War On Poverty As Senseless
As War On Drugs

My favorite reading genre is the mystery novel and I´m a fan of Ian Rankin´s work which chronicles Inspector John Rebus´ cases in Edinburgh, Scotland. The book I´m reading now, "The Naming of the Dead" was written about the 2005 G8 conference that took place in the Gleneagles Hotel in Aucterarder, Scotland. Rankin describes the arrival of the hundreds of thousands of marchers and protesters holding signs that read "Make Poverty History" and I always marvel at how so many people who have never known poverty think politicians can end it.

All these `wars` should be redefined as the War on the Taxpayer.

These phony wars are no different than govn` stimulus` packages. Billions spent with nothing to show for it.

What are you talking about? Politicians are experts and ending poverty - their own.

FTA: "The reason is not societal but rather parental neglect and dysfunction due to domestic violence, alcohol or drug abuse."

I believe in its simplest forms, these are these reasons why whole blocks of youths and generations within our country are failing. Which is odd, since we are now in a techie world.

0bama was correct "there" if he wants to offer third world countries "shovel ready" jobs, and not the type for burying their disease ridden sick. These countries need to develop their food industries, while building cities and towns comparable to what is seen now in the 21-Century. Along with that, education and jobs to use it. It goes without saying that their governments must be able to turn their weapons into plowshares. This will be difficult as Al Qaeda continues to subvert man´s freedom brutally worldwide.

Yeah, but what created that "parental neglect, etc."?? The Democrat Party policies that gave emphasis on providing free money to women who popped babies out like a factory as long as she kicks the man out of the house... The perpetual poverty machine itself--the welfare system.

Until they can eliminate ignorance, stupidity, irresponsibility, bad choices, sloth, and just plain bad luck, they will never win a single battle against poverty.

Reply 6 - Posted by: wsdiego, 1/30/2013 4:23:52 PM     (No. 9149116)

The point is never to win one of these wars because what will happen to all those agencies that have to be funded!

Reply 7 - Posted by: brdg, 1/30/2013 5:14:27 PM     (No. 9149220)

The war on poverty has failed because it has been fought with free money and white guilt.

The war needs to be fought with education and accountability. That is done not with more education spending but by slashing Cash for Flunkers. A diploma should be required for full benefits.

HIGHLANDS, NJ — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Monday that President Obama "has kept every promise he´s made" about helping the state recover from Hurricane Sandy. Speaking on MSNBC´s "Morning Joe" program on the 6-month anniversary of the deadly storm, the Republican governor said presidential politics were the last thing on his mind as he toured storm-devastated areas with Obama last fall. "The president has kept every promise he´s made," said Christie, widely considered a potential candidate for the republican presidential nomination in 2016. "I think he´s done a good job. He kept his word."

In the wake of this week´s false AP tweet about explosions at the White House, Bloomberg´s Jared Keller and Evan Applegate offer a look at how "false tweets" can move markets, sending stocks spiking or crashing in an instant. "The AP hack highlights the potential pitfalls of relying on social networks for tradable information, but false tweets have been affecting markets and companies for the past few years," they write. "In some cases the impact of false tweets can be immediate. On August 6, 2012: A Twitter account claiming to be that of Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was on welfare, sponsored by tax payers. Tsarnaev, now dead, is suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon last week. "Marathon bombings mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev was living on taxpayer-funded state welfare benefits even as he was delving deep into the world of radical anti-American Islamism, the Herald has learned," reports the Boston Herald. "State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter.

“He looks like me,” my son, Shibli, 10, said as we looked at a photo of a young Dzhokhar Tsarnaev flash upon the TV screen Friday night. Indeed, with his innocent eyes and rumple of dark curly hair, he did. As an American, a Muslim, a mother, and an aunt to a nephew on the cusp of manhood, my heart just broke for yet another boy lost in our Muslim community, taking with him the lives of others. Enough, enough, enough, I say, with the CYA—Cover Your A**—strategy in our Muslim communities.

Boudin, 69, this year won another academic laurel — being named the Sheinberg Scholar-in-Residence at NYU Law School, where last month she gave a lecture on “the politics of parole and re-entry.” Boudin’s bounce-back into respectability after her 2003 parole comes to light a week before the release of Robert Redford’s movie

This is a real thing that is really happening. For real. What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
