| A 15-year-old schoolboy could save millions of lives after he invented a new, low-cost test that can detect the early stages of a deadly form of cancer. Jack Andraka from Crownsville, Maryland, developed a simple dip-stick test for levels of mesothelin, a biomarker for early stage pancreatic cancer found in blood and urine. It promises to revolutionise treatment of the disease, which currently kills 19 out of 20 sufferers after five years - largely because its so difficult to detect until its final stages. Jack´s invention, for which was last month awarded the grand prize of $75,000

I´m sure Jack didn´t invent that by himself.
He must have gotten his inspiration from Emperor Obama, who will no doubt claim credit (and half the patent royalties)

Wow! I hope he got a patent on his process before going public. I note he plans to market the test. Somehow, I think he may be stymied in that effort by our government, which likes to punish innovation.

My mother and her brother both died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 67. Pancreatic cancer is like a ticking time bomb for me and my 3 brothers. We would so love a chance to have a test like this.
Pancreatic cancer is a terrible cancer and for 30 years since my mother´s death there has been no change in the statistics.
God bless Jack. If he manages an early test he will change the world for the better. Thank goodness his mother didn´t decide he was an inconvenience and abort him.

Mr Jobs did not die from pancreatic cancer but from neuroinsulinomas.....85 percent of which are caused by the Hepatitis C virus,plain and simple.

This is good news.
I lost my spouse to pancreatic cancer last year. 6 weeks from diagnosis to death. (He was not a candidate for the drastic surgery required to remove the tumor) called the Whipple procedure.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

Steven Miller, the now former acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, is the latest victim of ritual sacrifice.
