Grand Crossing shooting: Mom
loses second son to gun violence

All through the afternoon Tuesday, Kimberly Common stood crying near the body of her oldest son Devin, the second son to be lost to gun violence in a little more than a year. "It´s in my face, it´s all over," Common said of her pain. Another son Antonio had been shot and killed in October 2011, and Common said she was still reeling from that loss when she heard Devin was one of three men shot in the 7500 block of South Champlain Avenue around noon Tuesday. "I´m not even healed from that," she said, tears streaming down her face.

It´s not fair... While our hearts go out to a grieving mother who should not be paying this price. Over 97% black women voting for 0bama - again, because of his race. Is that fair to others?

A disaster for her and her murdered son, and we grieve for her. No mother should have her son murdered. And that is the reality. Her son was "murdered" by an evil human being. Her son was not "lost to gun violence" as one might be "lost" (i.e. killed impersonally) by a fire or earthquake. There is no such entity as "gun violence". There is however "murder by an evil human being" who must be apprehended and locked away or executed, so that no other mothers (or fathers) will experience the agony of a murdered son/daughter.

I lost a son to an accident and can´t imagine the pain of losing two, but post 2 is SO RIGHT. She didn´t lose them to gun violence, but to an evil human.

Force congress to pass legislation making ALL crimes committed with a gun a federal felony... with mandatory sentencing!!!

Stop ignoring the criminals! Stop attys from getting killers probation! If faced with mandatory 10, 20, 30 yrs in prison, a killer would think twice about raging.

Indeed, a terrible tragedy compounded. I can only imagine the paths out of Chicago would be a tough move for most people, so lord knows - there are no shortage of souls trapped in that concrete hell-hole...with, as I understand it - some of the toughest ´gun laws´ in the US.

Apparently gun laws have little effect on gang culture, seemingly the biggest ´factor´ in Chicago violence. Go figure.

I used to be a Chicago Police officer in the Grand Crossing (3rd) District and I can tell you that it´s a hellhole there. Our District station was fired on once as well as my patrol car just riding down the street.
On New Year´s Eve at Midnight, we were told not to walk passed any windows in the station for fear of being shot.

The Constitution prevents the kind of legislation #4 is calling for. Following our emotions is why Obama is President, and ObamaCare was passed.

These were most likely gang killings. Outlawing guns will not prevent criminals from having guns, or using them. It didn´t work for alcohol and hasn´t worked for drugs.

If the goal is preventing such killings, legalize drugs. Otherwise, get used to it.

While no doubt many in Chicago and elsewhere are gunned down because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, many of these yewts are gangbanging thugs whom mommy has failed to pay much attention to.

I´d move heaven and earth to get my family to a safer location, no matter the price I had to pay, if it meant taking them out of harm´s way.

Is this tragic? Certainly! But on more than the level of a mom suffered the loss of two children. Will she stick around there to let more of her kids get killed?

Perhaps they should sue entities in the entertainment business for selling nothing but ´gangsta´ culture to the weak minded. Makes infinitely more sense than scapegoating gun manufacturers.

I´m sick of the politicians, "reverends" and media in this town acting like murder is a freak of nature, that the people in the neighborhoods are blameless. We all know why hicago is one of the deadliest cities in this nation no one is willing to admit it.

Maybe this victim was blameless, maybe. But the majority of those killed last year were affiliated with gangs. And I´d bet that majority of the victims and shooters were raised by single moms, never knowing their pops.

Microcosm of why reasoning with terrorist types is impossible, and why you shouldn´t send F 16s to them.

No one cares about Chicago. Over 500 murders last year and no politician cared.

That´s because they couldn´t exploit it like Newtown. The body count is only relevant if it can be exploited!

As for the residents of Chicago, even if the Mom´s are on top of their kids, the lure of the gangs, money, women and drugs trumps the mom, except in very few cases. As odd as it sounds, moving is not an option due to expense, family responsibilities, or just plain fear.

If they move from Chicago, they may end up in DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, or Newark. None of them are any better.

I am not so sure that a very long prison sentence would really stop anyone with murder on their mind. However, it would get them off the street if they commit the crime.

Condolences to any and all who have lost someone to senseless violence. Now, that aside, people of chicago and other places of excessive violence need to look in the mirror and ask what are they going to do about it? You know banning guns won´t do it. How about starting with all the liberal politicians who have done nothing for years. Throw them all out and look for decent, honest, god-fearing people who really care about all life (including the unborn and the old). Hold all politicians accountable for all their indiscretions and throw them out if they lie, cheat, steal, and look only to demonize and get re-elected. Start by holding them responsible and things will improve. They need to work for you, not party or ideology. Start by getting Rahm´s out of your cities.

