Marco Rubio’s big immigration gamble
Washington Post, by Chris Cillizza

Of the octet of members that comprise the “Gang of 8? pushing for a comprehensive immigration reform bill, none has more to gain (or lose) than Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio. Rubio is widely seen as a 2016 Republican presidential candidate and touching immigration, which remains a, well, touchy subject among the GOP rank and file, brings real risk with it. “This is going to be tough for Republicans and the recidivist elements in our party,” said GOP strategist Alex Castellanos, himself a Cuban-American.”It will all be fine until there is a GOP primary,

If it results in immediate citizenship, the right to vote, and includes family members still in Mexico then I´m against it. I don´t think anyone who came here illegally should ever get the right to vote period. If all these illegals were expected to become Republicans the Democrats would build a border fence asap and kill any such legislation. Once again the Republicans lead by McCain will cave and the result will be a one party country like NYC and California.

He did radio with Rush, Sean, and Mark, I am still not convinced that with the Alinski crowd in the WH that any reform would be done honestly, as planned and approved.

How nice that Castellanos uses the words ´recidivist elements´. That will surely allay fears, along with Rubio belonging to the same gang as Chuck Schumer, John McCain, and Dick Durbin, I don´t trust any of them. So sorry Rubio hitched his wagon to McCain, the least trustworthy voice in the GOP.

While Rubio gambles that he can insist on getting our border under control prior to any substantial GOP compromises on the amnesty question, I am reminded of another famous gambler. Every year, Charlie Brown took another run at kicking the football while Lucy teed the ball and smiled sweetly. Is Marco any smarter than Charlie? We´re about to find out.

The GOP is merging with the Dems. I do not want to see a third Party but I would really like to see a 2nd Party.

I am against amnesty. That being said, I think Rubio is clean and innocent and too trusting in the ways of the Senate, especially democrats.
He is like Mr. Smith goes to Washington.
His intentions are pure, he wants to fix this problem once and for all. (that is refreshing)..can he do it in a way to satisfy conservatives, while getting democrats to go along? That is to be seen.
How about we sit and watch for a little while before we kill the messenger this time?
Deporting a great number of convicted illegals would be a good start. Sure, I would rather see them all deported..but let´s try to think out of the box on this.

Dittos, #8. Rubio is not doing this to try to help the GOP or the country, he´s doing this for himself.

Reply 16 - Posted by: bighambone, 1/30/2013 10:12:59 AM     (No. 9148279)

Obama and the liberal Democrats are pushing for a special streamlined path to citizenship for 11 to 20 million illegal aliens that would give them all US voting rights within a few years. If that were to happen, with ten million or so new voters, the Democrats would be able to permanently flip States like Arizona, Florida, and Texas to the Democrat´s favor as California is now, once that happened, it would be all down hill to political oblivion for the Republican (Stupid) Party who would never again be able to win future national elections.

The vast majority of illegal aliens are poor, generally uneducated, low wage earners, with big families. To survive here in high cost of living America they will need access to all the US safety net social welfare programs and Obama Care to survive. That means the US Government will be subsidizing those people big time indefinitely. Since the liberal Democrats want to expand access to those programs and the Republicans want to contract those programs, who do you think the vast majority of the new former illegal alien voters will be voting for?

Do you think that Obama and the liberal Democrats would be pushing all this if they ever thought that more then a small percentage of the legalized aliens would ever have an epifinany and vote for conservative Republicans?

Rubio better think twice about this issue, unless he is planning on becoming a Democrat?

In my observation, these Senatorial "gangs" form only to frustrate conservative objectives. I like Rubio. His plan sounds resonable. His timing is terrible.

What is needed now is laser focus on the deficit and the economy. Immigration and gun control can wait.

I was an early supporter of Rubio´s run for the Senate, even though I live several states away. I gave money to his campaign, wrote letters, encouraged others in my town to support him, etc. He lost my support with this amnesty plan. I doubt if I´m the only one. Another disappointment. I´m pretty much done with the GOP.

Sadly, me thinks Marco = Rino and another one bites the dust. Marco may love this country, but not enough. He seems to love himself more. No surprise that he and Jeb got along so well. Not attempting to be cruel, just facing the facts.

The facts just keep coming out of Ohio. It is hard to comprehend what they went through, those young women. What they felt while trapped by a monster through those lost years of their early adulthood is almost impossible to fathom. How did they cope? How did they get through each day? A close friend of mine was sexually abused as a teenaged girl. It was a man she knew. It lasted for years. She never told anyone — not her mom, not her friends. She didn’t tell because, like so many women who are abused, she blamed herself.

Journalists gasp and growl whenever prosecutors issue lawful subpoenas ordering them to divulge their confidential sources or to turn over potential evidence, such as notes, video outtakes or other records. It’s an attack on the First Amendment, It’s an attack on the First Amendment, It’s an attack on the First Amendment, journalists and their lawyers chant. Those chants were heard this week, as it was revealed that Department of Justice prosecutors had seized two months’ worth of records from 20 office, home and cell phone lines used by Associated Press journalists in their investigation into the Yemen underwear-bomber leaks.

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. Let’s see if we can unravel one of the great mysteries of the Obama Administration. The latest invocations of the Incompetence Defense from President Obama, Eric Holder, and now the departing Acting IRS Commissioner (hilariously described by the Associated Press as “ousted,” even though he’s leaving exactly when he was originally scheduled to depart, in June) hold that all of these super-genius leaders found out about various outrages by watching the news, along with the rest of us. They have no idea what their subordinates do every day, until it blows up into a huge scandal on the evening news, and that’s why they should be left in charge of everything.

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, speaking to NPR on Friday, warned his party about overreaching in their approach to the trio of controversies President Obama is facing. While Republicans need to be relentless in their response, Gingrich urged a focus on facts. “I think we overreached in ’98,” Gingrich recalled, quipping, “How’s that for a quote you can use?” Which is not to say Republicans should not be persistent. “They need to be calm and factual,”

There is no provision in the Marine Corps uniform regulation guidelines that allows a male Marine to carry an umbrella. WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part
