Fort Collins students read
Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic

FORT COLLINS - A Fort Collins principal stands by his decision to allow students from a multicultural group to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic on the school´s intercom. "We do say the Pledge of Allegiance on Mondays at Rocky Mountain High School," principal Tom Lopez said. Students have always said it in English. This year, a group with about 30 students approached Lopez with a request to translate and recite the pledge in other languages. "They had to go through me for approval, and I reviewed it pretty carefully," Lopez said.

Comments:
I guess the positive view is that they are reciting it. s/o Amazing.

Nobody speaking the language of the Islamonazi Beast could possibly recite the Pledge. More likely they are chanting death to America and the infidels in their hate-filled tongue. I´m quite sure that´s how the Pledge translates in Arabic.

Parents who disagreed with this stunt are described by the principal as haters. That´s no surprise. Parents opposed to such PC have 3 other public high schools in Ft. Collins as possible transfer options.

Does Mr. Lopex understand that HE just forced Dhimmi status on his students?
Does Mr. Lopez understand ANYTHING other that "I are a Union Members and I cans do whut I wants!"

Headline is misleading. Article says that they had asked to read it in a variety of languages. Arabic was not the first language chosen, nor will it be the last.

The students´ point was that this is a diverse country. Speakers of many languages have come here and feel the words of the pledge.

The headline writer apparently just wanted to stir controversy

More than likely the students at this school are english language challenged. All the more reason that they learn the pledge in our official language (the one it was written), and stop all this multiculti bull. The principal of this school is a supremo jackass.

#5, The pledge being recited is to the American flag. While we are a nation comprised of people from many other nations, those who left the land of their birth to come here to be Americans came because they wanted what was here - not what they left behind. Those who came here to change America into something they are more comfortable with should not be accommodated. In fact, they are cordially invited to return to the place where they are clearly more comfortable.

Diversity, or division, is a lie we have allowed the liberals to use for too long. What we need to embrace is our affinity.

The students point is diversity...ok then.guess we have to put all our road signs in 20 different languges´s...how about directions on cake mixes in t wenty different language´s...all for diversity.

If a person moves to Germany...do ya think that person learns German...
This is the only country where we try to please everyone...learn to read, write and speak English if y ou are living here...nothing wrong with knowing 2 or 3 languages...but the primary spoken language in the USA is English

I have no doubt that the students and their principal mean well, just as I have no doubt -well, perhaps very little doubt- that the majority of liberals and Leftists mean well. It is unfortunate that this does not by itself always suffice.

Multiculturalism as commonly practiced at ground level is merely a self-esteem raising exercise, an expression of pity for the wretched of the earth, i.e. minorities, and a kind of psychotherapy for all concerned, minorities and majority both. There is something almost poignant about this manifestation of a fundamentally maternal and hospitable instinct. Too bad it is intellectually incoherent, self-contradictory and thus liable to produce results exactly opposite to those desired.

There is perhaps nothing in the world more inclusive than sharing and speaking the same language. The well-meaning students and their principal imagine that they are progressive by this miniature linguistic Balkanization, a principal function of which is to demonstrate that participants are tolerant, modern, sensitive and free from any taint of ethnic, racial or religious prejudice.

Arabic, of course, is a language. Islam is a totalitarian religion that rejects the modern Western separation of church and state as well as just about every other Western value. It is perfectly possible, though rather silly, to say the Pledge in Arabic and mean it. It is not possible to say it "in Islam" and mean it.

The question I have of the principal is this: do you understand Arabic (or whatever other language is used) well enough to know that what is being read is actually the Pledge of Allegiance?

Multiculturalism is nothing more than an organized effort to dismantle and reject our own Western cultural traditions.

For decades universities have been a hotbed of leftist/Communist/Socialist indoctrination and an all-out effort to rob us of our heritage. The is just another glowing example of the America-hating university leftists in action.

The principal´s job is to ensure that his students learn English, can communicate in English, and can read English. It is, after all, a school.
It is not the principal´s job to pander to every minority´s demands to change the system to their needs or liking. This does nothing but "Balkanize" us. What next? Shall we have all official government documents translated into Spanish, Arabic, Cambodian, Chinese, Polish, Russian, Somali, etc? THIS AIN´T THE FRIGGIN´ UN!

By the way, do they say "one nation under God"? Or "one nation under Allah"?

