Steve Kroft: Obama’s Larry King
National Review, by Jonah Goldberg

Original Article

Posted By:Toledo, 1/30/2013 8:41:04 AM

There was a time when a public figure who wanted to get a “fair hearing” — i.e., get his message out without too much pushback or skepticism — sought out Larry King. I’ve never faulted Larry King for that. He was on the infotainment side of journalism, and that’s a fine place to be if you don’t pretend to be doing something different. He’d ask good, sometimes interesting, but usually easy questions, and then let his guests answer them pretty much as they wanted.

Hey. I commented on this forum yesterday that Kroft was like Larry King. All Kroft needed was ugly suspenders.
I beat you to it, Jonah

With all due respect to Jonah there are even better metaphors:

Kroft is Howard Cosell to Obama´s Muhammad Ali, his Mean Gene to Obama´s Hulk Hogan, his anonymous Tiger Beat reporter to Leif Garrett.

´Mr President, just how awesome are you? Is it realistic that you can be more awesome in a second term?´

Kroft no longer can be called a serious journalist. He blew it big time.

More like Zippy´s Reggie Love.

Is a ´suck-up´ the same as a journalist? Does a journalist seek out news or merely confirm that Obama is above all questions that seek out news?

Final question .... ... is Kroft a journalist??

Clinton´s Monica!

You folks are too kind to Kroft. A better metaphor is that Kroft wears a blue dress for Obama!

There is no one, NO ONE, in the media that can honestly be considered to be a journalist.

FNC has gone round the bend with their so called fair and balanced nonsense.

The so called balance on FNC is totally unbalanced and rabid.

Saw a comment yesterday that renamed softball questions. He called them ´Kroftballs´. I thought that was so good that I would pass it along.

Steve Kroft crawls on his belly and licks Obama´s shoes.

#1, isn´t the first time Jonah has gotten ideas from this forum.
Glad he uses this as a source.

Think he did so in ´Liberal Fascists´; we had been running that thread for quite a while before his book came out.

More power to him, if these here ideas get more exposure.

Keep on keepin´ on, Jonah. Maybe someday you will recognize LDot in your sources.

As someone who has been in theaters where people have not turned off their cell phones, I have many long, elaborate fantasies about what I would like to do to those people. In some of these fantasies, I merely clear my throat loudly or poke them a little with a sharpened umbrella. In my more grotesque imaginings, I shout, “FIRE!” “Where?” everyone else in the theater asks. “Right here,” I say, touching a lit match to the hem of the offender’s coat.

If he will obey your orders in not living up to a contempt of Congress, can we believe that he is in fact independent?” Attorney General Eric H. Has President Nixon been replaced by Sergeant Schultz? The “Smartest President Ever” has disappeared. The Barack Brain Trust long-touted by liberals is gone — replaced by hacks whose rallying cry is straight from Stalag 13—“I know nothing. Nothing!” The top law enforcement agency in the land spied on the top news-gathering organization, secretly seizing phone records from their home and cell phones. They did so without the legally required notice to the Associated Press. And what did Attorney General Eric Holder say when asked why his Department of Justice would do such a thing?

We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they´re seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration´s credibility deeply, probably irretrievably damaged. They don´t look jerky now, they look dirty. The patina of high-mindedness the president enjoyed is gone.

There’s a problem for President Obama in dealing with the cascading public-relations crises involving the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice — a problem that can’t be repaired by “fixing the problem,” as he promised to do yesterday with the IRS in a rainy press conference at the White House. The problem is that these are agencies the Obama presidency has empowered and is in the process of empowering still further. They are arms of the federal government whose authority and reach he wishes to increase — at a time

In 1977, I was publishing a small newspaper in the Bronx, the Parkway News. There was a mayoral candidate who wasn’t being taken seriously. He was destined to become a footnote in a field dominated by such names as Bella Abzug, Herman Badillo, incumbent mayor Abraham Beame, Mario Cuomo, and Percy Sutton. Many thought the Parkway News was crazy to cast its lot with the quirky candidate it favored, but I saw something special in that candidate, Edward I. Koch. Today I say do not write off Anthony Weiner.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. PRESIDENT OBAMA: You are the mantle of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups. (Snip) “There’s a reason Lady Justice wears a blindfold in America. That is because in America, we don’t apply the law based on who you are, who you know, or what you believe.
