For an adult who chose to come here illegally, no, I don´t think he should have a path to citizenship as a result of his action.

However, for his minor children who he brought with him, who have grown up in this country and who may barely even know the country of their birth...yes, they should have a path to citizenship. These kids are placed in a horrible situation. The U.S. may be the only ´home´ they remember. For us to hold it against a 2 year old for his entire life because Dad brought him here illegally - no, the punishment doesn´t fit the crime.

I listened to Sen. Rubio´s immigration plan twice and I really like it. Why doesn´t the Republican party buy some television air time and let the Senator explain it to the American people?

The deal shouldn´t just be for the current illegals here, but we need to increase the LEGAL quota on immigration NOW.

The current illegals will need to apply, fill out the necessary paperwork, pay an application fee ($3000-5000 each), and wait in line like everyone else.
It´s humane and puts the status in a LEGAL process.

But, we need to increase the LEGAL quota and state we´d like say 30-50 million new immigrants over the next 20 years.

Bring them from India, China, Australia, Germany, etc...

It will invigorate the country with LEGAL immigrants looking to achieve the American dream. Looking for homes, creating jobs.

Sorry Juan, even though the Senate and the WH are both potentially pro-amnesty, this time, unlike in 2007, the House is in firm control of the GOP. Not much is going to get through there.

Even the Senate is unlikely as only the most pro-amnesty GOP Senators will vote for a ´path-to-citizenship´. When Bush was in control, he managed to get some waffling GOP Senators to support him purely out of ´´party loyalty´´ or some such. This time those guys are voting NO!

Allowing a criminal alien invader a "path to citizenship" that does not include a) filing in his "home" country and especially b) waiting in line behind every legal immigrant who has filed in his home country is exactly the same as allowing a bank robber to be exempt from all punishment if he can only avoid capture for a set number of years.

They have a path to citizenship. In fact many paths: Its I-5 to Tijuana, or I-10 to Ciudad Juarez, or US77 to Matamoros, to name a few.

Even a fool would know that if 12-20 million illegal aliens are legalized and put on a "path to citizenship" that eventually about 80% of the former legalized aliens who would register to vote would become Democrat voters, that´s the way it has always been. By voting for that, the wimpy Republicans would be committed long-term political suicide by destabilizing the political balance that now exists in this country to the favor of the Democrats big time.

When you listen to McCain´s comments on this issue you can see why the Republicans are known as the stupid party.

There is no need to rush to grant US citizenship and US voting rights to illegal aliens, the vast majority of who would be perfectly happy to accept a conditional immigration status that allowed them to reside here indefinitely, to work, and to travel to and from the USA as long as they complied with the immigration laws. As the Presidente de Mexico has said, Mexicans like being Mexicans, and most do not need or want US citizenship.