This raises a few questions, where was the boys father? There is no mention of him. Knowing they were living in a free fire zone of a gang ridden neighborhood, why did the family continue to live there? Were the two boys themselves gang members or associates? These people in Chicago have the government they voted for, so they should not complain.

Now that you´re alone again, Ms.Common, I have some advice for you. Do the following in this exact order: 1. Find a man. 2. Observe him closely for a minimum of two years (absolutely no hanky-panky). 3. Marry him. 4. Make sure he can provide all the money that your family will need for 40 years. 5. Have babies. 6. Stay home an take care of them. 7. Make sure that the husband/father takes his kids to lots of ball games and buys them hot dogs.

Who in their right mind would name their daughter Jermaka?
Who on this site believes the lad was going to the store to buy coffee?
Why is it that so many baby mommas are willing to reap the benefits of their chillun who are gangbangers, drug dealers, and/ or thieves?

My guess is that Momma and sister are on the dole, so moving from Chicago, or at least from that dangerous neighborhood, would not mean the loss of a high paying job. They can get their free goodies anywhere!

The price of membership to many gangs is to kill somebody - anybody. These kids could have just as well been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anytime you see one of those animals with a teardrop tattooed under his eye you know he has paid that price. This country is now infested with their type. The best thing to do is to move your family to the country and stay out of the urban zoos that the government has created.

If you are taught to value human life, you could carry a million guns and never hurt anyone with them. Chicago has no regard for human life and they have been taught that over decades.

Either Chicago has no gun laws (it does), or gun-related violence are not positively correlated with the absence of gun laws. So, why take away guns from legal owners when the mass shootings are happening in "gun-free" zones? If the argument is that the guns come in from outside gun-free zones, making the whole US gun-free won´t change anything because Mexican and Canadian guns would still sneak across.

Besides, the most heinous bloodletting has always been perpetrated by governments with concentrated power (cf. Mao´s China, Hitler´s Nazi Germany and Stalin´s Soviet Russia), not by individuals bent on evil. Obama wants all the guns to be kept by the the police (and not the military - otherwise Fort Hood´s soldiers would have stopped the carnage instantly). I think Obama is a cold-hearted person who would potentially dwarf Mao, Stalin and Hitler in barbarism if he did wield absolute power.

I am sorry for her loss, but she needs to get her community organizer and the other mothers down to Twinkle Toes office to protest.

Why isn´t Trayvon´s mother, Jesse, Al or even Louie, helping these women ? Never mind. It´s black on black crime.

WASHINGTON — Schoolchildren from New Jersey shore communities battered by Superstorm Sandy will join Michelle Obama for a garden harvest next week. The White House says the first lady will also be joined Tuesday by students who helped plant the crops last month. The New Jersey students are from Union Beach Memorial School in Union Beach and Long Beach Island Grade School in Ship Bottom. Both schools were damaged in last October’s storm. Both also teach their students about healthy eating, which is one of the first lady’s causes. The students who helped plant lettuce, broccoli and various other crops

There have been a number of new revelations this week in the ever expanding scope of the IRS scandal. However, even with so many developments in the investigation of this egregious scandal, there was extremely limited coverage of the unfolding of this affair in the morning news of many more liberal stations like ABC, NBC, and CBS. In contrast, Fox News devoted almost 15 minutes in their programming on Thursday morning’s Fox & Friends show to enlighten the public of all of the new information in the scandal. The only other station to provide any coverage

In a long-awaited speech at the National Defense University, Barack Obama claimed that the nature of international terror attacks threatening the United States has changed since Sept. 11, 2001, with ´no large-scale attacks´ on America occurring since then. But his definition of ´large-scale attacks,´ his speech made clear, doesn´t include the 2013 Boston Marathon attack that wounded hundreds, the 2012 Benghazi terror attack that injured dozens and killed four, and the 2009 attack at Fort Hood that killed 13 and injured 30. All those attacks had the potential to leave far more American bodies in their wake than they actually did.

Another major political speech, another Code Pink heckling. During President Obama‘s counterterrorism policy speech at National Defense University on Thursday afternoon, Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin interrupted when the topic turned to the closing of the military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. “I’m about to address it, ma’am,” Obama said as Benjamin went off about the hunger strike currently taking hold amongst Gitmo detainees. “Why don’t you sit down? But you’ve got to let me speak.” “You are commander-in-chief! You can close Gitmo today!”

WASHINGTON — President Obama on Thursday announced new restraints on targeted killings and narrowed the scope of the long struggle with terrorists as part of a transition to a day he envisions when the nation will no longer be on the war footing it has been on since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In a widely anticipated speech at the National Defense University, Mr. Obama offered his most expansive defense of the drone war he has waged since taking office, but he signaled that he planned to wind down the strikes, which have stirred controversy

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.
