It’s has been widely assumed this morning by some immigration advocates (and by yours truly, too) that the new immigration reform plan’s process of citizenship for the country’s 11 million undocumented immigrants is contingent on a commission of Southwestern officials declaring the border secure. Not true. I’ve now got clarification from Senate staff working on the bill, and it turns out that the enforcement commission’s judgments will only be advisory, and are entirely nonbinding. Congress’ actions will not be dictated by what this commission concludes;
Republicans may, in the end, have won the frustration factor. Where are these new citizens, even the brightest and best, going to get jobs? When they see how the democ rats have used them, they are not going to be happy. Remember, they are, I believe, smarter than your average Obama voter. If they are really here for jobs and opportunity, they will discover it is best to vote republican.
When Bush was in office, (how long has it been now 6 or 7 years since we were talking about the illegal immigration issue ?) they were using a figure of 12 million plus.
Now they are trying to say we have fewer illegals than we did 6 years ago ???
I would agree with a n earlier comment above... my estimate is at least 20 million illegals (and that´s not even counting the hezbolah and other muslim terror cells that have come in through our southern border in the last 10 years or so)
Rubio got to Hannity and Drudge. This amnesty deal is getting the blackout treatment. Who can normal citizens trust these days? Nobody: not John McCain, not Boehner, not Tea Party fraud Rubio, not Hannity, not Drudge. The GOP is a dilapidated shack that needs to be demolished. There is no competing with a voting public that has been raised on free government cheese and brainwashed from Kindergarten to graduate school. No trophy candidates like Rubio or Liz Cheney are every going to change that fact. Besides, Hillary is going to sweep 2016 -- she already has the blessing of Ryan and Rubio. She´s already gearing up for it with her little softball interview with Greta Van Feminist. Time to burn the place down and move on. Game over.
Before the wimpy Republicans agree to any sort of Democrat legalization program actually swinging into action, they had better make sure that all the enforcement components of the deal are already in place and working, especially an enhanced e-verify type system to keep illegal aliens out of US employment, if not, the Democrats and their ethnic and immigrant rights advocates will sabotage those enforcement components administratively, through the courts, and in future Congresses. That what happened after the 1986 amnesty.
The deal should only give longtime illegal aliens a conditional immigration status, that allows them to stay here indefinitely, to work, and to travel to and from the USA. To go any further in "a path to citizenship" the legalized aliens should have to qualify for an immigrant visa to get permanent residence, as all legal immigrants have to do today, and thereafter meet all the requirements for naturalization, as all legal immigrants have to also do today.
The Democrats bottom line will always be a "direct path to citizenship" for just about all illegal aliens allowing the legalized aliens to progress almost automatically to permanent residence and US citizenship with US voting rights, knowing that about 80% of them would become Democrat voters as always has been the case in the past. The Democrats would never be doing that if they ever thought that a plurality of the legalized aliens would have an epifinany and vote for Republicans in the future. You can bet on that. Most illegal aliens are Mexicans and as the former Mexican President has said many times, Mexicans love being Mexicans and do not need or want US citizenship, they just want to work in the USA and be treated with dignity, so why are the Democrats rushing to grant them US citizenship?
Anything put together by a group with McCain, Graham, Rubio and that other guy is likely to be as out of step with rest of the GOP as is possible. And the chance of something from them getting through the House would be slim to none.
I think that very little of the Obama agenda, or the Obama-Schumer agenda will get anywhere. It´s gridlock time.
This is the Republican reaction to the election. They feel they have to ´reach out´ to get voters. They were told this repeatedly by the liberal media this is why they lost the election, remember? Who cares what it costs taxpayers, what it does to the economy, as long as they gain some perceived ´votes´.
Sad thing is, they will likely lose more votes to their actions than gains due to conservatives bailing to Independent, and voting against them.
The GOP is imploding, all by itself. Obama doesn´t need to go for the throat.
These Republicans do not GET it! Illegal Mexicans like free stuff too..the democrats are the party of free stuff. In a stupid effort to get more votes (which won´t happen because Republicans are supposed to be fiscally responsible..HOW can they be FOR illegals? Answer (it´s not their money used for the free stuff).
Why should Hispanic voters cast votes for the weak kneed Republicans after all the illegal aliens have been granted amnesty? There is no reason, as the Democrats will always out bid the Republicans in creating new rights and increased benefits and services to that population group.
Most illegal aliens are poor generally uneducated people who have low incomes and big families and need social welfare services to survive here. Historically immigrants of that class have become Democrat voters. There is no evidence that such a historical perspective will change, as the liberal Democrats already run and control the ethnic communities where most illegal aliens reside.
If the Republicans go along with a liberal Democrat plan that gives just about automatic US citizenship to all illegal aliens within a few years along with US voting rights, the Republicans will have committed what amounts to long-term political suicide when the Democrats use their many millions of new voters to change the political balance of the country greatly in their favor. Once that happens the Republicans will never again be able to win national elections and it will become clear why the Republicans are called the stupid party.
