Blighted home that says Detroit is going

A vandalised home covered with red spray paint and smashed windows, sits vacant in an east side neighborhood of Detroit. The street used to be a busy hub of families, but its occupants have fled their homes leaving whole blocks empty and dark. The city´s budget problems have deepened to such an extent that it could run out of cash in a matter of weeks or months and ultimately be forced into what would be the largest-ever Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy filing in the United States. Signs of decline are everywhere in Detroit--crime is rising with the murder rate of

Sadly, a lot of the criminals are now infiltrating the suburbs. Gettin´ scary.

Detroit is simply the warm up act for the rest of America´s cities run by corrupt Democratic machines. The term, white flight, impacts all of the blue state cities, leaving poor blacks, illegals and overpaid civil servants who serve mostly themselves.

My husband and I were able to run away from Detroit in 1986. Where will we run when Detroit comes to us in the form of Obama-style Progressivism?

How is this the Governor´s fault? It´s years of abuse perpetrated by the Democratic Party and their union allies in Michigan. And, if there is a Governor to blame, it would be former Governor, Jennifer Granholm.

Detroit, another fabulous Liberal success story!

Find any city run by liberal Democrats or even liberal Republicans, and you will find blight, corruption, crime and decay. It´s a law of their ideology, rooted in "fairness".

Use google earth to look at east Detroit, it is stunning. Whole neighborhoods have simply been buldozed away, there are sections of neatly laid out blocks only scattered buildings. I´ve seen pictures of a few high rises with trees growing out of the 20th floor window.

The article goes out of its way to note that Michigan now has a "majority White" republican administration. They fail to note anything about the long Democrat/Union history that visited this debacle. The excesses of these Dem/Union hacks now consume 49% of all revenues simply to pay retirees benefits and current employees. If my math is correct Detroit now owes three times it annual revenues.

And the Detroit city council´s answer? Why more federal money to prop it all up. Other peoples money, Obamas stash. Bankruptcy is required, for Detroit and many other cities and even states. The crushing burden of public sector union giveaways must be curbed and ultimately cut. The golden Goose (taxpayers) is dead, the gravy train is too bloated to move. Its time to tie public service salaries and benefits to the private sector norms, unions must be forbidden from political activities, they cannot be allowed to "hire" their own bosses. All public sector contracts should be approved by those who will be required to pay the bills and negotiated taxpayer advocates, not officials dependant on union money for their own jobs.

If nothing is done in 20 years we will all wake up realizing our own once fine town is the new Detroit.

How does bankruptcy save this city? Even if all that goes well, how does the city attract productive hardworking citizens and entrepreneurs? The city will still have the same (but more bitter as this will be a racist bankruptcy) voters. The city will still have the same oppressive laws designed to ensure a one race city. The city will continue to have the vast majority of its citizens in the handout give me mindset. The city is doomed and there is nothing that can save it now. One can change the finances, but one can´t change the problem and the problem is Detroit´s voters.

Unfortunately the same can be said about our Federal government. The problem is not the corrupt politicians but the voters that elect them.

What #5 said. It was that "cool chick" jenny granholm who told us that she was going to make Detroit a "cool city". For 8 years she ran her mouth and for 8 years the city stayed on the road to destruction. It´s over for Detroit. The problem IMO is that obama and his demonrats along with the so-called "msm", are doing the same thing all over this country and no one seems able to stop them. Where will WE go, indeed.

Ah yes, Detroit, the shining example of liberalism on full display. I live 10 minutes from Detroit and this has been going on for years. Used to work downtown years ago when it was fairly safe during work hours. Now, won´t even consider working there due to the drive thru the ghetto.

And diversity is another great liberal dream that has spread Detroit rot into the neighboring suburbs.

Seriously, don´t you think Detroit would be a better training ground for these "army" training drills going on in Miami and Houston seeing as it´s pretty desolate. Oh, maybe too desolate for the purpose of that training they´re doing because the takeover of America involves masses of people...Now that stuff is getting me weird..

The sad part is the evidence that has been taking place since the 60´s. 50+ years of failure, decay, destruction has not deterred the onslaught of leftist ooze into every fibre of American society. Welfare, foodstamps, section 8 housing, jobs programs etc. etc. etc. has done nothing but erode and destroy the American family and hence American cities and the nation. RIP

what is amazing is that obamavoters do not care that this is what happens to ALL cities, counties and states run by democrats...unless they are 90% white like vermont...90% of obamavoters live in or near to squalor so it is normal for them...the other 10% of obamavoters live in very white or gated white communities and do not care...watch colorado...used to be 90% white, educated, employed and upperclass, but it will soon be infested with potheads, crime will skyrocket and minorities and illegals will flood there.

Most of those leaving Detroit are going to the inner ring of suburbs such as Eastpointe (which famously changed it´s name from East Detroit), the south end of Warren, Roseville, Southfield etc. They are bringing crime along with them. Just today there are stories in the Detroit News about bank robberies in Berkeley and Royal Oak and drug store robberies in Roseville. It is pretty amazing to drive through parts of Detroit and see an empty city block except for one or two homes.

A friend of mine moved into downtown Detroit about two years ago. She had just finished renovating a nice little house in a northern suburb that has had its own problems but has been rebounding for awhile now. Her Detroit townhouse was designed by a famous mid-century architect (which was what attracted her in the first place) in a 1960s urban renewal development. The area had been the hub of the black community, economically and culturally, but was razed for the freeway and the neighborhood´s residents were pushed into the Projects. My friend has put a lot of work into her townhouse, but it´s still a beautiful little bubble floating in a toilet.

In a major speech to military and political leaders, Mr Obama said the US could not wage "a boundless global war on terror" but must face a new reality where threats come from regional jihadists and home-grown extremists. "Our systematic effort to dismantle terrorist organisations must continue. But this war, like all wars, must end," Mr Obama said. "That´s what history advises. That´s what our democracy demands." As he announced the most significant shift in US counter-terrorism since the fall of the World Trade Centre, Mr Obama said he would restrict his own signature policy of ordering drone strikes

If I had slept through yesterday, woken up this morning, and gone online, I might have thought the EDL beheaded someone. There is a lot of displacement on Twitter and FB, as if it´s all too politically difficult and socially awkward to talk about the killers´ ideology, or the place of religion in that ideology. So we talk instead about the EDL, or John Reid, or drones, or "the religion of peace" or say "Christians kill too" or "what about Anders Breivik", or, well, anything but the brute fact that the murderers, like so very many before them, shouted "Allahu

Republican senator Ted Cruz thinks he knows how to prevent Texas being swamped by demographics. The Senate amendment he is proposing on immigration reform would deny all illegal immigrants access to benefits and a pass to citizenship. The context for Cruz´s intervention is what Greg Abbott, the Republican Attorney General for Texas, last month described as "an assault far more dangerous than what the leader of North Korea threatened when he said he was going to add Austin, Texas, as one of the recipients of his nuclear weapons". That´s the threat of Texas "turning blue" (Democrat) and taking its 38

The US State Department has issued a statement in the aftermath of yesterday’s barbaric killing of a British soldier by Islamist militants in Woolwich. It reads in full: The United States condemns today’s attack in the Woolwich district of London. We stand with our U.K. allies in the face of such senseless violence. Our thoughts and condolence are with the family of the victim and the British people. More than 100 members of far-right group the English Defence League gathered near the scene of the suspected terrorist attack last night.[Snip] Riot police holding shields formed a cordon around the area as the EDL members waved flags and chanted ´no surrender to the Muslim scum´, ‘Rule Britannia’ and ‘England’. The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
