White House: GOP responsible
for contracting economy

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Justin Sink

White House press secretary Jay Carney laid the blame for a surprise economic contraction squarely at the feet of congressional Republicans Wednesday, saying economic threats during the "fiscal cliff" negotiations had prevented important defense spending. "Our economy is facing a major headwinds, and that´s Republicans in Congress," Carney said. The Commerce Department projected Wednesday that the nation´s gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by 0.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012. Carney said that was partially attributable

Right on que! Imagine how wonderful it would be if we actually had rational people in the White House. This is why we have 0bama for a second term. The idiots that elected him believe these outrageous lies.

Unreal. Obama has the economic skills of an eggplant, as anyone remotely paying attention for the last 4 years well knows.

This administration *needs* to be exposed for the corrupt, inept crony crew of misfits that it indeed is...

I think it was one of my dogs that might be responsible, or perhaps it was that tree over there, or maybe it was lint buildup in our dryer.

The White House is full of crap and we all know it. When it feeds us crap and blames Republicans for anything that goes wrong and takes credit for everything that appears to go right, Republican leaders need to be prepared to come out swinging to defend themselves. Even better, they need to anticipate the crap and put the truth out there BEFORE the crap-feeding commences.

Seriously Boehner et al., get a friggin´ clue. The rest of us could make a fortune betting on what the White House is going to say; it isn´t difficult to anticipate.

Notice how Republicans will have no strong language to counter this.

Nothing like "socialism leads to poverty and stagnation"

Nothing like "Obama is a socialist and follows failed socialist prescriptions"

...nothing like that from republican leadership.

Its time they came up with something else---how about "blame of the day" so they never have to take any responsibility for anything!

We were told that everything would be wonderful if we just re-elected Bam-- still waiting for that....

Democrats can lie all day long and not be called on it because they have dumbed down the population so much that people will believe anything they say. This is why it is important for us to all get out there and work on educating the public, teaching them the truth, and countering the lies whenver they come up. We cannot pretend that is doesn´t matter.

So why is the economy dependent on government spending to barely tread water? In a normal recovery GDP would be 4-5%/year and a temporary dip in gov´t spending would hardly be noticed.

8 of the last 9 qtrs government expenditures have been negative. The only exception was 3rd Qtr of last year when Obama was buying the election. Exports were negative as were private inventories you can´t blame the GOP for that. Or for all the business activity brought forward into the qtr to avoid higher taxes. That kept the gdp number from looking even worse. Carney makes Baghdad Bob look honest.

It´s waaaay past time to move away from the traditional two-party system and consider voting for the right *candidate* rather than your idea of the right *party*.

If the Donks think the GOP is as powerful as that, with just a majority in the House, then the Donks would be wise to lay down arms in despair and surrender to Boehner. Otherwise we may raise our eyebrows or something, possibly causing earthquakes and raging fires. So don´t make us mad. Quit Today.

On Wednesday, CNN anchor Jake Tapper dug into the controversial way in which members of President Barack Obama’s administration have apparently tried to intimidate whistleblowers in the government and the journalists that would investigate their stories. Tapper said that some, including the New York Times editorial board, have described the administration’s actions as “threatening fundamental freedoms of the press.” He warned Obama’s supporters to remember the precedent his administration is setting when a Republican next occupies the Oval Office. Tapper noted that the scandal surrounding the subpoenaing of Fox News reporter James Rosen’s personal telephone and email

The chief judge of the District’s federal court issued an unusual order Wednesday, apologizing to the public and the media for not making certain court documents widely available online. The gesture of transparency by U.S. District Judge Royce C. The US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Ronald C. Machen – the man responsible for the aggressive surveillance and phone record scrutiny at Fox News – is also a big donor to the Obama Campaigns. At the time of his appointment, the Washington Post wrote a profile on Machen including this tidbit: Over the years, he has donated $4,350 to Obama’s campaigns.

If in any of these situations even one person of influence had adhered to the basic tenets of liberalism all of these scandals could have been avoided. "When you grow government this big, these kinds of scandals are inevitable, and (President Obama) bears the responsibility for that," Louisiana Gov. The Justice Department did more than seize a Fox News reporter´s emails while suggesting he was a criminal "co-conspirator" in a leak case -- it did so under one of the most serious wartime laws in America, the Espionage Act. It´s the same law used by the Nixon administration to go after The New York Times and Daniel Ellsberg over the leak of the Pentagon Papers. It´s the law used to charge the Rosenbergs, American communists, for allegedly passing secret information to the Soviet Union -- they were executed for the offense in 1953. The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