What did they earn? Contempt. Richly merited. Don´t blame this on Obama. Don´t blame this on the Democrats. Of such, we expect no less than concerted efforts to damage the nation and the society. No. THIS kind of garbage belongs at the feet of the RINO´s in the Stupid Party. Among them being Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Marco Rubio, George W. and Jeb Bush. Contempt, that they´ve earned, and the undying enmity of the citizens of this land. I spit on their shadow.
Folks you might want to start selling everything you have which ties you to this country and start looking for an alternate place to live. I still don´t know where that is, but the USA is going to go down the toilet real fast (ie much faster than it already is) if this passes.
What did the Repubs prove? Latinos will NEVER vite Repub because the Repubs will not give out handouts. The GOP are nothing but foolish SUCKERS. I have to laugh when the Democraps claim they want to help the RINO´S get the Latino vote.
Here is what will happen folks, I will map this out. Cut it out, put it on your fridge, and watch EVERY single part of what I say come true.
1) For the TWENTY million, not suddenly 11, but the TWENTY million illegal aliens, this new deal will give them amnesty.
2) There will be some ´feel good" measures in there, such as paying a fee, back taxes, etc. However, the ACLU and other groups will sue about this, and these "good, hardworking immigrants" will not pay a cent.
3) There will be no crackdown on paying these people under the table, or any serious work on the stealing of others´ identities and phony identifications. So, we will welcome and give citizenship to all these people, many of whom will not pay taxes.
4) We will allow them to bring over family members so that "families are not torn apart". Which will turn 20 million aliens into 40-60 million.
5) For the minority that actually do file a tax return, they can claim all their children and their "poverty status" and pay no taxes, perhaps get additional money sent to them.
6) All these recently arrived family members will get free medicine, school, college grants, paid for by the citizens of this country.
7) If you speak out about this, you will be labeled racist. You may be charged with a hate crime, putting your job and family at risk.
8) Your taxes will go up to accommodate.
9) Some will be happy. The liberals will get more voters, ensuring them a strong voting block. The Republicans will get an endless supply of cheap labor for their big business backers.
10) We are going to lose the Senate in the next election.
Thank you #25, I meant the House. And yes, I think it will be lost.
The momentum of illegal aliens converting to legal alien voters, the rise in minorities, the general dumbing down of Americans, and the rise of wimpified men and women voting with their vaginas likely has doomed us.
We survived Johnson and Carter, but with not nearly the amount of issues mentioned above.
She´s no stranger to the equestrian stage. Raising concerns about consumer privacy, California´s health exchange has given insurance agents the names and contact information for tens of thousands of people who went online to check out coverage but didn´t ask to be contacted. The Covered California exchange said it started handing out this consumer information this week as part of a pilot program to help people enroll ahead of a Dec. 23 deadline to have health insurance in place by Jan. 1.State officials said they are only trying to help potential customers find insurance and sign up in time. But some insurance brokers and consumers who were
ST. PAUL, Minn. Jeff Ansorge once commanded a staff of 17 and made around $80,000 a year as executive chef at a posh downtown Minneapolis restaurant where a 24-ounce dry aged Porterhouse steak goes for $48. But he gave it all up to become the head cook of a Salvation Army soup kitchen, where the meals are free. Now he brings his culinary skills to bear making salmon, ribs and stews for the poor and homeless who come to The Salvation Army Eastside Corps Community Center in St. Paul. For the Thanksgiving meal that’s being served Wednesday, Ansorge planned a traditional
The National Park Service is not interested in coming up with plans to let states pay to keep parks open should another government shutdown occur, a service official testified late last week to a House subcommittee.Park Service Comptroller Bruce Sheaffer said a bill to require such planning for all 401 national parks could take too much time and money — a position that was blasted as “atrocious” by the subcommittee chairman. The Provide Access and Retain Continuity Act was one of two bills in response to the October shutdown of the federal government, when the closure of parks like the
They work until 11 at night, lug 40-pound garment bags throughout the city and get scolded for not adhering tape to mood boards correctly. And yet being a Condé Nast intern remains one of the most coveted, sought-after unpaid jobs in town.To an aspiring media-ite, a Condé internship is a stiletto stacked in prestige wrapped in promises of opportunity. It is a fancy incubator for future media power players: Fashion designer Whitney Port, author Lauren Conrad and beauty blogger Emily Weiss all got their start interning at the media mammoth. So you can imagine the surprise when, last month, Condé
The Obama administration plans to delay by a full month the open enrollment period for Obamacare´s second year, in a move that a Republican campaign strategist called ´nakedly political.´ According to Healthcare.gov, the Department of Health and Human Service´s official online portal for the Affordable Care Act, enrollment for 2015 is scheduled to begin on October 15, 2014 and end on December 7. But an HHS official said Thursday that the schedule has been bumped back, beginning on November 15, 2014 and ending on January 15, 2015. That timetable will ensure that the midterm elections come and go before the new
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina said Tuesday that it will raise rates as much as 24 percent on 2013 individual health insurance plans that are being extended next year. The increase is double the price inflation for the same health plans just a year ago, but many Blue Cross customers who have grumbled about rising costs in past years are cheering the news this time. The health plans in question were slated for elimination under the Affordable Care Act, the nation’s health care law, but Blue Cross said last week it would offer the plans next year. President
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
