McCain to GOP: Accept
path to citizenship in
immigration-reform bill

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Jeremy Herb

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said that the Republican Party has to accept a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants as part of an immigration-reform package. McCain said on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday that a group of bipartisan senators would be announcing “principles” on immigration reform this week, which he said was similar to a plan unveiled during President George W. Bush’s second term that ultimately failed. McCain said there’s one big reason that his party has to loosen its opposition to

They have to accept the path to citizenship?? How about securing the borders and enforcing the laws on the books before anything is done. 0bama and his regime through DHS and DOJ refuse to follow the rule of law and we´re expected to agree with them on everything. It´s outrageous. 0bama will just issue another Executive Order, who needs congress. s/o

The great thing about being a senator is never having to admit you were ever wrong. John was a big supporter of the Arab Spring, intervention in Libya, and Huma/Hillary, yet is never confronted on these or any of his many errors in judgment. Every new day he feels free to come before the microphones and pontificate. Every day is Groundhog Day in the US Senate, and McCain resembles Punxatawney Phil very strongly, come to think of it.

There couldn´t be a worse point man for the GOP to put out there as McCain.

one of the more laughable aspects of this is getting illegals topay fines and back taxes. How do you even figure out how much tax they owe and the government will also make loans to these people to pay the fines. Good luck collecting those loans.

Yep, just accept that we´re no longer a nation of laws, as Zero proves every day of the week by his continued existence in the WH. The GOP gains nothing from caving once again, as the enemedia will give Zero full credit for anything that transpires.

Please Arizona, retire this old fool.

Hey McPain,
Why not just close down the border gates completely and let everyone come in.

Stop playing this idiotic game of visas, passports, green cards, apprehension of illegals, no apprehension, deportation, no deportation, amnesty, no amnesty, etc.

Give them driver licenses, medical care, voting rights, instate tuition, tuition assistance, welfare, unemployment benefits, and free tacos, burritos, tortillas, beans, and rice at any restaurant of their choosing.

#6, it´s called an incentive. An incentive to break the law. Sorry for the kids, but the parents of those kids need to be responsible. Yup, if I had a kid and could come here illegally but my kid could be a full, legal American citizen, I´d probably do it, too. Sweet thoughts, rabbit, but think unintended consequences.

Once we fully accept that those that violated our laws should be forgiven and allowed to what they stole we should next consider forgiving bank robbers and allowing them to keep their loot. Bank robber don´t have enough votes or politicians would be urging their forgiveness.

This is precisely why McCain is invited on the Sunday shows. The CrapMedia knows McCain will turn on his own. This puts all conservative leaning republicans on the spot having to answer why they are `out of step` with the likes of McCain and Lindsey Graham.

It`s as if McCain learned n-o-t-h-i-n-g during the 2008 campaign.

Anyone still think the GOP will hold the House in 2014?

The deal shouldn´t just be for the current illegals here, but we need to increase the LEGAL quota on immigration NOW.

The current illegals will need to apply, fill out the necessary paperwork, pay an application fee ($3000-5000 each), and wait in line like everyone else.
It´s humane and puts the status in a LEGAL process.

But, we need to increase the LEGAL quota and state we´d like say 30-50 million new immigrants over the next 20 years.

Bring them from India, China, Australia, Germany, etc...

It will invigorate the country with LEGAL immigrants looking to achieve the American dream. Looking for homes, creating jobs.

Sorry Juan, even though the Senate and the WH are both potentially pro-amnesty, this time, unlike in 2007, the House is in firm control of the GOP. Not much is going to get through there.

Even the Senate is unlikely as only the most pro-amnesty GOP Senators will vote for a ´path-to-citizenship´. When Bush was in control, he managed to get some waffling GOP Senators to support him purely out of ´´party loyalty´´ or some such. This time those guys are voting NO!

The family of a convicted bank robber do NOT get to keep the stolen money.
My kids went to private schools, but I have been paying school taxes for 51 years now..why should I keep paying for lawbreakers to benefit?

Not only no, but Heck NO!!
Apprehended car thieves don´t get to keep the car if they´re driving their kids to school in it. There are a lot of sad stories, some quite touching, that are used to seek justification for lawbreakers.
So?
Nor am I terribly convinced by the calls for increased legal immigration, either. There was a time before the town was known as "Dearbornistan". Remember? There was a time before hordes of Somalia heathens stunk up western Tennessee with their gutter religion. Remember? All the fruits of LEGAL immigration. To the damage of the nation and the culture. We can absorb only so many, and they must be those who wish to become unhyphenated Americans. McPain has forgotten.

Allowing a criminal alien invader a "path to citizenship" that does not include a) filing in his "home" country and especially b) waiting in line behind every legal immigrant who has filed in his home country is exactly the same as allowing a bank robber to be exempt from all punishment if he can only avoid capture for a set number of years.

At Disneyland--and most other amusement parks--"line jumpers" get thrown out, not rewarded!

Even a fool would know that if 12-20 million illegal aliens are legalized and put on a "path to citizenship" that eventually about 80% of the former legalized aliens who would register to vote would become Democrat voters, that´s the way it has always been. By voting for that, the wimpy Republicans would be committed long-term political suicide by destabilizing the political balance that now exists in this country to the favor of the Democrats big time.

When you listen to McCain´s comments on this issue you can see why the Republicans are known as the stupid party.

There is no need to rush to grant US citizenship and US voting rights to illegal aliens, the vast majority of who would be perfectly happy to accept a conditional immigration status that allowed them to reside here indefinitely, to work, and to travel to and from the USA as long as they complied with the immigration laws. As the Presidente de Mexico has said, Mexicans like being Mexicans, and most do not need or want US citizenship.

Researchers at Princeton and Northwestern universities have pored over 1,800 US policies and concluded that America is an oligarchy. Instead of looking out for the majority of the country’s citizens, the US government is ruled by the interests of the rich and the powerful, they found. No great surprises there, then. But the government is not the only American power whose motivations need to be rigourously examined. Some 2,400 miles away from Washington, in Silicon Valley, Google is aggressively gaining power with little to keep it in check. It has cosied up to governments around the world so effectively that its chairman,

John Kerry, meanwhile, was marked with a “Probably not.” “Hillarycare” ended up dying in the Democratic-controlled Senate in 1994 without coming to a floor vote. But the French aristocrat and American think tanker have the measure of the federal behemoth in the age of Obama. Writing in 1835, Tocqueville eloquently predicted how it would function, while Crews today supplies in his annual compilation of federal rules and regulations, “10,000 Commandments,” the hard numbers that describe the behemoth´s contemporary reach and costs. Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
