Dem. Senator: Washington´s Spending
Problem Exists Only on Fox News

Weekly Standard, by Daniel Halper

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/29/2013 9:48:33 AM

Democratic senator Mary Landrieu said on the Senate floor that Washington´s spending problem exists only on Fox News: "I am not going to keep cutting the discretionary budget, which by the way is not out of control, despite what you hear on Fox News," said Landrieu. The Louisiana senator did say that entitlement spending is a major problem. "It is mandatory spending that is rising rapidly, because the greatest generation that gave us the greatest nation the world has ever heard is dying and they need hospice care, they need Social Security, and they need hospitals."

Comments:
I´m so sick of these pathological liars. Their behavior is absolutely criminal in alleging there is no spending problem. This is the entire article.

I hope the voters of Louisiana send this brain dead bleach blonde to the liberal retirement home. She has been the most unimpressive La senator since Bennett Johnston.

The democrats view of the economy is appalling. They do not pass a budget for four years, because they cannot contain their wild spending. People, we cannot keep printing dollars to pay our debts, we cannot keep buying our own treasuries just because no one else will buy them. We MUST stop spending. 0bama and his democrats have spent more in four years than all the other presidents combined. It has to stop, and we must put people in charge who understands how an economy works.

Never a dull moment watching the people who basically have no reason *not* to pretend they have a bottomless purse. It certainly isn´t like they aren´t ´set for life´ after a few years on the political dole.

Never have so many doing so little...tried to control as much of other people´s money as what passes for ´liberal accounting´.

One would think liberals might learn something from watching France and Greece basically turn into third-world hellholes over their ´social largesse´ - but then again, that would be assuming liberals actually have the capacity for learning anything past Dogma101...

The Greatest Generation arerolling over in their graves as they watch this country go to hell in the hands of the progressives they were fighting in Europe.

Those who remain here are happy their time is almost up so they don´t have to witness the complete destruction of the country they loved and fought for.

How said that our generation is allowing this.

Landrieu is from an old New Orleans family; father was New Orleans Mayor at one time, brother is now Mayor after serving as Lt. Gov. under Blanco. Landrieu probably will be re-elected.

As for her statement, well, she would say that, wouldn´t she? Louisiana has been a beneficiary state since around the mid-1970s or so. Landrieu is part of the problem.

Not to pick apart her whole statement, but hospitals are CLOSING because of Obamacare.
If the immigration package passes, the whole
health care system faces a dire future. There are fewer and fewer primary care physicians and the E>R>´s will be more overwhelmed than ever.

Well, she´s only talking about discretionary spending, which is only about 10% of the entire budget.

No, discretionary spending is not out of control, but spending overall sure is considering you´re borrowing over $1 trillion each year just to cover that spending.

Discretionary spending was about 1.3 trillion last year. Non-defense was probably less than 700 billion. It´s a problem and rising too fast but it´s a drop in the bucket compared to entitlement spending.

The sad thing is that Obama´s new Treasury toadie Jack Lew won´t even discuss entitlements and he speaks for Obama on budget matters.

Mary Landrieu has been in Washington lo these many years, and yet she does not realize Social Security is not part of the budget running up the deficits.

Perhaps she needs to start with the Social Security Act of 1935. Is the word stupid or dumb?

Researchers at Princeton and Northwestern universities have pored over 1,800 US policies and concluded that America is an oligarchy. Instead of looking out for the majority of the country’s citizens, the US government is ruled by the interests of the rich and the powerful, they found. No great surprises there, then. But the government is not the only American power whose motivations need to be rigourously examined. Some 2,400 miles away from Washington, in Silicon Valley, Google is aggressively gaining power with little to keep it in check. It has cosied up to governments around the world so effectively that its chairman,

Then-Sens. Joe Biden and John Kerry were both opposed to Hillary Clinton’s 1993 health-care reform program, according to documents released by the Clinton presidential library. Clinton marked a handwritten “No” beside Biden’s name on Clinton’s list of Capitol Hill lawmakers that she needed to win over for her universal health care law, known as the “Clinton health plan” or “Hillarycare,” to pass. John Kerry, meanwhile, was marked with a “Probably not.” “Hillarycare” ended up dying in the Democratic-controlled Senate in 1994 without coming to a floor vote. As vice president, Biden has been a loyal supporter of the Obama administration’s

Wayne Crews of the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Alexis de Tocqueville, author of the classic Democracy in America, were born in different times and places. But the French aristocrat and American think tanker have the measure of the federal behemoth in the age of Obama. Writing in 1835, Tocqueville eloquently predicted how it would function, while Crews today supplies in his annual compilation of federal rules and regulations, “10,000 Commandments,” the hard numbers that describe the behemoth´s contemporary reach and costs. It is always worthwhile to revisit de Tocqueville’s description of what he called the

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
