HONOLULU - Jim Nabors, the Hawaii resident well known for his starring role in the 1960s television sitcom "Gomer Pyle, USMC," married his longtime male partner early this month, he told Hawaii News Now Tuesday. Nabors, 82, said he married his companion of 38 years, Stan Cadwallader, who´s 64, in Seattle on Jan. 15. Nabors declined an on-camera interview but spoke to Hawaii News Now by phone. "I´m 82 and he´s in his 60s and so we´ve been together for 38 years and I´m not ashamed of people knowing, it´s just that it was such a personal thing,

Darn, so it´s really true. I never really believed those rumors about him and Rock Hudson, but apparently he did play for the other team.

Could this explain why Sgt Carter was always ragging on poor Gomer? Must be that Carter was a homophobe.

I wonder if Lou Ann Poovie feels like Gomer used her on those double dates with Sgt Carter and Bunny.

Male homosexuals or male bisexuals have been around since time began. This is not a recent phenomenon. Some of the greatest inventors, war heroes etc have been inclined thus.

The only thing that´s changed in the last 50 years or so is that it´s no longer the love that dare not speak its name. People are no longer hiding in dark corners like they used to. Laws have been abolished, conventions have changed....it´s all part of the process of social progress.

Jim Nabors appears to be happy. At 82, he is more than entitled to his happiness.

For Pete´s sake, the poor guy is gay. So what?

A previous poster has it correct, now it´s for money, so he can leave hs estate to his long-time partner without paying a bunch of taxes.

That makes my point. If the government wasn´t tied up in rewarding/punishing people based on their marital status, this gay marriage stuff would not even be an issue. I don´t care if commited gays want to marry, and niether should anyone else.

Big government - it´s the problem, friends, not the solution.

It undermines real marriage and real families, to the detriment of moral society. Nothing personal, Gomer.

Our nation, once strong and healthy with moral standards and reverence for God and the Bible......is going down the irrelevancy drain as fast as the putrid waters swirl.-----------Do we refuse to learn nothing from history?.....Are we so eager to join the ruins of Rome.----It seems we are.----Now our nation celebrates ´gays and lesbians´ and is probably bullying our Boy Scouts to join them in their debauched lifestyle....-Jim Nabors was beloved by many, but now joins the ranks of many others who fooled us well.----What is wrong & degrading is now considered right.....What was once upheld as right and true, is now laughed at & sneered.-------I pray God has mercy on our nation.

I always loved Gomer. I can remember that stupid voice he´d use, then he´d start singing in that wonderful baritone voice. He never was confrontational on the screen or off, and seems to have lived a quiet, happy life in semi-seclusion. God bless him.

Okay, I´ll catch flack for this, but I´ve believed he was gay for decades. He never hid it, he just did what most of us do and kept his sex life private. He is loved by all who know him personally and seems like the sweetest guy. And not many make 38 years in a relationship. So, congratulations Jim and Stan. I´m not an advocate of gay marriage but if this makes you two happy, then I´m happy for you.

I can´t believe that people didn´t know he was gay. I don´t care if he wants to get "married" in a place where it is legal. I personally do not recognize gay "marriage." To do so, requires a re-definition of marriage and an change in the definitions of husband and wife. It is amazing to me that people want to throw over an institution that is thousands of years old and the bedrock of civilization so easily.

I LOVE Jim Nabors - and I´m glad he hasn´t "flaunted" his lifestyle. But, however much I love him, it´s still a sin in the eyes of God.

Watching Gomer Pyle USMC when I was a young girl brought me many hours of enjoyment. Jim Nabors was so funny and the basic message of the show was that you should try to see what was in a persons heart, and not focus on the exterior or superficial. Gomer was a bungler, but a sincere and well- meaning one. I´m a fan, grateful to a performer for entertaining me with his talent (what a singing voice!)

As to his personal life, I don´t believe that I need to judge him. I serve the Lord who defended the woman taken in adultery, and I don´t believe that when He judges me I will be held to account for being kind or respectful to other human beings. I think I have enough failings of my own to worry about. I respect Jim Nabors and I wish him well.

I´d like to thank some of the other commenters who hold different opinions from mine for giving me a push to think about the Greatest Commandment this morning, though. It has improved my day!

I was just wondering about him recently. Whether he´s still alive.

I always loved Jim Nabors. He came off as such a gentle soul and his talent is/was off the charts.

He lives so quietly. Has so much dignity compared to so much of the entertainment industry. I´m glad I´m from the era that saw him performing in his prime.

In my experience, most people who are quick to condemn homosexuality or homosexuals or to use the Bible to do so are usually poorly read or educated on the subject. This is inexcusable, considering the vast amount of sociological, scientific and Biblical literature and studies on the subject. Most people who read and quote the Bible on this read the Bible through provincial and 21st-century eyes and understandings and without even a minimum knowledge of the original languages of the texts they´re citing and reciting.

This is part of the gay agenda - to shove gay marriage in the face of society. This should never have been reported. It is not news. 82-year olds getting married is nothing new. Homosexuality is not new. This is just the media doing their old games of running down our culture.

The comparisons were inevitable: two guys who became a national punchline after being caught in sex scandals make a bid for a political comeback from disgrace. But once you get past the astonishment and the snickers, the differences are more significant than the similarities between Mark Sanford, the Republican former South Carolina governor elected in a landslide to his old House seat earlier this month, and Anthony Weiner, the Democratic ex-congressman who formally launched his bid for mayor of New York on Wednesday. It is true that both pose tests of the electorate’s capacity for forgiveness. But Sanford

The deadly twister that raked through Oklahoma did an estimated $2 billion in damage, which puts it on track to be the most expensive tornado in U.S. history. That’s the preliminary damage estimate the Oklahoma Insurance Department released Wednesday, two days after a monster twister flattened the city of Moore and killed 24 people, including nine children. The figure was double an earlier estimate. Insurance Department spokeswoman Calley Herth said the monetary damage caused by Monday’s tornado could be greater than the $2 billion in damage from the 2011 tornado that struck Joplin, Mo.
