dissolution of conservatives in red states and a permanent Dem base. Rubio is earnest, intelligent and a wonderfully facile speaker, but I am not on board with him.

Rubio has shown his true career politician colors. He may look good in a suit and exchanges pleasantries with attention-starved radio talk show hosts, but some of you need to wake up and smell the coffee. Amnesty for 11 to 20 million illegal guests is not just another issue. It would be a permanent structural shift in the electorate in favor of the socialists. At that point, we all might as well give up. If you want to save the country take off the blinders of race, physical appearance, biography --all that crap -- and focus on the substance of the issues. Sad to say that many on the right have been suckered by Rubio in the same way those on the left were with Oblahma. You cannot rely on some talk show host to tell you what is right or wrong for the country.

I heard Rubio talk the other day about his legalization proposal for long-term illegal aliens. From what I heard Rubio say, his proposal is very different that what Obama and the liberal Democrats are proposing.

Rubio said that he supports a conditional immigration status for long-term illegal aliens that does not contain any sort of path to citizenship. Rubio´s proposal would allow qualified illegal aliens to stay in the US indefinitely, to work, to gain the protection of all US laws, and to travel to and from the USA as long as they obey all US laws. After an alien received a conditional immigration status, if that alien wished to later on become a permanent resident alien, he or she would have to qualify for an immigrant visa in accordance with the immigration laws, just like all legal immigrants must do now. After becoming a permanent resident that alien must complete five years residence in the USA and meet all the other requirements for citizenship that all legal immigrants must do today. The alien, if he or she wished, could then petition to be naturalized as a US citizen. Only then would that person receive US voting rights.

Obama and the liberal Democrats want all illegal aliens now in the USA to be put on a special streamlined path to citizenship, so that they could be naturalized and be given US voting rights as soon as possible. Obama and the liberal Democrats would not be doing that if the had any inkling at all that more then a small percentage of those new voters would ever have an epifinany and vote for conservative Republicans, you can safely bet on that!

Eventual citizenship is still citizenship with voting rights.

Why should anyone grant that to those whose presence here is a violation of U.S. law?

Rubio has been photographed with Schumer.
No one who is serious would allow himself to be photographed with Schumer.
See the article.
There the two of them are.
This is not going to sit well.
How many people love McCain?

Hope all this "immigration reform" talk is just that -- and goes away eventually.

Electing the right enforcing president will be all the reform needed.
Neither the Jebster nor the Rubester could qualify.

Rubio is now consorting with some of the lowest forms of human debris in the Senate in order to enact legislation which in ANY form would empower the dims until the end of time while dooming his own party. At best he is incredibly gullible and self-serving. I noticed that although Rush and Levin, both of whom I respect did not broach the question of electoral suicide to Rubio during their interviews, although they both have spoken at length on this subject on many occasions. Let´s have tougher interviews, please.

He says nothing will be done until the southern borders are closed. I don´t believe that will ever happen and every one of the requirements of his plan will just be smoothed over and never taken care of like always. If they can´t find 11 million to send home, how will they find them to sign them up? We were hearing the same thing a couple of years ago but people fought it down.

If he was talking to the conservative outlets, why didn´t he call Glenn Beck? Several million would have heard him there.

Well, I for one find Marco Rubio just plain offensive. I will not worship at the alter of an appeaser who wants amnesty for illegals. I don´t care how much lipstick he puts on his pet pig.....

#8, yes. We must all remember we heard the "securing the border" garbage (appropriate word) when W was in office. Rubio rushed through that phrase in every interview about immigration. He should be pinned down. Senator, please define "securing the border first." Details. No specifics, oh I see. Well, we will be ready to listen when specifics are all spelled out. THEN ask us for our support of this plan.

On April 6, Eurasianist storm troopers operating under Kremlin coordination launched assaults, seizing government buildings in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Lugansk, and several smaller cities in eastern Ukraine; declared themselves to be the assemblies of independent governments; and immediately invited Russian troops to invade and annex their respective fictional statelets. There can be no doubt that many of the thousands of invaders involved were in fact Eurasianist storm troopers, and not, as reported by some media outlets, “pro-Russian protesters.” They carried the outward-radiating eight-arrowed flag of Putinist ideologue Aleksandr Dugin’s fascist Eurasianist movement and shouted and displayed its slogan

The world is less safe when America doesn’t lead. But for President Obama, this lesson has yet to sink in. In February, he offered a budget that would cut crucial funding for our national security. So tomorrow, House Republicans will pass a budget that would give our troops the funding they need. First, let’s put things in perspective: For decades, defense spending made up roughly 50 percent of the federal budget. Today, it’s just 18 percent. And if we stay on the current path, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that defense will fall below 10 percent by 2024.

So Vladimir Putin invades Ukraine and denies doing it. Those guys just showed up in matching uniforms. To be fair, Putin did reserve the right to invade. And the deposed Ukrainian president, who barely escaped with his life, and who even Putin acknowledges is a crook, did invite Russia to go in. Putin is also upset that Ukraine’s new government did not observe the procedural due process for which the Russian government is so well known. He is outraged over phantom attacks on Russians, and now sits back to consider how big a piece of Ukraine he wants

Virgin CEO Richard Branson said that those who are skeptical of man-made global warming should “get out of our way,” joining the ranks of CEOs lashing out against those opposed to business investments in “sustainability.” Branson made his remarks in the wake of Apple CEO Tim Cook’s telling global warming skeptics to “get out of this stock” if they did not agree with the company’s green investment strategy. Cook made his comments after being confronted by a free-market activist who pressed him on putting the environment ahead of profitable investments. “If you want me to do things only for [return on investment] reasons,

Celebrate Gay Marriage—or Else

Future historians will likely be flummoxed by the moment we’re living in. In what amounts to less than a blink of an eye in the history of Western civilization, homosexuality has gone from a diagnosed mental disorder to something to be celebrated — or else. Indeed, the rush to mandatory celebration is so intense, refusal is now considered tantamount to a crime. And, in some rare instances, an actual crime if the right constable or bureaucrat concludes that you have uttered “hate speech.” Or, if you refuse to bake a gay couple a cake for their wedding.

For nearly three decades, Iran’s ayatollahs have outfoxed and outmaneuvered Western counter-proliferation efforts. Tehran has repeatedly bested our diplomats, our spies, and, most especially, our gullible political leaders. In the Joint Plan of Action, reached in Geneva this November, the mullahs did it again, worsening the already-grim prospects for stopping or even slowing Iran’s nuclear program. (snip) Worse, Secretary of State John Kerry, under a thick rhetorical fog, is blithely pursuing a “comprehensive solution,” despite the certainty that Iran will never agree to anything precluding it from possessing nuclear weapons.

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