While I can understand the Principal´s idea, I think it is wrong headed. I am sick of hyphanated Americans. We are not Irish Americand, African Americans or Hispanic Americans. We are Americans, period!! One of the things that tie us together is a common language. At least that is what my ancestors thought when they came to this country about a hundred years ago. They wanted to be Americans and were completely assimilated into American culture within a generation. Highlighting differences instead of what is similar is just plain stupid. It fosters division and exclusion, not inclusion and a sense that we are the "UNITED" States!

I guess I missed the earlier headlines when the school recited the Pledge in French and Spanish. Wonder if the paper will follow through with coverage when it´s given in German and Chinese? It´s nice to see at least one school is still reciting the Pledge. It´s also nice to see the focus on foreign languages. Believe it or not, it´s possible to support the latter without buying into the claptrap of multiculturalism. As for the comment on learning German when moving to Germany, it´s a great idea, but not really necessary, as English is taught in the schools there.

The resident troll (family=leporidae)has commented...

If Arabic is NOT TAUGHT at the school, it should not be used to read (not recite, noted) the Pledge of Allegiance.

At most, I would only think to allow those languages taught at the school, and only under supreme duress from the school board.

English is the official language of the US and the recitation of the pledge should only be done in English.

Maybe those multicultural students would be better served to write a paper in English about the origin of the Pledge and the evolutions of the US Flag.

Whether and why such gestures are bad depends on whom you ask. Some people -quite a few, it seems- think they are not bad but good. They prove something. They achieve something. Most of all, they make people FEEL better - which seems to be the principal function of liberal fantasy ideology(If it feels good, do it; make love, not war; sex, drugs and rock and roll; don´t trust anybody over 30 etc.)

As for me, I think they are bad because they are confused and largely sentimental. Instead of indulging in such easy, self-indulgent acting out and political theater, students should be challenged (and permitted!) to discuss the important issues involved. Leftist emotional groupthink seeks to short circuit the phase of critical and analytical reason and go straight to instant gratification. This is poor educational practice.

The great majority of normal people espousing and practicing multi-culti are simply trying to be friendly and hospitable and sensitive to the feelings of others. They really have not stopped to think about the question. They are just being -and feeling- nice.

They are the equivalent of Lenin´s useful bourgeois idiots for the tiny number of hard core radical Left extremists in academia who genuinely hate America and everything it stands for and for who multiculturalism is nothing but a Trojan Horse. Thus multi-culti is simultaneously a harmless expression of goodwill and a dangerous, indeed deadly enemy of America. Scott Fitzgerald said it is the test of a first rate mind to hold contradictory ideas simultaneously. I don´t have any idea what he meant by that, but this could be a case to test it.

"The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American." --Teddy Roosevelt 12 October, 1915

What does a murderous jihadist terrorist have to do to get some recognition for his cause? You hack a British soldier to death in broad daylight on a London street while shouting “Allahu akbar” and then “swear by the almighty Allah” that you’ll never stop fighting, and the U.S. broadcast networks still can’t bring themselves to utter a word about Islam. True, the ABC CBS and NBC evening broadcasts called the attack “terrorism,” but for all the information they gave viewers, the attackers might have been Basque separatists or animal rights zealots. Republican Rep. Darrell Issa declared Thursday that the embattled IRS official who refused to testify Wednesday had no right to do so, and is now looking to haul her back before his committee. The chairman of the House oversight committee made the call after consulting with attorneys about IRS official Lois Lerner´s bizarre appearance before the panel on Wednesday. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told Congress that President Obama’s administration is “overachieving on deficit reduction,” as he defended the president for submitting a budget that never balances. “If anything, we are overachieving on deficit reduction right now, given where we are in terms of the current year and immediate economic needs,” Lew told Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., while testifying Wednesday before the House Financial Services Committee. “So, the goal, you know, should not be to balance the budget right now.” Lew then confirmed that budget policymakers should plan to raise taxes.

A bipartisan group of House members introduced legislation on Wednesday to protect journalists from government snooping. “Freedom of the press is a foundational freedom upon which all of our other freedoms and liberties are based and protected,” said Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.). The Free Flow of Information Act, H.R. 1962, would protect reporters by preventing the government from compelling the disclosure of their source material, except under certain exceptions that must go through judicial review. Those exceptions include cases where it is necessary to prevent an act of terrorism, imminent death, or other harm to national security.
